Calf moose appear to have a<br />

small nose and a ‘short face’.<br />

Seldom alone<br />

Calf moose are seldom alone.<br />

Body proportions<br />

Calf moose appear to have more leg than<br />

body and their hind quarters appear slender.<br />

Shoulder height<br />

Shoulder height of cow moose is six feet<br />

(2m) and of calf moose is four feet (1.3m).<br />

Regulations<br />

• Bow hunting begins August 27, 2016 for areas opening on September 10, 2016.<br />

• Bow hunting begins September 17, 2016 for areas opening on October 1, 2016.<br />

ADVISORIES<br />

• Quotas for some Moose Management Areas (MMAs) may change pending aerial census work being carried out during<br />

the winter of 2016. Changes will be announced through a Departmental News Release prior to the big game licence<br />

draw. News releases are available online at www.releases.gov.nl.<br />

• Over 75 percent of meat spoilage cases that are reported occur as a result of improper handling or field care by the<br />

hunter. A replacement licence will only be issued if an animal is found to be unfit for consumption because of disease or<br />

previous injury and the entire carcass has been submitted for disposal.<br />
