Mechanical strength
S: Extra strong, resists a 22 mm, 43 g ball falling 1.30 m
F: Low energy impact, resists a 6 mm, 0.86 g ball at 45 m/s
B: Medium energy impact, resists a 6 mm, 0.86 g ball at 120 mis
A: High energy impact, resists a 6 mm, 0.86 g ball at 190 mis
K: Resistance to surface damage by fine particles (optional).
N: Resistance to fogging (optional).
T: The letter T, immediately after the mechanical strength symbol,
authorises use in an environment in which high speed particles
at extreme temperatures are present.
Frame
NB: The A, B, F, and S markings on frame and lens represent tests carried out on
each component and therefore may be different – in which case the lower level
must be assigned to the complete unit when making an assessment.
*EN 166 option K : resistance to surface damage by fine particles. For the lenses
to comply, light diffusion after abrasion must be less than 5 candelas 2 per m
*EN 166 option N : fog resistance. For the lenses to comply, they must be fog-free
for a minimum of 8 seconds at 100°C.
