Thousands of refugees and migrants
made the short but perilous voyage
from Turkey to Greece in 2015. JRS sent
a team to the Greek island of Lesbos to
assist the new arrivals, whose volume
overwhelmed existing reception facilities.
Many refugees lacked shelter, food,
and water, and had no option but to
sleep in the open.
While the large influx of refugees to
Greece is a relatively new phenomenon,
the island nation of Malta has
received refugees for two decades. JRS
Malta champions the rights of migrants
seeking refuge, provides legal advice,
organizes visits at detention centers,
provides psychological support, and
facilitates access to healthcare.
