SIGHTSEEING ON THE ASIAN<br />

SIDE OF ISTANBUL<br />

Beylerbeyi Palace is located in the<br />

Beylerbeyi at the Asian side of the<br />

Bosphorus. An Imperial Ottoman<br />

summer residence built in the 1860s. It<br />

is now situated immediately north of the<br />

Bosphorus Bridge<br />

Küçüksu Pavilion is a summer palace<br />

situated in the Küçüksu neighborhood of<br />

Beykoz district on the Asian shore of the<br />

Bosphorus between Anadoluhisarı and<br />

the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. The tiny<br />

palace was used by Ottoman Sultans for<br />

short stays during country excursions<br />

and hunting.<br />

Çamlıca Hill is a hill in Üsküdar district.<br />

Situated on the Asian part of the city at<br />

268 m (879 ft) above sea level. Çamlıca<br />

Hill has a panaromic view of the southern<br />

part of Bosphorus and the mouth of<br />

Golden Horn The Hill is a popular visitor<br />

attraction. There is historical-designed<br />

tea houses, cafes and a restaurant<br />

inside a public park with monumental<br />

trees, flower gardens and fountains, run<br />

by the Metropolitan Municipality<br />

Bağdat Avenue is the heart of the Asian<br />

side of Istanbul. The lively part stars in<br />

Bostancı and ends in Kızıltoprak. There<br />

are many shops, bookstores, restaurants<br />

and sidewalk cafes. There might be a<br />

little for tourists here, but if you are<br />

curious about how people live on Asian<br />

side, this is the most enjoyable place to<br />

get sense of it.<br />

Prince’s Island during the summer months<br />

the Prince Island are popular destinations<br />

for day trips from Istanbul. As there is no<br />

traffic on the Islands, the only transport<br />

being horse and cart, they are incredibly<br />

peaceful compared with the city of<br />

Istanbul. They are just a short ferry ride<br />

departing from Bostancı or Kadıköy.<br />

Maiden’s Tower also know as Leander’s<br />

Tower (Tower of Leandros) since the<br />

medieval Byzantine period, is a tower lying<br />

on a small islet located at the southern<br />

entrance of the Bosphorus strait 200 m<br />

(220 yd) from the coast of Üsküdar.<br />

Yogurt in Kanlıca Once a sleepy waterside<br />

village, the Bosphorus neighborhood<br />

of Kanlıca is famous for its creamy and<br />

tart yogurt which is served sprinkled with<br />

powdered sugar.<br />

Mihrimah Sultan Mosque Not to be<br />

confused whit the identically-named<br />

mosque in Edirnekapı, this large<br />

structure is also know as the Iskele Camii<br />

(Mosque of the Pier) due to its location<br />

the Üsküdar ferry terminal. Designed<br />

by Mimar Sinan and commissioned<br />

by Mihrimah Sultan, daughter of<br />

Süleyman the Magnificent, the mosque<br />

- whose twin minarets are an instantly<br />

recognizable part of the Üsküdar<br />

skyline - was complated in 1548. The<br />

freestanding fountain in front of the<br />

mosque - which serves as a traffic island<br />

- was built by Sultan Ahmet III in 1726.<br />

Haydarpaşa Railway Station The first<br />

is one of the main container terminals<br />

of Turkey, while the second is a Neo-<br />

Renaissance style bulding built in 1908 is<br />

the Istanbul-Damascus-Medina railway<br />

terminal.<br />

Anadolu Citadel Interior of the citadel<br />

is not open to public. A medieval citadel<br />

a little older and much smaller than its<br />

European counterpart, situated on the<br />

meadow where tranquil Göksu River<br />

empties into the Bosphorus, surrounded<br />

by picturesque wooden traditional houses.<br />

Toy Museum is a museum which adults<br />

can enjoy as much as kids. Founded by<br />

poet Sunay Akın, the museum is housed<br />

in a historical mansion in Göztepe<br />

neighbourhood east of Kadıköy. Among<br />

the 2.000 pieces of toys from around<br />

the world that are in exhibition, the<br />

oldest ones are a violin made in France<br />

in 1817 and a doll made in the united.<br />

Waterside Walk with its wide pedestrain<br />

path, the miles-long seaside promenade<br />

from Fenerbahçe to Bostancı is a very<br />

pleasant place to go for a walk on the<br />

weekend; on the way, if weather permits,<br />

you’ll see swimmers,<br />

sunbathers, joggers,<br />

rollerbladers, soccerplayers,<br />

couples<br />

holding hands, and<br />

vendors of simit, tea<br />

and cotton candy.<br />
