A Global Organizaon for Mass Control and Milk Quality Judges Select 53 NDQA Finalists Many thanks to those who took me to nominate dairies for the Naonal Dairy Quality Awards (NDQA) program. NMC received 122 nominaons and 53 dairies made it to the final round of judging. The criteria to become a finalist were extremely stringent: Average somac cell count less than 100,000 and all individual months less than 120,000 Average standard plate count less than 5,000 and all individual months less than 15,000 Percent of cows culled for udder reasons – less than 15% Percent of cows that died – less than 5% No anbioc violaons June 2015‐May 2016 Nominees run dairy operaons in 21 states, with finalists represenng 13 states. The largest dairy among the finalists has 3,412 cows. Average herd size within this group is 275 cows. Final NDQA judging will take place in November and results will be officially announced at the NMC 56th Annual Meeng, January 29‐31, 2017, at the TradeWinds Island Grand Resort, St. Pete Beach, Fla. In its January 10, 2017 issue, Hoard's Dairyman will publish a roundtable discussion about the NDQA Planum winners. All finalists will be ranked as Planum, Gold and Silver, and listed accordingly in Hoard’s Dairyman and on the NMC website. Submit Papers for Technology Transfer Session Guidelines and instrucons for subming manuscripts for presentaon during the 2017 Technology Transfer Session (TTS) are now available. Held each year during the Naonal Mass Council Annual Meeng, TTS supplements the program by providing mass and milk quality informaon through the use of posters and one‐on‐one interacons. Also, TTS parcipants have the opon to submit their paper for consideraon as an oral presentaon during the Research and Development Summaries Session, scheduled for the aernoon of Jan. 30, 2017. This session offers the opportunity for graduate students and new researchers to be involved in the oral presentaons at the NMC meeng. The TTS submission deadline is October 21. A Global Organizaon for Mass Control and Milk Quality NMC to Rekindle Silent Aucon at St. Pete Beach Meeng NMC is planning to hold a silent aucon on Monday evening of the NMC annual meeng. The focus is to hold an informal meet and greet, and ask for bids for items donated by members. NMC’s silent aucon goal is 20 items. Money raised will be used to enhance professional development efforts. “We hope this silent aucon gives our members a chance to make new acquaintances, renew old ones and raise a lile cash for NMC professional development,” said Sandra Godden, NMC president. “We encourage you to donate an item in the range of $25 or more to the aucon.” If you don’t have an item to donate, NMC staff suggests a cash donaon and an item will be purchased for the aucon and put up for bid. Suggesons for items that historically receive the highest bids at aucons of this type include techie gadgets, apparel and gi baskets. We encourage university researchers to donate apparel and/or create university baskets of collegiate goodies. Company apparel and other items from corporate closets are also highly suggested. Homemade items will also be a big hit for our members. Thanks in advance for your consideraon. Many more details will be available later this fall. In the meanme, put away your donated item today. European Mass Research Workers Gather November 3-4 Following a successful inaugural European Mass Research Workers (EMRW) meeng in 2015, the group is reconvening Nov. 3‐4 in conjuncon with the Brish Mass Conference (BMC), Worcestershire, United Kingdom. The EMRW meeng will feature short presentaons (12 to 15 minutes each) from every aendee, with open discussion covering a variety of mass research areas. This format smulates discussion and promotes the exchange of ideas. The EMRW meeng fosters a collaborave environment and is less formal than most BMC and Naonal Mas‐ s Council meengs, and is designed for those acvely involved in mass research, rather than industry representaves. Individuals with a pure commercial interest are excluded from this meeng. However, it is not intended to exclude clinicians and consultants who are acvely involved with mass research of publishable quality. EMRW organizers encourage younger researchers to aend the meeng, so they can capitalize on networking opportunies and present their work.
