A MESSAGE FROM THE
PASTOR
“ENCOUNTER, EXPLORE, EQUIP,” CONTINUED…
This fall and throughout the school year, we connue our
theme of “Encounter, Explore, Equip.” As God encounters us
in Jesus Christ and we encounter one another, we explore
God’s Word together and are equipped by the Holy Spirit to
love and serve others.
Our “Encounter, Explore, Equip” theme shapes the focus of
our worship. In October God encounters us as we “Search for
the Truth,” looking at the essenal beliefs of the Chrisan faith
and why these beliefs maer. In December we explore together
God’s Word to us in the book of Revelaon. During Lent
(March) we also explore why our “Discipleship Maers”. And
next May we look at how we are equipped by the Holy Spirit
as we study the book of Acts.
Our “Encounter, Explore, Equip” theme also shapes our congregaonal
life. We encounter each other at Peace Fest on
September 11 and 12. Peace Fest is a celebraon of returning
to our fall schedule and programming with carnival games and
fun, a church picnic, and an open house for our church school
and confirmaon ministries. As part of our Peace Fest worship,
we will have a special 9/11 Remembrance and honor and bless
the first responders in Rogers (see arcle, below).
We are also excited about “God’s
Work, Our Hands” Sunday on October
2, where we equipped to serve and
love our neighbor through a variety of
service projects for the church and
community. (See page 6.)
Also, on Sunday, October 2, Word of Peace hosts the 2016
Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Associaon Ecumenical
Service. This is the 34 th annual statewide ecumenical service
and will be aended by law enforcement agencies from across
the state. The service will include greengs and messages by
law enforcement personnel, as well as the reading of the
names of those Law Enforcement Officers who have given
their lives in the line of duty. The church and community is
welcome to aend.
So, we have some very excing ministry to be a part of this fall
and school year. Come and “Encounter, Explore, Equip!”

The 15th Anniversary of the
September 11th Aacks
Sunday, September 11 marks the 15 th
anniversary of the terrorist aacks on our country. As part of our worship
services on September 11 and 12, we will remember this tragic
day in our worship services.
In commemoraon of this anniversary we have invited all Rogers police,
firefighters, EMTs, city administrators, and first responders to be
honored and receive a blessing (along with other emergency personnel
and public servants from our congregaon). Please join us as we honor
and bless these men and women who selflessly work to keep our community
safe.

Adult Study Opportunies Begin September 18
Beginning in September we will explore our quesons and tackle one of the most
popular yet misinterpreted pieces of literature ever wrien. Believe it or not, Revelaon
has more to do with God’s love and hope for the world than the condemna-
on and destrucon of it.

Thursday Morning Bible Study
Begins Thursday, September 29 at 10:00 AM

People of all ages and stages in faith and life are invited to gather on Thursday
mornings to explore the Bible verses that will be preached on in the upcoming Sunday
and Monday worship service. Each week we will learn about the context, history,
and meaning around these Bible verses and how they may be speaking to us
today. Aer our discussion it will be fun to hear how the pastors preach about the
Bible verses we have explored together. You need not be a Bible expert to parcipate—just
a desire to grow in faith, explore the Bible together, and have fun. Contact

Men’s Pheasant Hunt Outing
Saturday, October 1
The Life and Growth Team is planning an
oung to go pheasant hunng at Major Avenue
Hunt Club in Glencoe. We will meet at
Word of Peace for a light breakfast at 6:45
AM, and then carpool to Glencoe. We will
hunt in the morning and enjoy a catered lunch
before returning to Rogers.
Rogers MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is a program led
by moms, for moms with children 0-5 years old. Join us
for brunch, amazing speakers and fun cras. MOPS meets
twice a month beginning Wednesday, September 14 from

This year Word of Peace will parcipate in the
“God’s Work. Our Hands.” day of service on
Sunday, October 2. This is an opportunity to
celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America — one church, freed
in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.
“God’s Work. Our Hands.” Day of Service is
where we as members of the ELCA are called
to put our faith into acon by engaging in service
acvies in our neighborhood and surrounding
community. We are arranging a number
of family-friendly and ability-friendly opportunies
to serve at the church and in our
community for the day. Watch for all the details
later this month, along with the opportunity
to purchase a “God’s Work. Our Hands.”

Housing for All Bus Tour
Tuesday, September 20, 5:30-7:30PM
Join the Housing for All Bus Tour on September 20 for an
opportunity to visit workforce housing in our community
and engage in dialogue about why it is important. Housing
FOR ALL advocates for stable housing for people of moderate
and low incomes in the northwest suburbs of Hennepin
County.
The evening starts with a light supper at 5:30 PM at CROSS
Services (12915 Weinand Circle, Rogers), then the bus will
take parcipants on a tour of the Cornerstone Village workforce
housing apartment community in St Michael.

The NAMIwalks 5K takes place on Saturday,

the Naonal Alliance on Mental Illness which
works to erase the sgma of mental illness, advocate
for people and families impacted by
mental illness and educate the public about
mental illness that affects 1 in 5 Americans.

Prayer and Healing Service

Grief Support Group for Adults
We all experience grief in our lives when we lose someone
close to us, be it a spouse, child, parent, or friend.
At those mes it is oen helpful to have someone to
turn to who knows what we are experiencing. For that
reason, Word of Peace offers a Grief Support Group. The
Grief Support Group meets the second Tuesday of every
month. Anyone is able to join; come when you can and
for as long as you find it helpful. For more informaon,

Emoons Anonymous
A 12-Step Program for Those Seeking Emoonal Health
Emoons Anonymous is a twelve-step organizaon similar
to Alcoholics Anonymous. This group of people come
together in weekly meengs for the purpose of working
toward recovery from emoonal difficules. EA members
are from many walks of life and are of diverse ages,
economic statuses, and social and educaonal backgrounds.
The only requirement for membership is a desire
to become well emoonally.
Emoons Anonymous meets every Monday at 1:00 PM

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
It’s a busy, franc me of year and the Children, Youth, and Family
Ministry staff understands that. Most of us are parents; we
are all members of families. We understand the crazy expecta-
ons that school, sports, and life put on us.
We also understand the value of faith. We know that kids and
parents who have a meaningful relaonship with Christ have a
more fulfilling life. The Exemplary Youth Ministry study indicates
that young people who have been able to internalize their faith
ALL share the following characteriscs:

studies that center on what it means to be a Chrisan in
