This fall, we are reading Native: Identity,
Belonging, and Rediscovering God by
Kaitlin B. Curtice.
Native is about identity, soul-searching,
and the never-ending journey of finding
ourselves and finding God. As both a citizen
of the Potawatomi Nation and a
Christian, Kaitlin Curtice shares what it
means to experience her faith through the lens of her Indigenous
heritage and
encourages us to embrace our own origins.
Join Deacon Lydia and others as we read Curtice’s book and
explore all the different ways we can rediscover God, our own
identities, and belonging in this world.

Adult Silent Retreat at Pacem in Terris
Friday-Sunday, November 5-7
Pacem in Terris is a silent retreat center in Isanti, where guests
encounter stillness in the sanctuary of silence and solitude. Detach
from the busyness of the world for a while and become
one with nature and Christ. Guests will arrive the afternoon of
Friday, November 5 and leave the morning of Sunday, November
7. The cost is $115 and includes food and lodging.

Upcoming Sermon Series
All Things New
September 12-October 18
It is a slow thaw as life emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic.
If we can envision that God is making all things new,
we have hope for a future. With stories from the Prophets
and the Old Testament, we focus on how God takes our
mourning and turns it into dancing.
The Upside-Down Kingdom
October 24-November 15
This series contains a collection of Jesus’ teachings about
the nature of true discipleship. It is based on a life contrary
to the perspectives and priorities of the world and is more
in line with the kingdom of God. In a sense, the values of the
kingdom seek to turn the world upside down. Each day’s
reading reveals a different way that God inverts the culture
at large and requires us to live a life “upside down.”

Voices of Peace (Adult Choir Ages 14+)
Rehearsals: Wednesdays from 7:15-8 PM
This traditional choir performs a varied repertoire,
from choral classics to contemporary favorites,
generally on Sundays at 8:30 and 9:45 AM.
Angel Wings (Bell Choir)
Rehearsals: Wednesdays from 6-7:15 PM
Angel Wings is a Level 3, 7-octave bell choir that
performs monthly during worship, generally on
Sundays at 8:30 and 9:45 AM.

Alcoholics Anonymous
People share their experiences, strength and hope so that
they may help each other recover from the disease of
alcoholism.
AA meets at 7 PM on Thursdays in Room 161; enter through

Support Group
Caregivers Support Group
Are you caring for someone who is ill, living with dementia,
aging or struggling? The Caregivers Support Group is
a place where people gather to share their experiences
and get support from one another as they care for someone
in their lives. We don’t pretend to have all the answers,
but we do offer faith-based support and care for
your journey.
The Caregivers Support Group meets the 3rd Tuesday of

Grief Support Group
If you’ve experienced the death of a loved one, then you
know how painful grief can be. The Grief Support Group
provides a safe space to gather with people who know
what you are going through. Helpful, faith-based tools are
provided each month from Dr. Don Eisenhauer’s book,
Coach Yourself Through Grief.
The Grief Support Group meets the 3rd Tuesday of each

Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study
Men gather once a month to enjoy a continental breakfast
followed by meaningful explorations and discussion.
The Men’s Breakfast & Bible Study meets the 2nd Saturday

Bible Study | Fellowship
Sunday Night Men’s Group
Men of all ages meet to share faith and friendship in a relaxed
and non-intimidating atmosphere. This fall, the
group will read and discuss Half Truths: God Helps Those
Who Help Themselves and Other Things the Bible Doesn’t
Say by Adam Hamilton.
The Men’s Group meets in-person and online on the 2nd
and 4th Sundays of each month from 7-8:30 PM beginning

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers)
Mothers of young children (birth through kindergarten)

Women’s Friendship Circle
A group of women gather each week to share concerns
for themselves and others, pray, and discuss the Bible
study found in Gather magazine.

Baptisms
Baptism is a sacrament that marks the beginning of a person's journey
of faith. We want to make sure that the service is special and that
the individual being baptized in the Christian faith is helped and supported
by Word of Peace.
Baptisms are typically held during church services on the 2nd and 4th
Sunday of the month and Monday evenings. Parents of children that
will be baptized and adults who wish to be baptized are required to
attend an online baptism class prior to the baptism. The purpose of
this class is to explore the meaning of baptism, to go over the baptism
service, and to help equip you with faith formation tools. Once
you request a baptism, you will be sent a packet of information
including the link to the online baptism class. If you have already
attended a baptism class at Word of Peace or another Lutheran
congregation, you do not need to attend again.

Kids of Peace Preschool
At Kids of Peace, we foster learning and spiritual growth and partner
with each of our families to nurture your child's development. Our
wide variety of curriculum resources, quality staff and small class
sizes encourage excellence in learning. Openings for the 2021-22
school year are still available for select classes.

Celebrate Communion (grades 3-5)
Workshop: Sunday, November 14
Worship: Sunday, November 21 or Monday, November 22
All children of any age are welcome to receive Holy Communion at their parents'
discretion. Celebrate Communion is an online class and in-person workshop
designed for children in grades 3-5 and their parents to explore the deeper
meanings and historical context of the Last Supper. Upon completion, children
and their families Celebrate Communion in worship on select dates

6th-8th Grade Confirmation
Wednesdays at 5:30 & 7 PM
Word of Peace partners with parents to
provide 6th through 8th graders an
opportunity to connect their faith to their
daily lives, serve God's people, study Martin
Luther's catechism, and have fun together.
Confirmation students attend large group
learning time with music, games, skits and a
weekly lesson from the pastor. They also
meet in small groups that are led by an adult
volunteer guide. Five times a year, small
groups participate in a fellowship or servant
event.
9th Grade Confirmation
Beginning in September of their 9th grade
year, students who have completed 6th-8th
grade confirmation begin to prepare for
their affirmation of baptism through a series
of classes and other leadership experiences.
They are then confirmed in January of
their 9th grade year.
If you are new to Word of Peace and have a
9th grader who did not complete 6th-8th
grade confirmation but would like to be
confirmed, contact Megan Moen to discuss
a plan for your child.
