Does nicotine cause cancer?
• There is no evidence that nicotine is carcinogenic.
• There is little doubt that smoking causes cancer,
however nicotine is not the culprit.
• It is the products of combustion which cause
cancer in smokers and these are either absent in e-
cigarette aerosol, or present in amounts below
levels which are known to cause harm to humans.
• The nicotine in e-cigarette solutions (‘e-liquids’)
is the same nicotine that is used in nicotine
replacement products, such as patches and gums,
which are which are widely used and prescribed.
