Marie Curie is one of the most important scientists in history. Her
real name was Maria Skladowska. She was born in Warsaw,
Poland. She was born on November 7, 1867. She was a very good
student. She started working as a teacher to help her family.
In 1891, Marie went to Paris to work in a laboratory. There, she met
Pierre Curie and they got married.
Marie and Pierre discovered the element “polonium” and later,
“radium”. In 1903, Marie won the Nobel Prize in Physics with her
husband and another scientist. She was the first woman to receive
a Nobel Prize in Physics.
In 1906, Pierre died but Marie continued her scientific work. In
1911, she received another Nobel Prize in Chemistry. She was the
first person to receive two Nobel Prizes. She became a member of
the Academy of Medicine.
Marie died on July 4, 1934. Marie died of leukaemia, probably
because she worked a lot with radiation during her experiments.
She has two craters named after her, one on the Moon and one on
Mars. Marie Curie was amazing!
