Wembley, where we have spent
all summer planning an amazing
Freshers’ programme for our new
incoming students.
When you arrive in September, you
can expect your UCFB journey to
begin with a bang. With 12 massive
events in just 8 days, there is
something for everyone!

From club nights to live music,
beer festivals to music festivals, we
bring to you an action packed week
of diverse and dynamic events,
designed to help you meet new
friends, familiarise yourself with your
new home, and most importantly -
have an amazing week to remember!
We’ve created partnerships with
some of the biggest and best events
organisations to make this possible,
including the world-famous Comedy
Central brand, and Late Night
London Students, a division of
Novus Leisure; the UK’s largest
nightclub operator with nearly 80
venues in London alone, such as
the iconic Tiger Tiger and Piccadilly
Institute.
The week culminates in a brand new
event for 2016, Freshers’ Festival,
something we are very proud to
establish here at UCFB.
You’ll have the chance to explore
some of the faciltiies we use such as
Silver Jubilee Park, the SSE Arena
and of course, Wembley Stadium.

get out what you put in - these could be the best years of your life!
What is the Students’ Union?
UCFB Students’ Union is a members
club which represents the needs of
the students at UCFB. We organise
everything from student groups to
events, in order to make your UCFB
experience the best that it can be.
What kinds of events do the SU
host?
We aim to cater for everyone at
UCFB, and run a diverse calendar of
events throughout the calendar year
for you to attend.
Our events are always given a
colour banding to make it easier for
students to identify how much things
cost. Black band events usually cost
anywhere between £5 and £10 per
ticket, and ticket prices for gold
band events really vary dependant
on the event!
Examples of black band events
include club nights, celebrity DJs,
Comedy Central Live, socials and
fancy dress parties and live music.
Examples of gold band events we
have offered include a trip to Ladies
Day at Cheltenham Festival, Thorpe
Park Fright Nights, the Summer Ball
and a trip to Amsterdam.
As well as our in-house black and
gold band events, we work with
numerous external parters to get our
students the best possible access to
some of the hottest events in London
at discount rates, everything from
the biggest clubs in central London
to tickets to live sports fixtures.
What Volunteering/Fundraising
Opportunities are there?
We run numerous campaigns and
fundraising events throughout
the year, such as our Food Bank
collection every Christmas, and the
UCFB Sleepout, where students raid
the attic for their sleeping bags and
set-up for the night outside Wembley
Park tube station to raise money and
awareness on homeless issues.
We also have partnerships with
community groups and specialist
sports charities who have
opportunties for volunteering. If there
is an issue or cause close to your
heart, let us know and we can help
you to run events and campaigns in
support.
What student groups can I get
involved with?
Student groups are a massive part
of student life. Finding like-minded
students who share the same
interests as you will lead to some of
your strongest friendships, and we
actively encourage all students to get
involved in our Student Involvment
Programme.
We already have a number of
societies which have been formed
by our students that you can get
involved in, but the key thing to
remember is that all our societies
start with you. If you have a keen
interest in something and there
isn’t a society for it, you can start
your own! We will provide you with
support, and help to fund society
activities when possible.
What about sports?
UCFB Athletic Union looks after all
of our sporting provision at UCFB.
Part of the Students’ Union, the
Athletic Union is comprised of
all of our sporting clubs, at both
representational and recreational
levels.
We have numerous representational
teams for both male and female
students in our football teams,
coached by qualified professionals
(including some from our partners
at Fulham FC and the Chelsea
Community Foundation), which play
in the regional British University and
Colleges Sports (BUCS) Leagues,
as well as in the London Univeristy
Sports Leagues (LUSL).
Places in our elite representational
teams are awarded via a trials
process, which all of our students
are welcome to participate in. We
also have the Intramural Sports
(IMS) programme, where you and
your friends can form a football team
to compete in the IMS League.
And if football isn’t your thing, we
also have a Snowsports Club, which
enjoyed a trip to the Alps earlier
this year, and a Darts club which
competes in the local darts league.
As with societies, if you have a
passion for a sport and we don’t
field a team, we actively encourage
all of our students to form one!
How can I join?
All students at UCFB are eligible for
membership, and we have some
fantastic packages to help you get
the most out of your time at UCFB,
and save some money!
The Black Card
This is our way of saving you money.
Purchase a Black Card and you
don’t pay for any of our black band
events for the whole year. Yes, you
don’t need to go back and re-read
that. Buy a Black Card and you’ll get
VIP access to all of our black band
events are completely free, saving
you money all year round!
And as if that wasn’t incentive
enough, black card holders receive
exclusive discounts for our Gold
band events as well, saving you even
more money! We limit the number
of Black cards sold (so that we can
guarantee entry to events), so make
sure you get yours early!

It’s full of exciting stuff, from the
cosmopolitan bars and clubs in
Soho to the street food markets of
the Camden Lock, there is always
something to see and do.
Tube Hunt is the perfect way to
familiarise yourself with our vibrant
capital and have a laugh with your
new found friends. A series of
challenges will see you take to the
tube and train as you aim to track
down the clues and cross the finish
line rst, to win a fantastic prize!
There will be selfies and showdowns
along the way, plus you’ll get to take

watch as Fulham FC continue their
campaign for promotion back into
the Premier League.
After 13 seasons in the dazzling
lights of the Premier League,
The Lilywhites were resigned to
Championship Football after losing
a relegation battle in 2014. It’s been
two long seasons since the drop, but
Fulham maintain a good chance of
promotion at the end of the season.

taken the Football League by storm.
A non-league club for over 50 years,
their first taste of the Football
League did not arrive until 2009.
Back to back promotions in 2014/15

The stadium has just seen £300,000
of investment, with a brand new 3G
pitch, new clubhouse facilities and
several new stands erected, bringing
the total capacity to 2,000.

comedy, UCFBSU Wembley is
proud to announce the arrival of
the world-famous Comedy Central
brand to our campus.
Comedy Central Live! will showcase
the biggest and best names of
the UK comedy circuit, including
famous faces and award-winning

Edinburgh Fringe.

You’ve probably seen TV funnyman
Russell Kane’s work before.
He’s one of comedy’s hottest
properties right now, and we’re
super excited to be having him for
Freshers’ 2016.
A winner of the main prize at the
Edinburgh fringe in 2010, his massive
success has seen him earn hundreds
of TV credits, from his escapades
with Greg James, “Staying In” and
“Unzipped” to BBC3’s live at the

against your new UCFB peers.

Lloyd is the star of FIFA: Quest for
the Best (Sky Sports) and you may
have also seen him on Soccer AM
(Sky 1), Sweat The Small Stuff
(BBC3), as well as supporting Rob
Beckett on his UK tour.
Lloyd also co-hosted the Facebook
Football Awards with Sam Matterface
which streamed live to over 3 million
people, and he is mates with Lionel
Messi.
Lloyd is a huge football fan and has
written, produced and starred in a
number of viral football videos. The
most recent one for FIFA 16 (EA
Sports) has been viewed over 2
million times. He’s also been a guest
on Spencer FC’s online panel show
‘Bench Warmers’, including playing
FIFA with Deli Alli & Cesc Fabregas.

September marks the start of
Oktoberfest, the world’s biggest
celebration of Bavarian music,
food and beer. Whilst the main
celebrations take place in Munich,
we wanted to bring a taste of
festivities to Wembley for our
Freshers Week.
You can expect great beer, great
banter and plenty of German food
and drink at this massively popular
event, which was a highlight of
UCFB Burnley’s Freshers 2015.

Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch hosted
by Tim Lovejoy), to provide the
evening’s entertainment.

Bon Jovi to the Game of Thrones
theme tune, this is a highlight of the

It’s all been leading to this, the
Freshers event which everyone
has been talking out - Freshers
Festival. A new major outdoor
event for 2016, we are very excited
to announce the line- up below!
With unprecedented views, Freshers
festival will take place in the shadow
of Wembley Stadium.
DJ FRESH will be headlining the
event with an eclectic set featuring
top tracks including “Golddust”,
“Hot Right Now”, “Louder”, “The
Power” and “Gravity”.
He is supported by Channel 4’s
comedy trio THE MIDNIGHT
“the biggest event of
freshers’, this is not one
to be missed!”
BEAST. Dubbed Britain’s answer
to The Lonely Island, they will be
bringing a dynamic set of outlandish
comedy to the stage.
Our silent disco will be running all
day long, with two-channels for
the best music battles including
90sv00s, Rock v Pop and USA v UK.
We’ll also be running a load of offthe-wall
entertainment, ranging from
Yoga to a Poetry Slam.
There will also be music from the
likes of DUKE (X FACTOR) and
singer-songwriter ELDEN (KOKO).
Rain or shine, there’s no need to
fear as we host our mainstage in
the brand new Nebula big-top, and
have hosted all the activities under a
variety of marquees and tents.

number 1 singles, and a further
eight top 10 singles to his name,
DJ FRESH is one of the top Djs
and producers that the UK has
ever seen.
You only need to look at the roster
of guest appearance on his tracks
to see the scale of his work. He’s
worked with Dizzee Rascal, Rita Ora,
Ella Eyre, and Diplo (just to name a
few!)
He has performed on some of the
world’s biggest stages at some of
the world’s biggest events, so as
you can imagine we are very excited
to be welcoming him to headline
Freshers’ Festival in a set full of
massive hits including number ones
“Louder” and “Hot Right Now”.
Duke are one of the biggest
talents on the UK beatbox scene,
and have been for many years.
Three men, three mics, one guitar
and the occasional kazoo, Duke
have the special skill of being able
to ignite a party from the moment
they hit the stage.
They’re a well-known name on the
circuit, and can count artists such as
Jessie J, Example, Beverley Knight,
Fleur East, Shy FX, Ms Dynamite
and the late Amy Winehouse in their
list of collaborators.
You may also have spotted them on
the X Factor back in 2012, where
they made it as far as the judges
houses.
Having graced stages at Reading,
Leeds, Boardmasters, Lovebox,
Parklife and even the o2 Arena,
we can’t wait for them to hit the
Freshers’ Festival mainstage!
the midnight beast
elden
The Midnight Beast first found
fame back in 2009 with their hit
cover of Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok”, which
found its way to the top of global
charts and a place in YouTube
history.
Since then, they’ve found further
success with more original and
parody songs online, and their debut
album reached number 5 in the
iTunes charts.
Things only got better for the boys,
who landed their own TV show on
Channel 4, and a book deal as well.
A firm favourite across the University
circuit here in the UK, you can expect
lots of ridiculous onstage banter plus
renditions of their hits such as “Let’s
be Friends” and “I Kicked a Shark in
the Face”.
James Elden (simply known as
Elden to his friends, which we are)
has been a DJ for what seems like
forever.
Famous for his varied style of oldschool
cheese-pop and “classic
bangers”, Elden has supported
some of the biggest names in the DJ
world, and found further achievement
curating his own shows, the highly
successful “Blue Rinse” club series,
(Oxford, London) and “House Party”.
Earlier this year he was booked for
the mainstage at London’s world
famous music venue KOKO.
Be prepared for shout-out anthems
and classics in his set on the
mainstage, which will kick-start the
day’s performances.

After the excitement of Freshers’
Festival, we expect most of you
will still be in bed, but for those
that aren’t we’re hosting a film
screening, and we’re throwing in
some popcorn too!
It’s lazy Sunday time, so chill-out,
relax and kick your shoes off for a
few hours. We will give you all the
vote for which movie you want to
watch via Twitter poll throughout
Freshers’ Week, and the winning film
will be screened on the big screen.

For the third year running, UCFB
Athletic Union is proud to present
the annual Freshers’ 5-a-side
tournament.
Hosted at Lucozade Powerlague
Wembley, in the shadow of the
famous Wembley arch, this annual
event has become a highlight of the
Freshers’ programme.
During Freshers’ pull together a team
of your new friends and register for
the tournament during Freshers’
Fair at the SSE Arena on Friday,
16th September. Team sheets
will be available in your Freshers’
wristband packs when you arrive,
and throughout the week.
Competitions:
Male students: 5-a-side (Maximum
of 7 players per team, with subs).
Female students: 7-a-side (maximum
9 players per team with subs).

After several hugely popular trial
events last year, we are massively
excited to invite back the team
from Football Beyond Borders for
another edition of “It’s Kicking
Off”, the football-knowledge quiz.
Football Beyond Borders are a
London-based charity who help
disadvantaged children come
together through football. Their
patrons are Guillem Balagué
(Sky Sports, La Liga) and Santi
Carzola, and FBB have worked
with some high-profile players
and organisations in their work.
They’re always on the lookout for
enthusiastic students at UCFB for
work opportunities, and will also be
at Freshers’ Fair, so make sure you
pop over to the team to say hello!
“It’s Kicking Off” is for the football
fan in us all, with trivia, pot luck and
brainteasers which will have you
all racking your minds, like “Which

When will I recieve my Freshers’
wristband?
There will be several opportunities
to collect your Freshers’ wristband
when you join UCFB. We will be in
the foyer at Victoria Halls on Sunday
11th, and also have a wristband
exchange at our Freshbook event on
Sunday 11th, and also at enrolment
on Tuesday 13th.
Can I buy a wristband when i arrive
at UCFB?
If any are still available, we will be
selling them at all of the above
locations. However, we de nately
recommend you buy online as this
is a hugely popular week of events
at UCFB, and there are limited
wristband packages available, so we
cannot guarantee that any will be left
by this time.
Can I reserve a wristband in
advance, and pay for it when I get
there?
Unfortunately not. Wristbands are
sold on a first-come, first-serve
basis. If you want to purchase a
wristband but are unable to pay
online, please email t.badger@ucfb.
com.
Are there individual event tickets?
In order to provide the best valuefor-money,
we can only confirm that
wristband options will be available.
Because we use various venues for
our Freshers’ events, some may have
a higher capacity than others, and
we may be able to offer individual
tickets at a later date, although this
is not guaranteed.
Can I buy a wristband for a friend?
Freshers wristbands are limited to one
package per student. Unfortunately,
we do not offer wristband packages
to non-UCFB students. You will be
required to show proof of ID when
claiming your wristband.
