Jackyl BRINGS SHOW TO Boji Bay
Concert concludes inaugural Water City Concert Series
They’ve earned the moniker of
“The Hardest Working Band in
Rock ‘n’ Roll” and Jackyl will
bring their unique combination of
hard rock, Southern rock and heavy
metal to Okoboji.
The concert wraps up the summer at
Boji Bay Legacy Park at 6 p.m., Friday,
Aug. 19, and is the final show of the
Water City Concert Series sponsored
by Okoboji Harley-Davidson.
“Watching it all coming together
has been fun and with this last concert
of the summer coinciding with Boji
Bike Rally Weekend, I think the pairing
is just great,” said Tom Tourville,
the Boji Bay corporate connections
manager.
Jackyl has been rocking its way
around the world since forming in
1991 with it’s debut self-titled album
coming out a year later and being certified
platinum.
Their “hardest working band” title
came after earning a pair of Guinness
world records: one for performing 100
shows in 50 days and another for doing
21 shows in 24 hours.
Rock music has an obvious connection
with motorcycle culture and Jackyl
even more so with its connection
to the famed Full Throttle Saloon and
the Sturgis Bike Rally. The television
show tied to Full Throttle cemented
that connection and catapulted their
popularity even further. Of course,
touring with the biggest names in the
business like Aerosmith, Kiss, ZZ Top,
Ted Nugent and Damn Yankees while
performing chain saw solos at every
venue along the way didn’t hurt their
appeal either.
“Their success and popularity in the
biker community make them a perfect
fit for this weekend,” Tourville said.
“They’re the epitome of a biker band
and the finest bar-none.”
Joining Jackyl for the concert will
be the popular Okoboji favorite Head
East.
“They’ve probably played Okoboji
25 times over the past 40 years and
have easily been the most popular
national band around here,” Tourville
said. “People around here really like
them and we’re glad to have them
back.”
Head East, whose 1974 album “Flat
as a Pancake” featured the hit songs
“Never Been Any Reason” and “Love
Me Tonight” reached gold status, and
the band was inducted into the Iowa
Rock ‘n’ Roll Music Association Hall
of Fame in 2011.
Leading off the night will be local
musician Eli Dykstra who is scheduled
to play a 30 to 45-minute set
before Head East takes the stage.
“He performed outside here last year
and he’s a favorite of the folks at Harley
Davidson. We’re all happy for him.
It’s pretty cool to be on the same bill
with those guys,” Tourville said. “Add
them all together and we feel it will be
a really great show — a great way wrap
up the series and the summer.” F
