Dear Parishioners and Friends of the Kimisis Tis Theotokou,
The joyous event of the 40th Anniversary of our Parish is a wonderful
reason to celebrate. We are not only honoring the founders of this
community, but also the parishioners who have made this celebration
possible with their hard and continuous work, faith, and devotion. We
must not forget, though, that this is not only our celebration, but also a
celebration honoring the Orthodox faith and the Hellenic Civilization,
that we have struggled to preserve and maintain for thousands of years.
These two principles were the cornerstones for the establishment of our
Parish and Community as well as the many Greek Orthodox Communities
built around the country. The feeling of nostalgia that the first Greek immigrants held was the driving
force that helped to carry their culture and faith over to their new home.
They fulfilled this noble desire by establishing the many Greek Orthodox parishes around the country
and zealously worked to instill their identity into American Society. Our Heavenly father, with His
grace, blessed the founders of these communities to promote and continue Orthodoxy and Hellenism
for the future generations.
As of January 15, 2016, I have had the honor and privilege of serving one of these communities by
becoming the pastor of the Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church. It has truly been a wonderful
and memorable year and I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the President, Mr. Paul
Callamaras, along with the Parish Council and the entire community for welcoming and embracing me
as their Spiritual Leader. Together, we will continue to support and fulfill the ministries of our Church.
Also, my gratitude to my predecessors, Very Reverend Fr. George Nikas, Reverend Protopresbyters
George Prasas, George Dounelis and George Daskalakis, for their dedication and commitment to the
parish. Its progress could not have been possible without them. I will always pray to Lord our God to
repose the souls of His beloved servants of our community Rev. Fr. George Prassas and Rev. Fr. George
Dounelis in the bosoms of Abraham in the courts of the saints and the righteous.
I would also like to thank the committee of the 40th Anniversary for all their efforts to make this
celebration a success.
Most of all, I would like to extend my personal gratitude to His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos for
this honor and promise to make every effort to fulfill my pastoral duties to the community.
We must never forget, as Orthodox Christians, our obligation to carry the message of our God to all
our brothers and sisters and become the means of His presence through our actions. In addition,
uphold our responsibility to teach the future generations about the importance of the Hellenic
Civilization so they will be able to understand Orthodoxy and its unique message to the world.
May we celebrate many more years together!

Alaina Bontales is awarded the Eastern Orthodox Committee
on Scouting National Scholarship which was presented in
church by EOCS National Scholarship committeeman Ron
Alegucci, chairman Dr. Larry Sherman, Fr. George Dounelis,
and advisors, Cheryl Bontales and Roula Merianos
Steve and Cheryl Bontales settled in Holmdel in 1985 and joined the Kimisis Community. Cheryl served on the executive
board of BAHA and later Philoptochos serving two terms as President, founded Kimisis Girl Scouts in 1995 and sang in
the choir since 1989. Steve joined the Parish Council, served for 20 consecutive years, three years as PC President and
was named AHEPAN of the year in 2010. We were blessed with three daughters who were raised in the church as their
second home, through their involvement in the Pre K play group, Joy, GOYA, Sunday School, Bible Study, Girl Scouts,
Greek Dance, Hellenic Dancers of NJ and now in their 20’s, Philoptochos members too. They each participated in Sights
and Sounds, Goya Olympics, religious retreats, earned the Girl Scout Silver Award and Girl Scout Gold Award. They dove
for the cross in Asbury Park, and Alaina retrieved it from the surf in 2009. We were blessed with friendships that will last
us a lifetime and the spiritual guidance of Fr. George Dounelis, Fr. Jim Chakalos, Fr. George Nikas, Fr. George Daskalakis
and now Fr. Panagiotis Lekkas, who along with Presbytera Eleni and their daughters we wish many years of health &
happiness in Holmdel.

(Patrick (Pat) J. Caputo is proud to have lived and practiced in Monmouth County
for the past 32 years. His original office was in Hazlet before relocating to a larger
space in Holmdel (across from Bayshore Hospital) in 2001. His 30 years in clinical
