Eyespace
Optinet has become the first practice
management system (PMS) provider in the
UK to enable optical practices to successfully
submit GOS1 (General Ophthalmic Services)
claims via the NHS Scotland e-Ophthalmic
Payments System.
Eyespace’s flagship Cocoa Mint collection
has enhanced its offering with a brand new
round-eye release. Combining stylish accents
with sleek modern finishing, style CM9029
is designed to appeal to fashion-conscious
women with a taste for luxe. Available in
size 49-19-137, this modern-retro model offers
a slim, rounded silhouette with a keyhole
bridge. The frame features Italian tri-laminate
for a premium finish. Option C1 is a warm
shade of tortoiseshell complemented by a
teal interior, while C2 features a classic
tortoiseshell exterior with a subtle graduation
across the eye front that is balanced by a
lilac interior.
In developing its FLEX system upgrade,
Optinet opted for a fully PMS Integrated
Solution so it could offer practices full
integration to the e-Ophthalmic Web
Service. The system is now live and being
used to submit GOS1 forms and receive
real-time validation of GOS submissions.
“The PMS Integrated Solution provides the
best user experience for practice staff, as
there is no need to switch between the
PMS and Ophthalmic Web Form to add
additional GOS claim information,” said
Chris Smith, Optinet national sales manager
The introduction of the e-Ophthalmic
Payments System by the Practitioner
Services Division of National Services
Scotland is set to align optometry with
other primary care contractor groups:
general medical practitioners, dentists and
pharmacists. “The benefits of e-Ophthlamic
Payments to the practitioner are manifold,”
A screenshot of the e-Ophthalmic
Payments System
continued Chris, “such as better financial
control, better data quality, less paper and
more automation of reporting. Moreover, the
system all but eliminates the need for ‘Return
to Contractor’ letters and enables the use of
the Community Health Index for positive
patient identification. We are extremely
proud to be the first PMS provider in the UK
to offer our customers this important new
upgrade.” For more information about
Association of
Optometrists
Optometrist Honey Rose is due to be
sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on 25
August after being convicted of gross
negligence manslaughter in the case of
Vincent Barker. Eight-year-old Vincent
Barker died five months after being
examined by Honey Rose, a locum
optometrist, at a branch of Boots Opticians
in Ipswich, Suffolk, on February 2012. He
passed away at Ipswich Hospital from
undiagnosed hydrocephalus – symptoms of
which Ms Rose should have identified, the
court heard.
The Association of Optometrists stated:
“This is a tragic case which is devastating
for all concerned and our sympathies go to
the Barker family at this time. We are
naturally extremely disappointed for our
member, Ms Rose, in the outcome of the
case. We are aware that Ms Rose is
currently before the GOC in a Fitness to
Practise hearing and as a result we are
unable to comment further at this time.”
The General Optical Council stated:
“Following the conviction of Honey Rose
we offer our deepest sympathies to
the family of Vincent Barker. Honey Rose
remains suspended from practising
under a GOC interim suspension order.
Until our Fitness to Practise process is
complete, we are not able to comment on
the case.”
mark’ennovy
Practices can now personalise mark’ennovy’s
monthly custom-made product packaging
with the patient’s name on the box via its
new service, called ‘Individually Yours’. The
first patient who received mark’ennovy’s
bespoke boxes in Europe ordered contact
lenses from Fisheye Optometrists in
London. Practice director, Hillel Weintraub,
said: “I think that the Individually Yours
product box is a unique and clever concept.
The lenses are bespoke for each patient, so
personalising each box gives the patient a
feeling of being given preferential treatment.”
Gary Daniels, mark’ennovy sales director UK,
added: “At mark’ennovy we are committed to
adding value at every stage of the lens
journey, from the very first eye consultation
to the final fitting of a high quality, individual
contact lens made just for the patient’s eyes.
The new packaging and patient prescription
passport is designed to support the eyecare
professional in delivering that quality
experience right to the very end.” Individually
Yours is a complimentary service for
independent practices with monthly custommade
contact lenses Saphir Rx and Gentle 80.
