Convention Operations
Harassment Policy
Geek.Kon has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy towards harassment of any kind. Staff/Security will not allow harassing
conduct from anyone on the convention premises. We are all here to have fun and harassment makes that
impossible. Don’t be that person.
Harassing conduct can take many forms and includes, but is not limited to: slurs, jokes, statements, gestures,
pictures or cartoons regarding a person’s race, color, religion, age, gender, gender identity, national origin,
disability, marital status or sexual orientation.
In particular, Sexual Harassment includes but is not limited to:
1. Unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favors or acts.
2. Unwanted touching or intimacy
3. Insulting or degrading sexual remarks or conduct.
4. Verbal abuse of a sexual nature.
5. Taking purposefully vulgar or sexual pictures of anyone without their consent.
In all cases consent is defined as an affirmative or “yes” answer to a clearly posed question or inquiry. Costumes
are not consent. Presence is not consent. Lack of “no” is not consent.
Safe Zones
Geek.Kon has several Safe Zones set up around the convention at areas with 24/7 staff
presence. If you feel you have been a victim of any kind of harassment, please inform a
Safe Zone staff member. The Safe Zones are labeled on all convention maps.
Quiet Area
Private Dining Room in back of Falling Water Cafe
The Quiet Area is located in the back corner of the Falling Water Cafe in the Marriott. It is the place to go if you
need to take a break from Geek.Kon with minimal distractions. Specifically, loud activity and other distracting
behavior is discouraged. Sound and light will be filtered. Cell phones and other electronics will be silent and
put away in the room. Napping, eating, and drinking beverages other than water are not permitted in this area.
When open, this room will function as a Safe Zone.
Information / Convention Operations
Middleton Board Room
The Geek.Kon staff room is open throughout the convention. During most hours, an information desk will be
set up to answer convention questions, but someone will always be available around the clock. The room also
hosts the Lost & Found and the volunteer department.
Volunteering
Middleton Board Room
Do you love Geek.Kon? Do you want to do your part to make it a success? DO YOU WANT A FREE T-SHIRT OR
EVEN A FREE WEEKEND BADGE? Volunteers keep the convention running. If you’re interested, stop by the staff
room or come to one of our Volunteer Orientation meetings to learn how you can help!
Ambassador Alley
Outside Michigan Room
Geek.Kon may only be one weekend a year, but that doesn’t mean the party stops! There are other
conventions happening all the time! Come to Ambassador Alley outside the Vendor Room to meet
representatives of some of these conventions and learn about the fun that can be had all year!

cosplay is to love yourself and have fun. Together, they also have a book series and each woman
Kon.Quest
Friday, 6:30PM – 11:00PM, Monona Room
Saturday, 10:00AM – 10:00PM, Monona Room
Kon.Quest is an event unique to Geek.Kon, offering something for every geek! The Quest consists of several dozen separate
“challenges” for 1-5 players, each about 10-15 minutes long. Come and go as you please (with friends or by yourself)
throughout Friday evening and Saturday. Do whichever challenges interest you most whenever they fit into your Kon
schedule! We’ll explain everything you need to know.
We have a huge variety of challenges. You might take a crack at one of our trivia sets, play our fast-paced “Fighter’s
Guild” combat game, solve some word or logic puzzles, do some silly roleplaying, set off on a photo scavenger hunt, or
challenge other players to a round of our own trading card game, Kon.Monsters!
This year, players will be tasked with defeating some of those most notorious villains from all of geek fiction! Each time
you complete a challenge, you’ll be awarded some loot cards. Some of these are powerups that can be used to give you
a boost in future challenges, but others are these villains and the heroes who can defeat them. Collect a pair (villain and
their nemesis) and turn them in to earn one point. At the end of the event on Saturday night, we’ll hold a prize drawing.
Each point gives you one chance to win!
Love Your Cosplay Body
Friday, 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Green Bay/Mil.
Brianna Lawrence, Jessica Walsh
One day, someone called Brichibi Cosplays
“Princess Whale” and told her to go off and fry
some chicken. So, she did just that, posting the
pictures on the internet and writing an article for
xoJane about being a plus-sized cosplayer. While
it’s true that nicknames like “Princess Wonderball”
or lovely requests to “stop acting white”
or to die a “lesbian bed death” have come her
way due to her race, size, sexuality, and general
geekiness, this black, lesbian, plus-sized cosplayer
has decided not to let it get to her and to keep
enjoying what cosplay is really about: having fun
and showing love to your favorite characters. But
is it really possible to ignore the hate and keep
moving forward? Yes! And this panel will address
how.
Melissa Olson, Alex Bledsoe
Vampires have existed in myths and legends
have existed for centuries. Early myths were often
steeped with superstition, fear, and curses. The
modern vampire, however, is just as often a product
of science or disease that can be rationally
explained (Blade, Daybreakers, etc.). What are
the advantages and disadvantages to writing or
reading in this version?
Sunday, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Salon F-G
Creators have more access to feedback than ever
before. From consumer reviews to professional
critiques to social media comments, there is often
more feedback than creators can sift through. So,
in an era of constant feedback, how do creators
identify feedback that is valuable and what do
you do with it once you’ve sifted through it?
closes briefly overnight for cleaning
Please be respectful of the equipment. Most of it is being borrowed
in good faith from Geek.Kon staff and attendees who would like it back in the same condition
as they left it. Losing or damaging controllers, consoles, peripherals and games would betray their
trust in us, and harm our ability to provide the best experience possible next year.
Video Game Library
Speak to one of our specially trained librarians to check out video games and peripherals for all of
your gaming needs! Most modern consoles with wireless controllers (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, PS4,
and Xbox One) as well as games for those consoles: require you to check in your badge at the command
center by the main entrance. You may check out ONE GAME and ONE CONTROLLER at most
PER BADGE.
LAN Gaming
It’s time for another Geek.Kon LAN. Come find us
in the Video Game room for some awesome PC
gaming fun. Show everyone your elite fragging
and conquering skills in one of our LAN tournaments
and win prizes for being the best. Brought
your computer? Just plug it into our network and
off you go. We’ll watch your computer for you if
you want to take break. Don’t have a computer
or didn’t bring yours? No problem! Geek.Kon has
many computers this year for you to use! Sign up
Star Wars: The Machete Order PLUS!
With the theme of Villainy this year, Geek Cinema has decided
to show the rise and fall of one of the most famous
villains in Science Fiction history: Darth Vader. To do so,
we’ve decided to show the Star Wars Saga. But we’re not
going to show it in order, that would be boring. Instead,
we’re showing Star Wars in the famous Machete Order.
4,5,2,3, then 6. And yeah, we skip one. It’s all Jar-Jar and
Pod Racing anyway. And as a special thank you, we’re
showing the latest Star Wars, The Force Awakens, following
Episode VI to close the Convention. If you’re a Star Wars
fan, you want to be there!
Here’s when we’re showing what:
Episode IV: A New Hope – Friday, 7:30 pm
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back – Friday, 9:45 pm
Iron Butt Challenge
Saturday, 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Salon B
Last year, Iron Butt Challenge had a dozen winners, and
that’s ENTIRELY too many. We at the Viewings have gone
too soft on you. So after last year, Matt and Ran had a sit
down and carefully planned this year’s outing, attempting
to maximize pain. So this year, we bring you a very special
“Iron Butt Challenge”. It starts Saturday at 1pm with the
movie Phantom of the Paradise – a cheesy ‘70s remake of
Phantom of the Opera, only in a discotheque. And it only
gets worse from there. Enjoy your pain!
