visit to our aftersales facility in north
west London where you will see for
yourself the manufacturer-approved
facilities and meet the highly skilled
factory trained service technicians.
Our dedicated Rolls-Royce technicians
have all undertaken intensive training
programmes at the Goodwood
factory and are continuously updated
on diagnostic processes and service
procedure.
Personal aftersales service is provided
by our dedicated service advisor who
looks after both customers and their
vehicles. They are available 24-hours
a day, seven days a week on a unique
telephone number given only to
Phantom owners.

Founding Fathers
On 4th May 1904 the brilliant
northern engineer Frederick Henry
Royce met with a young aristocratic
car salesman the Honourable
Charles Stewart Rolls and agreed to
start a company. The unlikely duo
decided that Royce would design and
manufacture the cars and Rolls, with
his wealthy connections, would sell
them. The vehicles would be called
Rolls-Royce.

Since the production of the very first
vehicle, Rolls-Royce has built the
very best motor cars of their time,
becoming the classics of today. The
21st century Rolls-Royce had to be
worthy of a new century. In January
2003, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Saloon
arrived, it was a momentous occasion
in automobile history.

Phantom Saloon
The Rolls-Royce Phantom Saloon
is very much a British production.
The design was developed in London
at studios code-named ‘The Bank’
after the building’s previous function;
many of the designers and engineers
are British, and the car rolls off the
production line at the purpose-built
Goodwood facility in Sussex.

The design team set out to ensure the
Phantom is every inch a Rolls-Royce,
a long wheelbase and bonnet, short
front overhang, large wheels and a
presence which is both confident and
imposing.
The use of advanced aluminium space
frame for the body/chassis unit has
meant rigidity on a scale for a car
of the Phantom’s size and weight is
unequalled.

Powered by the mighty V12 6.75-litre
engine producing 453bhp and 531
lb ft of torque, the Phantom Saloon
takes just 5.7 seconds to reach 60mph
and will continue to an electronically
limited top speed of 149mph.
With cues taken from the past but
a truly contemporary design, the
Phantom is indeed a modern classic.
This perfectly proportioned
Rolls-Royce is perfect for the
owner and, indeed, driver of today.
A luxurious cabin is combined with
the ‘waftability’ of driving or being
driven in a true Rolls-Royce.

100EX
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited
unveiled its most recent experimental
car, the 100EX, at the Geneva Motor
Show in 2004.
A 9-litre V16, 64 valve engine throbbed
at the heart of the open-top, fourseater,
two-door drophead.
In 1919 the 1EX, based on the Silver
Ghost chassis, was the first in a long
line of EX cars which spanned almost
40 years and ended with the 45EX
in 1958. Many of the EX cars went
into full production as will a modified
version of the 100EX.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited - The Company
When the new company came into
being, a factory was needed to create
the new car. The Goodwood facility
in the 42-acre grounds of the Earl of
March’s famous Goodwood Estate,
which has its own motor racing
heritage, was ideal.
It’s hard to believe that a centre of
engineering and technical excellence
exists in such peaceful surroundings,
the factory blending effortlessly with
the natural surroundings which include
landscaped gardens and a causeway
spanning a peaceful lake.

The roof lines have been kept low
allowing the facility to blend in with
its surroundings. Part of the building
has been built below ground and
by covering the exposed roof with
sedum plants, it changes colour with
the seasons. However this is not just
aesthetic as it also acts as insulation.
Other environmentally friendly
touches can be found throughout
the site, the lakes cool the building’s
air supply, and make up part of the
facility’s drainage, whilst glass walls
provide so much natural light that
artificial lighting is kept at a minimum.

The Phantom Saloon makes several
stops on its journey through the
Goodwood factory.
The facility itself is a fascinating mix
of state-of-the-art technology and
old fashioned craftsmanship. Specialist
craftsman and women work alongside
and in harmony with some of the
world’s most sophisticated equipment.

In the wood workshop, the Phantom’s
bespoke interior begins to take on
its very own character. The finest
veneers cover 1.7 square metres
of the cars interior, this intricate
woodwork is undertaken by the 29
skilled experts who take as long as
30 days to produce all the separate
wooden elements required.

The same high levels of skill and
attention to detail are found in the
leather workshop where handpicked
hides arrive from a specialist tannery.
Many of the expert leather workers
and seamstresses were sailmakers and
saddlers before joining the company
and their craftsmanship is obvious.
We strongly recommend that our
customers experience the Goodwood
factory and all its customer facilities
for themselves, an experience that we
are more than happy to arrange.
