Local artists showcasing<br />
their original work in Moraine<br />
Valley Community<br />
College’s Gallery 2016 Juried<br />
Community Art Exhibition<br />
were presented with<br />
awards at a reception in the<br />
college’s Robert F. DeCaprio<br />
Art Gallery in June. Awards<br />
were given for first, second<br />
and third place, as well as<br />
three honorable mentions.<br />
The winners were chosen<br />
from 32 artists who entered<br />
work into the exhibition.<br />
First place was awarded to<br />
Robert Johnson, of Palos<br />
Heights, for his acrylic<br />
“Beach Figures.” He received<br />
$200. The secondplace<br />
award of $125 went to<br />
Annette Plettau, of Orland<br />
Park, for her collage/mixed<br />
media “Natural Arch, St. Lucia.”<br />
Margi Hafer, of Frankfort,<br />
won a $100 third-place<br />
prize for her watercolor<br />
“Stuck in Traffic 1.”<br />
Honorable mentions were<br />
awarded to Pam Eberlin, of<br />
Chicago Heights, for her<br />
found object work “Pollyanna<br />
Dixie Dairy Dash;”<br />
Mary Anne O’Neill, of Orland<br />
Park, for her watercolor<br />
“Trying to find the sun;” and<br />
Mary Ann Trzyna, of Frankfort,<br />
for her pastel “Green<br />
and Orange.” They each received<br />
$40.<br />
Augustana College<br />
Orland Park students named<br />
to dean’s list<br />
Augustana College recently<br />
announced 913 students<br />
were named to the<br />
dean’s list for the 2016<br />
spring term. Students who<br />
have earned this academic<br />
honor have maintained a<br />
grade point average of 3.5<br />
or higher on a four-point<br />
scale for courses taken during<br />
the term.<br />

Saint Xavier University<br />
recently announced the<br />
dean’s list of students for<br />
the spring 2016 semester.<br />
The dean’s list recognizes<br />
full-time students who have<br />
completed a minimum of<br />
15 credit hours at SXU and<br />
have maintained a minimum<br />
cumulative grade point average<br />
of 3.75 out of 4.0. Students<br />
must be enrolled for a<br />
minimum of 12 credit hours<br />
during the given semester<br />
and have earned a minimum<br />
cumulative grade point average<br />
of 3.75.<br />

University of Iowa<br />
Orland Parker makes<br />
president’s list<br />
Nora Bush, a University<br />
of Iowa student from Orland<br />
Park, was named to the university’s<br />
president’s list for<br />
the spring 2016 semester.<br />
The president’s list was<br />
established in the fall of<br />
1983 to recognize academic<br />
excellence. In order to be included<br />
on the list, a student<br />
must have a minimum 4.0<br />
grade point average in all academic<br />
subjects for the preceding<br />
two semesters, with a<br />
total of at least 12 semester<br />
hours of credit per semester<br />
during that period.<br />
Approximately 400 students<br />
were named to the<br />
president’s list for the spring<br />
2016 semester.<br />
University of Missouri<br />
Sandburg Alumna receives<br />
nursing scholarship<br />
Jane Lee, of Orland Park,<br />
recently received the “Fund<br />
the Drive for Nurses” Scholarship<br />
at the University of<br />
Missouri.<br />
The scholarship, which<br />
is funded through the MU<br />
Sinclair School of Nursing’s<br />
annual charity golf tournament,<br />
is awarded to students<br />
enrolled at the nursing<br />
school.<br />
Lee, a 2014 graduate of<br />
Sandburg High School, is<br />
the daughter of Brian Lee.<br />
She also was on the dean’s<br />
list for the spring 2016 semester.<br />
