EXHIBITION DESIGN BRIEF

THE NATIONAL MUSEUM 

OF SINGAPORE 

INTRODUCTION : 

The National Museum of Singapore will for the very first time be hosting the 2015 

Future of Furniture . In conjunction with this event, the National Museum 

had awarded LCW Pte Ltd, a local design consultancy specializing in design, manufacture 

and installation of exhibition projects to create a futuristic feel to a furniture 

design to be exhibited during the event. 

OBJECTIVE : 

LCW Pte Ltd was asked to design and build a Wooden Chair to be suspended on the 

ceiling of the National Museum for the upcoming 2015 Future of Furniture 

TARGET AUDIENCE : 

The a Wooden Chair suspended on the ceiling will target all visitors to the 

Museum and the Conference, and as well professionals coming from the home interior 

designers, furniture designers, artisans, representatives from Architectural & 

Construction industry, etc





EXHIBIT THEME : 

In line with the National Museum up-coming theme .. .Our design 

will be an Ordinary but Simple Wooden Chair that should have some element of 

futuristic feel that combines traditional and modern design style. 

Since the main criteria that the should to be suspended high up in the 

ceiling, we had to incorporate a design that gives the impression that the Wooden 

Chair is also realistically flying gracefully up in the air rather than just being hanged 

for a static display. 

Our design of the Wooden Chair will be made with combination of Rubber Tree 

wood (that is common in this region) and a transparent clear Acrylic materials for to 

create a fading effects at the legs with no visible joints. 

The design uniqueness of this Wooden Chair with fading legs should mesmerize the 

audiences as its legs seems to gently disappear as though as it stand in a pool of 

mists and fogs. 

Hence, we called it the The Heavenly Fading .as appended of our initial 

design sketch below.

PROJECT SCOPE & REQUIREMENTS : 

1. The shall be suspended from the high ceiling of 

horizontal beam supporting the Glass Roof at the 

passageway towards the Central Foyer. 

2. The are scheduled be on display for 2 weeks from 

1 st August 2015 till 13 th August 2015. 

3. Timing of Installation and Removal of the are only 

be allocated from 19:30hrs till 08:30hrs.

whatsoever. 

5. The estimate weight of the is around 5.5kgs, and 

the suspension system will involve installing 4 Nos. of a 

stainless steel Camlock Beam Clamps that are able to 

withstand a maximum of total weight of 300 kgs. 

1.2 Stainless steel Camlock Beam 

Clamps of 4 Nos. are necessary to 

prevent swaying. 

6. For the attachment, we will use an industrial grade Nylon 

Rod that are not only transparent, flexible and have a 

strength force of 40.5kg/f. The diameter of the nylon rod is 

0.58mm. 

7. Certified professional installers will be hired for the 

installation and removal of the using an indoor 

electric hydraulics scissor platform. 

8. For protection from falling objects and a possible damages 

to the 

interior & other displays, We will use an 

industrial grade Rubber Cushion will be rolled over the floor 

and spread around surrounding area during installation and 

removal of the . 

9. A Professional Engineer will be contracted to ensure 

structural and load calculations of the suspension system is 

safe and stable. 

10. A Third party insurance will be procured for the same 

duration of the displayed at the venue.

BUDGETING COST : 

The estimated cost for the whole project of to design, build, install and removal of a Wooden Chair 

suspended on a ceiling of National Museum of Singapore is S$ 37,097.76 inclusive of GST.
