The D’Youville School of <strong>Pharmacy</strong> is mission driven: It is<br />

FACiLiTiEs<br />

On May 12, 2010, D’Youville <strong>College</strong> dedicated its newest<br />

building, the D’Youville Academic Center. A project<br />

that began in 2008, the $23 million, 90,000 squarefoot,<br />

6-story academic building houses enrollment<br />

management, a technology center and the new D’Youville<br />

<strong>College</strong> School of <strong>Pharmacy</strong>.<br />

The architectural firm Cannon Design, which recently<br />

completed work on a building for the University of<br />

Toronto School of <strong>Pharmacy</strong>, has designed a building that<br />

is both aesthetically pleasing, and responsive to the social<br />

and academic needs of both students and faculty.<br />

York); enabling all eligible doctor of pharmacy students<br />

The D’Youville <strong>College</strong> School of <strong>Pharmacy</strong> was awarded<br />

candidate status from the Accreditation Council for<br />

<strong>Pharmacy</strong> Education (ACPE) at its June 22-24, 2011<br />

board of directors meeting. Graduates of a class<br />

designated as having candidate status have the same<br />

rights and privileges of those graduates from a fully<br />

accredited program, generally including eligibility for<br />

pRE-pROFEssiONAL REquiREMENTs<br />

Admission to the four-year doctor of pharmacy degree program requires<br />

completion of a minimum of 65 credits hours of pre-professional education<br />

at an accredited college or university. The minimum pre-pharmacy course<br />

requirements are summarized below.<br />

OThER CLARiFYiNG iNFORMATiON:<br />

1. All required science courses (biology, microbiology, anatomy and<br />

physiology, and chemistry) require a laboratory component.<br />

2. If general biology is not offered at your school, you may take botany or<br />

zoology and cell biology to satisfy the general biology requirement.<br />

3. All pre-professional science courses must be obtained from an accredited<br />

institution for a letter grade; Pass/Fail, online, distance learning, CLEP and<br />

advanced placement courses are not accepted.<br />

4. All pre-requisite coursework must be completed with a grade of “C”<br />

(2.0/4.0) or better.<br />

5. Science and math courses should be current, completed no more than<br />

five years prior to enrollment.<br />

6. All pre-requisite math and science courses must be equivalent in scope<br />

and rigor to those required for math, chemistry and biology majors at<br />

D’Youville <strong>College</strong>.<br />

7. All students are expected to be proficient in the implementation of<br />

computer operating systems, software applications for word processing,<br />

statistical analysis, database management, presentations, e-mail, and the<br />

use of online databases.<br />

hOw TO AppLY<br />

The D’Youville <strong>College</strong> School<br />

of <strong>Pharmacy</strong> participates in the<br />

<strong>Pharmacy</strong> <strong>College</strong> Admission<br />

Service (PharmCAS) (www.<br />

PharmCAS.org). Applicants<br />

should complete the PharmCAS<br />

application, submitting the<br />

results of the <strong>Pharmacy</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

Admissions Test (PCAT, code<br />

104), official transcripts from all<br />

colleges previously attended, and<br />

three letters of recommendation<br />

to PharmCAS. Non-US citizens<br />

must also take the TOEFL and TSE<br />

and have the scores reported to<br />

PharmCAS.<br />

Selected applicants will be invited<br />

to campus for an interview. The<br />

interview process employs a<br />

series of multiple mini-interviews<br />

to assess non-cognitive skills<br />

important to rendering patientcentered<br />

care. The School<br />

D’Youville <strong>College</strong> is a private,<br />

co-educational, liberal arts and<br />

professional college located in<br />

residential Buffalo, N.Y., a few blocks<br />

from the Peace Bridge. Founded in<br />

1908 by the Grey Nuns, D’Youville<br />

<strong>College</strong> has long been considered<br />

a leader among colleges for its<br />

D’Youville <strong>College</strong> is ideally located in a<br />

residential community of Buffalo, within<br />

a mile of downtown area and in close<br />

proximity to the Peace Bridge that links<br />

the United States and Canada. The<br />

location of the college affords many<br />

opportunities for those interested in art,<br />

culture, history and sports as well as for<br />

the casual sightseer and shopper.<br />

Within easy walking distance are several,<br />

well-established cultural landmarks.<br />

The award-winning Kavinoky Theatre,<br />

located on D’Youville’s campus, presents<br />

outstanding professional productions<br />

to sell-out audiences. Kleinhans Music<br />

Hall, home of the Buffalo Philharmonic<br />

Orchestra, features concerts of leading<br />

musical personalities, and the Karpeles<br />

Manuscript Museum and Library, one of<br />

D’Youville’s neighbors on the West Side,<br />

is just five minutes from campus.<br />

Amtrak, Metro train and bus stations<br />

and a junction to the New York State<br />

Thruway are all located in downtown<br />

Buffalo. Also, the Buffalo International<br />

Airport is a 20-minute drive from<br />

the D’Youville campus, thus making<br />

the college accessible from virtually<br />

one mile from downtown Buffalo,<br />

near the Peace Bridge. Off-street<br />

parking is available or you may park<br />

in the student parking lots (lots<br />

B,C,D,E).<br />

If you are driving SOUTHbound<br />

on the Niagara section (I-<br />

190) of the NYS Thruway, exit<br />

EAST ON PORTER AVENUE EXIT 9,<br />

turn LEFT on Porter Avenue and<br />

continue to the college.<br />

If you are driving NORTHbound on<br />

the Niagara section (I-190) of the<br />

NYS Thruway, exit on NIAGARA<br />

STREET EXIT 8, turn LEFT on<br />

Niagara then RIGHT on Porter<br />

Avenue and continue to the college.<br />

If you are driving from CANADA<br />

Take the QEW, follow the signs to<br />

Fort Erie, to the Peace Bridge. After<br />

you go through U.S. customs, bear<br />

to the left and follow the signs to<br />

Niagara Street (Route 266 south).<br />

Travel to the second traffic light<br />

and turn LEFT onto Porter Avenue.<br />

Continue straight (4 traffic lights) to<br />
