In Harrisburg, Pennsylvania The Women of Color Network, Inc. held its first on-ground<br />
local fundraiser titled: MY BLUE LIPS: An Evening of Art, Poetry, and Song on Friday, July<br />
15, 2016, 6pm to 9pm during Harrisburg’s July 3 rd in the ‘Burg. Third in the 'Burg is a<br />
monthly event where individuals can travel from venue to venue browsing art, listening to<br />
music, and enjoying good food and drink. MY BLUE LIPS: An Evening of Art, Poetry, and<br />
Song was held at The District Bar and Lounge, 1014 N. 3 rd Street, Harrisburg, PA. The<br />
evening, co-hosted by MaDonna Awotwi and Shaashawn Dial-Snowden (WOCN, INC<br />
consultants), included: (1) a silent auction of one of a kind donated jewelry pieces, art,<br />
and shoes, (2) specialty drinks “Blue-Tini” and “Blue Lips” and (3) live art auction. Three<br />
women of color visual artists - Mecca Eli, Taqiyya Muhammad, and Nancy Mendes each<br />
donated an original piece of art on the My Blue Lips theme. Mecca Eli’s piece was titled<br />
New Beginning, Taqiyya Muhammad’s piece was titled Womanly Waves and Nancy Mendes<br />
donated a piece titled Moonlight Becomes Her. The fourth piece was a piece from an<br />
anonymous artist titled Three Minds: Life. Death. Infinity. Maria James-Thiaw, James<br />
Baltimore, and J. Branch shared original poetic stylings and Victoria Baltimore shared a<br />
contemporary dance on the theme of domestic violence and sexual assault survivor-hood.
