Aktive serves a large, diverse region
that’s strategically important to the
New Zealand sport and recreation sector
as well as to Auckland’s economy.
Naturally, achieving progress towards our two primary strategic
aims - more Aucklanders more active and stakeholder
alignment & sector development - requires an orchestrated
effort across a number of key partners with whom our strategic
priorities are closely aligned.
With Aktive providing leadership and advocacy for the Auckland
sport and recreation sector, Auckland’s RSTs and other delivery
partners have built on their existing records and reputations
with their communities.

Allocation of Investment Funds
Aktive invests in partners for community sport delivery that lines
up with a number of interlinking strategies. These include the
sector’s Auckland Sport & Recreation Strategic Action Plan,
Sport New Zealand’s community sport strategy and Aktive’s
own strategic priorities. We also manage regional programmes
or services such as the Greater Auckland Coaching Unit
(GACU) and Pathway to Podium. From next year we will take
over responsibility for the Greater Auckland Aquatic Action Plan
and He Oranga Poutama.
In the 2013/14 year, Aktive invested just over $7m into
Auckland, deploying Sport New Zealand’s community sport and
KiwiSport funds, as well as grants from major funders through
five delivery partners: College Sport, Counties Manukau Sport,
Harbour Sport, Sport Auckland and Sport Waitakere.
Aktive’s investment will change in the 2014/15 year, when we
take on responsibility for the oversight and management of
Auckland Council and WaterSafety New Zealand’s contracts in
the Auckland region.
