SIGHTSEEING ON THE ASIAN
SIDE OF ISTANBUL
Beylerbeyi Palace is located in the
Beylerbeyi at the Asian side of the
Bosphorus. An Imperial Ottoman
summer residence built in the 1860s. It
is now situated immediately north of the
Bosphorus Bridge
Küçüksu Pavilion is a summer palace
situated in the Küçüksu neighborhood of
Beykoz district on the Asian shore of the
Bosphorus between Anadoluhisarı and
the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. The tiny
palace was used by Ottoman Sultans for
short stays during country excursions
and hunting.
Çamlıca Hill is a hill in Üsküdar district.
Situated on the Asian part of the city at
268 m (879 ft) above sea level. Çamlıca
Hill has a panaromic view of the southern
part of Bosphorus and the mouth of
Golden Horn The Hill is a popular visitor
attraction. There is historical-designed
tea houses, cafes and a restaurant
inside a public park with monumental
trees, flower gardens and fountains, run
by the Metropolitan Municipality
Bağdat Avenue is the heart of the Asian
side of Istanbul. The lively part stars in
Bostancı and ends in Kızıltoprak. There
are many shops, bookstores, restaurants
and sidewalk cafes. There might be a
little for tourists here, but if you are
curious about how people live on Asian
side, this is the most enjoyable place to
get sense of it.
Prince’s Island during the summer months
the Prince Island are popular destinations
for day trips from Istanbul. As there is no
traffic on the Islands, the only transport
being horse and cart, they are incredibly
peaceful compared with the city of
Istanbul. They are just a short ferry ride
departing from Bostancı or Kadıköy.
Maiden’s Tower also know as Leander’s
Tower (Tower of Leandros) since the
medieval Byzantine period, is a tower lying
on a small islet located at the southern
entrance of the Bosphorus strait 200 m
(220 yd) from the coast of Üsküdar.
Yogurt in Kanlıca Once a sleepy waterside
village, the Bosphorus neighborhood
of Kanlıca is famous for its creamy and
tart yogurt which is served sprinkled with
powdered sugar.
Mihrimah Sultan Mosque Not to be
confused whit the identically-named
mosque in Edirnekapı, this large
structure is also know as the Iskele Camii
(Mosque of the Pier) due to its location
the Üsküdar ferry terminal. Designed
by Mimar Sinan and commissioned
by Mihrimah Sultan, daughter of
Süleyman the Magnificent, the mosque
- whose twin minarets are an instantly
recognizable part of the Üsküdar
skyline - was complated in 1548. The
freestanding fountain in front of the
mosque - which serves as a traffic island
- was built by Sultan Ahmet III in 1726.
Haydarpaşa Railway Station The first
is one of the main container terminals
of Turkey, while the second is a Neo-
Renaissance style bulding built in 1908 is
the Istanbul-Damascus-Medina railway
terminal.
Anadolu Citadel Interior of the citadel
is not open to public. A medieval citadel
a little older and much smaller than its
European counterpart, situated on the
meadow where tranquil Göksu River
empties into the Bosphorus, surrounded
by picturesque wooden traditional houses.
Toy Museum is a museum which adults
can enjoy as much as kids. Founded by
poet Sunay Akın, the museum is housed
in a historical mansion in Göztepe
neighbourhood east of Kadıköy. Among
the 2.000 pieces of toys from around
the world that are in exhibition, the
oldest ones are a violin made in France
in 1817 and a doll made in the united.
Waterside Walk with its wide pedestrain
path, the miles-long seaside promenade
from Fenerbahçe to Bostancı is a very
pleasant place to go for a walk on the
weekend; on the way, if weather permits,
you’ll see swimmers,
sunbathers, joggers,
rollerbladers, soccerplayers,
couples
holding hands, and
vendors of simit, tea
and cotton candy.
The promenade,
known as sahilyolu
in Turkish, has
great views of the
Princes Islands
just off the coast
in the sea of
Marmara
