THE CURRICULUM
Children at Walton Priory follow the statutory National
Curriculum set out in 2014. This is enhanced by bespoke
opportunities in certain year groups.
YEAR 5
In Year Five pupils experience STEM (science, technology,
engineering and maths) projects days such as ‘The Space Rocket
Challenge’. In school learning is supplemented by visits to
extend and apply their knowledge. All children in Year Five have
swimming lessons for a minimum of eighteen weeks.
YEAR 6
Year Six pupils enjoy a residential visit to an outdoor education
centre to complement their studies. They also swim for eighteen
weeks.
YEAR 7
Year Seven pupils enjoy an extra maths lesson every week. They
experience a residential visit to north Wales as well as
participating in the national Business and Enterprise Challenge.
Our accelerated reading
programme ensures that our
children are reading at the
correct level
YEAR 8
Year Eight pupils enjoy an ‘Options Afternoon’ each Friday
where they select from a menu of six-week programmes
focusing on sports, technology or business and enterprise.
This prepares them for the process of taking their Year Nine
options once they leave.
We have invested significantly in
a number of teaching assistants
so that children with special
educational needs are supported
particularly well within the
school; as too are our most able
students, who are provided with
more challenging extension tasks
and opportunities such as the
UK Maths team challenge at
Keele University.
