Staff Sergeant Matthew C. Erickson performs on bass trombone with the Brass in Blue brass ensemble and Ceremonial Band of the
USAF Heartland of America Band, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. Administratively, Sergeant Erickson is the Noncommissioned
Officer-In-Charge and Music Director of Brass in Blue, as well as the Drum Major for the Ceremonial Band.. Sergeant Erickson has
performed with Offutt Brass and The Noteables on tenor and bass trombones and euphonium.
Sergeant Erickson was also chosen as the USAF Heartland of America Band's 2004 Airman of the Year and the USAF Band and
Music Program's 2004 Airman of the Year. Sergeant Erickson was a featured soloist with the Concert Band on two tours and a guest
soloist with numerous local community bands and universities. In March 2002, he was featured with the Augustana College, S.D.,
Trombone Choir at the 2002 Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Terry Beckler currently serves as Director of the Concert Band and assistant director of the Marching Wolves at Northern State
University. Prior to his appointment at NSU, Dr. Beckler served as Director of Bands at Southwest Minnesota State University in
Marshall, MN and Director of Bands at Huron University. He also has ten years of public school experience as band director for the
Red Rock Central (Lamberton, MN) and Sioux Valley (Volga, SD) school districts. Dr. Beckler has been a member of the 147th Army
Band based in Mitchell, SD for twenty years. He enlisted in 1986 as a percussionist and since 1998 has served as
commander/conductor of this group. In January of 2006 the 147th Army Band was awarded the Howard Citation of Musical
Excellence administered by the John Philip Sousa Foundation. Mr. Beckler currently holds the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. He is
an active clinician in South Dakota and Minnesota and a former member of the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps. Dr. Beckler's degrees
include a BME from South Dakota State University, MM from the University of Northern Colorado, and a PhD in Music Education at
the University of Minnesota.
A native of Brookings, South Dakota, Dr. Boyd Perkins earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Wind Conducting from The
University of Iowa. Additional degrees include a Master of Arts degree in Wind Conducting from The University of Iowa and a BME
from South Dakota State University. With successful public school teaching experience in Iowa, South Dakota, and Minnesota, Dr.
Perkins has developed a strong multifaceted reputation as a music educator in the areas of concert band, marching band, and jazz. He
maintains an active adjudication and clinician schedule in all three areas. Dr. Perkins’ duties at NSU include low brass studies,
instrumental conducting, marching band, symphonic band, marching band techniques, and music administration. Most recently under
Dr. Perkins’ leadership, the NSU Marching Wolves were the lone selection from South Dakota in the 2006 Holiday Parade
commemorating the 65th Anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. In 2005 the Marching Wolves were one of eight collegiate
bands selected to appear in the Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C. In addition to the NSU Marching Wolves, Dr
Perkins writes marching band shows for numerous high school bands and has written shows for The University of Iowa Hawkeye
Marching Band. As a euphonium performer, Dr. Perkins has been the runner up in the national MTNA-Wurlitzer Brass competition,
and has appeared as a soloist with numerous high school and community bands, as well as with The University of Iowa Symphony
Band, the South Dakota State University Symphonic Band, and the South Dakota State University Symphony Orchestra. In addition,
Dr. Perkins has been the featured soloist on three European tours, including the Midwest Ambassadors of Music and Iowa
Ambassadors of Music. He is currently the Band Chair for the South Dakota Music Educators Association.
