Did you know that if your vehicle<br />
is written off as a total loss<br />
through an accident, fire, theft,<br />
or adverse weather conditions,<br />
most motor insurance companies<br />
would only pay out the current<br />
market value of your vehicle, and<br />

For example, if a vehicle costing £15,000<br />
was written off after 12 months, most<br />
motor insurance companies would pay<br />
out the current market value, which might<br />
only be £13,500. In this example a loss of<br />
£1,500 would be suffered<br />
If you wanted to replace your vehicle with<br />
one worth the same as the original purchase<br />
price, you would have to find the difference.<br />
Or, if you had taken out finance to spread<br />
the cost of paying for your vehicle, then you<br />
could find that the amount received from<br />
your motor insurance company was less<br />
than the amount that you still owed on<br />
your finance agreement.<br />
In either event, you could be out of pocket.<br />

‘The information contained below is an extract from the policy wording issued by<br />
AutoTrust. It forms a summary of the benefits, exclusions and limitations of the policy,<br />
for full details, please read the policy wording and your policy schedule.<br />
What does the policy cover?<br />
Following the Total Loss of Your Vehicle<br />
during the Period of Insurance, We will pay<br />
the difference, up to the Sum Insured:<br />
• Between the Insured Value and the<br />
Purchase Price of Your Vehicle as<br />
confirmed in the net sales invoice.<br />
If the Finance Early Settlement Amount is<br />
greater than the Purchase Price of Your<br />
Vehicle, We will pay the difference, up to<br />
the Sum Insured:<br />
• Between the Insured Value and the<br />
Finance Early Settlement Amount.<br />
The benefit will be paid to the Finance<br />
Company and We will pay any excess<br />
over the Finance Early Settlement<br />
Amount to You. If the added premium<br />
has been paid to cover Negative Equity<br />
from Your previous vehicle, this will<br />
paid in addition.<br />
If You have a Lease Agreement, We will pay<br />
the difference, up to the Sum Insured:<br />
• Between the Insured Value and the<br />
Lease Early Termination Charge to<br />
the Lease Company.<br />
There is no limit to the maximum benefit<br />
payable where Your Vehicle Purchase Price<br />
is up to £75,000.<br />
This will be subject to the terms<br />
and conditions provided in your<br />
policy document.<br />
Who is the Insurer?<br />

Helpful definitions:<br />
We, Us, Our:<br />
Motors Insurance Company Limited.<br />
Insured Value:<br />
The value of Your Vehicle excluding any<br />
contents:<br />
• As assessed by the Motor Insurer of the<br />
Motor Insurance Policy on Your Vehicle<br />
at the date of the Total Loss; or<br />
• As assessed by the motor insurer of a<br />
third party against which You have a<br />
claim via an Accident Management<br />
Company, at the date of the Total Loss.<br />
Finance Early Settlement Amount:<br />
The amount required to settle the credit<br />
or hire purchase agreement at the date of<br />
Total Loss excluding any amount carried<br />
over from a previous Finance Agreement,<br />
any insurance premiums, additional<br />
interest charges, discounts, incentives<br />
and cashbacks, arrears, road fund licence<br />
fee, title discharge fees and any other<br />
financed amount not relating specifically<br />
to Your Vehicle.<br />
Lease Early Termination Charge:<br />
The net balance required by the Lease<br />
Company at the date of the Total Loss to<br />
settle the indebtedness under the Lease<br />
Agreement, excluding any arrears, all<br />
maintenance, road fund licence fee,<br />
insurance premiums, recoverable VAT,<br />
excess mileage charges, excess wear and<br />
tear charges and any uncollected Premium<br />
due under this policy.<br />
Who can apply?<br />
Auto Trust Asset Protection cover is<br />
available if:<br />

• You are the registered keeper of the<br />
vehicle;<br />
• You hold a valid full UK driving licence;<br />
• You hold a valid policy providing<br />
comprehensive motor insurance for<br />
the vehicle.<br />
• You are resident in the United Kingdom<br />
for the period of insurance of this policy.<br />
Eligibility:<br />
The vehicle is eligible for cover if at<br />
the start of the policy:<br />
• The vehicle is less than 10 years old;<br />
• The vehicle has fewer than 100,000 miles<br />
on the odometer;<br />
• It is shown in Glass’s Guide;<br />
• The vehicle is registered within 100 days<br />
from the original purchase date;<br />
• The vehicle is not to be used for<br />
racing, pace making, speed testing,<br />
reliability trials or any off-road event;<br />
• The vehicle is not to be used for<br />
hire or reward, short-term self-drive<br />
or driving tuition in connection<br />
with your occupation;<br />
• The vehicle is not a commercial<br />
vehicle of more than 3,500kg<br />
gross weight, motorhome, kit-car,<br />
invalid carriage, a grey or parallel import<br />
or a vehicle not built for sale in the<br />
United Kingdom.<br />
Significant Exclusions<br />
The policy will not cover:<br />
• Your Vehicle if You have not claimed<br />
under the Motor Insurance Policy or<br />
from a third party through an Accident<br />
Management Company or Your claim<br />
has not been settled as a Total Loss<br />
• Your Vehicle if it is Insured on any type<br />
of motor trade insurance policy.<br />
• Your Vehicle if it is not shown<br />
in Glass’s Guide.<br />
• Your Vehicle if it has been modified other<br />
than in accordance with Your Vehicle<br />
manufacturer’s specification. In this<br />
instance, cover will not be provided if We<br />
determine that the Total Loss occurred as<br />
a result of this modification.<br />
• Your Vehicle if it is a scooter, motorcycle,<br />
touring caravan, non-United Kingdom<br />
specification Vehicle or not built for<br />
principal sale in the United Kingdom or<br />
classed as a Grey Import, kit car, bus,<br />
coach, commercial Vehicle more than 3.5<br />
tonnes, truck or a heavy goods Vehicle.<br />
• Your Vehicle if it is manufactured in the<br />
United States of America and is not a<br />
right hand drive.<br />
• Your Vehicle if it is manufactured in the<br />
United States of America and has been<br />
imported directly from that country and<br />
has not been purchased as new from an<br />
authorised United Kingdom distributor.<br />
• Your Vehicle if it is used as an emergency<br />
or military vehicle, courier or delivery<br />
vehicle, invalid carrier, for driving school<br />
tuition, for any hire or reward or as a taxi.<br />
• Your Vehicle if it is used for track days,<br />

• You, if You are under 18 years of age at<br />
the Start Date of this policy, if You are a<br />
private individual or a sole trader.<br />
• A Total Loss where the Total Loss<br />
occurred before the inception of<br />
this insurance.<br />
• A Total Loss occurring outside the<br />
Territorial Limits<br />
• A Total Loss caused by someone who<br />
does not hold a valid driving licence or is<br />
in breach of the conditions of their driving<br />
licence, for whom You gave consent to<br />
drive Your Vehicle.<br />
• Any Negative Equity unless you have<br />
opted to pay the extra Premium to cover<br />
You for the amount shown on Your<br />
Schedule.<br />
• The policy is non-renewable.<br />

Cancelling Your Cover:<br />
We hope that you will be happy with<br />
your insurance policy, however if it does not<br />
meet Your needs, You have 30 days from<br />
the date You received Your policy<br />
documents to cancel the policy and<br />
obtain a full refund.<br />
To cancel Your policy within this 30-day<br />
period please contact the Introducer who<br />
sold You Your policy.<br />
If You wish to cancel Your policy after<br />
this 30-day period, You can cancel at any<br />
time and receive a pro rata refund.<br />

Policy Exclusions<br />
You will not be covered for Minor<br />
Cosmetic Damage:<br />
• that cannot be defined as a Light Scratch,<br />

or any Minor Cosmetic Damage where<br />
a Cosmetic Repair is not<br />
technically possible;<br />
• reported to the Administrator more<br />
than 30 days after the Incident;<br />
• to horizontal flat surfaces, roofs, bonnets<br />
and boot tops where the Repairer deems<br />
it not possible to achieve a satisfactory<br />
finish using Cosmetic Repair or<br />

Policy Exclusions<br />
This insurance will not cover the following:<br />
• Wear and Tear, including any unevenly<br />
worn Tyres caused by defective steering<br />
geometry outside manufacturer’s<br />
recommended limits, or wheel balance;<br />
failure of a suspension component or<br />
shock absorber or which in the opinion of<br />
a qualified engineer was caused wholly or<br />
partly from a lack of maintenance e.g.<br />
incorrect Tyre pressure;<br />
• Tyres fitted to Vehicles which have been<br />
modified in any way from the<br />
manufacturer’s specification;<br />
• Any Damage caused by fire, any road<br />
traffic accident, or where the Vehicle<br />
is a total loss;<br />
• Any malicious damage claim, which is not<br />
accompanied by a valid and substantiated<br />
crime reference number;<br />
• Theft of the Tyre(s);<br />
• Any claim where at the time of Damage<br />
the Tyre tread depth is less than 2mm<br />
across the full tread area of the Tyre.<br />
