The collection is inspired by the
provocative photographs of artist,
Helmut Newton. His take on masculine
and feminine sex appeal inspired the
silhouettes used in this collection. Sleek
black satin, transparent fringe and
handcrafted appliqués were created
from inspirational images taken from his
iconic book, “Sex and Landscapes”.
Also for this season, actress Bianca
Jagger served as a muse with her
elegant but bold and chic style.

The starting point for the 2016 Pre-Fall collection was Americana,
and looking at different ways of interpreting/reinterpreting it. The
effect of being in a new country, affected by this melting pot
of novelties, people and things, and the ways in which they all
come together. I started looking at these disparate things that
were very American—Hollywood images, movie stars,
Native American patchwork quilts—and putting them
together, in a proverbial patchwork, moving through
the process refining and reinterpreting them.

I was inspired by the Battle of
Versailles Fashion Show in the
1970s which pitted French
designers against American ones.
The American designers including
Oscar de la Renta were more
minimal and modern in feel
than the French.
I really loved the
juxtaposition of the
minimal looks against
the rich and elaborate
backdrop of Versailles.
That combined with the
Jeff Koons exhibition
that has also been
on display in the
palace inspired me
to create a collection
of clean, modern
silhouettes while also
experimenting with
motifs such as toile de
jouy.

Inspiration comes from all
over. Sometimes it’s from a
color, picture, era or artist and
this stands true for her FW16
collection. It incorporates
evening and sportswear
using an assortment of
textured fabrics to create
relaxed wearable pieces,
which embrace structure
and dimension. The use
of eccentric sequins,
dry silks, pleather, and
elemental patterns
elevate silhouettes,
while light wools
and classic cottons
provide a utilitarian
feel. A variety of artists’
works and materials
were conceptually
reinterpreted using
mosaic technique and
a mixture of organic
shapes.

Inspired by David Bowie’s transition
of genres from folk to electronic,
I envisioned a collection that
evolves as it’s showcased: from
settle asymmetries to couture
patchwork techniques, the
collection perseveres in its fluidity
without forgoing a newly-found
edge. There is a new approach
to the silhouette, one that reveals
evolution of softness and sense of
grandeur, but also speaks to
the refinement that defines
modern craftsmanship.
