However, at the Quatela Center we do not view plastic surgery as an easy fix or isolated experience. Patients are encouraged to be actively involved in the entire process, and it’s mutually understood that choosing to have cosmetic treatments or surgery is a big decision for most. Since this decision should not be taken lightly, Drs. Koenig and Quatela ensure that patients are making the choice for themselves and are committed to that choice. Assessing if a patient is ready for cosmetic treatments has a lot to do with the patient’s motivation. Have they thought about this for a long time? Are they motivated by their own thoughts and feelings or what society or someone else says about how they should look? 10
Are they realistic about what they see in the mirror? The more specific a patient is about their concerns and what they want to change also helps to build a partnership between themselves and their doctor. What are the benefits of this holistic view? Better surgical outcomes The more involved that patients are with their surgical process, the better the surgical outcome. This is because they are committed to making a change, not just having a procedure done. Patients who are committed follow pre- and post-operative instructions more closely and ask questions, all which contribute to a better outcome. Higher satisfaction with results Patients are more satisfied with their results because they’ve done everything they can to ensure a successful procedure and outcome afterwards. When this is something that a patient has truly thought about and has done for themselves, they are happier when the desired result is achieved. Longer-lasting results The life of their results is prolonged by committing to healthy habits to take care of their skin and body moving forward. While none of us can stop the biological clock from ticking, we can take care of ourselves to prolong the aging process. A life-long commitment to healthy habits will keep results fresh and youthful. This holistic outlook results in satisfied patients who are invested in making the most out of their lives as a whole. In this way, plastic surgery is a lifelong commitment when partnered with efforts to improve the quality of one’s life. For example, in addition to what Dr. Koenig recommends surgically to a patient, he also encourages them to: 1) Have healthy habits 2) Improve their diet 3) Exercise regularly 4) Have good balance in their lives overall Committed to what’s best for each patient, whether that means surgery or not, the doctors and staff at the Quatela Center feel that it’s a privilege to be part of this process with their patients. 11
