The Rec Dep. Welcomes a New Face
Get to Know Me
[Dr. Heewon Yang & wife Yundunk]
Let’s give a warm welcome to Dr. Heewon
Yang as he joins the Recreation Department as
a full- time tenured Professor and Interim
Chair. Before coming to CSULB Heewon
worked at Southern Illinois University
Carbondale as professor for 12 years. Along
with being a full-time professor he served as
the Department chair for the Department of
Health Education and Recreation. Heewon
received his bachelor’s degree in Forest
Resources at Korea University and went on to
obtain his Masters in Leisure, Tourism, and
Hospitality (with an emphasis in Therapeutic
Recreation) from the University of Tennessee,
Knoxville. Heewon did not stop there because
he then got his Doctorate in Leisure Behavior
(with a major in Therapeutic Recreation) from
Indiana University.
Along with a successful career Heewon has a
lovely wife (Yunduk) and three children
(Daniel, Joyce, and Nathan). In his leisure time
Heewon enjoys swimming, playing tennis,
jogging, and tasting new foods. Lastly,
Heewon will be more than happy to take time
to meet and talk with students during lunch or
take a stroll around campus. If you wish to set
up an appointment email him at
(heewon.yang@csulb.edu).
