Fearrington Village
real estate
the story of fearrington
Welcome to an over 40 year adventure of converting a farm and its surrounding
land into a country village. The story of Fearrington begins in 1786 when Jesse
Fearrington’s great-great-grandfather, William Cole, purchased a 640-acre farm in
Chatham County, North Carolina. For nearly two centuries the farm was passed from
generation to generation. The beautiful farm had been a landmark on my trips from
Chapel Hill to the coast as a child growing up; when Jesse offered the land for sale in
1974, my late wife Jenny and I instinctively purchased it. The dairy barn and silo still
crown the landscape, and our cows —Belted Galloways—graze in the meadow. Now
nearly 2,000 residents hailing from over 40 states live in the surrounding woodlands,
with more moving here every month. I invite you to visit and learn more.
It’s a family business—R.B. with children Keebe and Greg
We’ve been carefully crafting the Fearrington community and Village Center since
1974 in the Triangle, a part of the country consistently ranked tops in quality of life
surveys. As a result, residents enjoy countless amenities inside Fearrington and beyond.
Our Community
Established community. Nearly 2,000 residents from over 40 states and several
countries call Fearrington home. From the shops and restaurants in the Village Center
to our wellness facilities, we are ready to welcome you.
Diverse neighborhoods. From efficient townhomes to sidewalk neighborhoods to
homes on private, wooded homesites to the adjacent continuing care facility, Galloway
Ridge, it’s easy to find a home here and stay as your needs change.
Wellness. With miles of walking paths, facilities like a fantastic outdoor pool and the
Duke Center for Living.
Clubs & Activities. From golfing to biking, and fresh local produce at the
Fearrington Farmers’ Market, there’s plenty of ways to get involved at Fearrington.
Safety. We’re in Chatham County, which has one of the lowest crime rates in North
Carolina (and we’re across the street from the North Chatham Fire Department).
Our Location & Surrounding Area
Mild climate. We enjoy four distinct seasons without the extremes. With average
highs varying between 50 degrees in January to 89 degrees in August, outdoor activities
such as golf, walking and running are possible year-round here.
Proximity to a major airport. Half an hour away lies Raleigh-Durham
International Airport, where ten major airlines offer service to nearly 40 domestic and
international destinations.
Natural beauty. We’re located on the beautiful, forested hills of a former dairy farm
with pastures that contain our curious Belted Galloway cows. North Carolina’s worldfamous
beaches and mountains are less than a three hour drive away.
Continuing education. Home to three world-class universities (each with a
lifelong learning center), the Triangle is obsessed with higher education. Our celebrated
independent bookstore, McIntyre’s Books, hosts well over one hundred author events
annually.
Culture & Entertainment. The vibrant culture and arts scene in the Piedmont is
hopping! In Chapel Hill alone there’s Carolina Performing Arts, Playmakers Theatre,
the Ackland Art Museum, top ranked basketball programs and more!
Recreation. Fearrington is convenient to some of North Carolina’s finest
championship golf courses. Right here, discover a selection of nearby charming
boutiques, fresh local produce at our Farmers’ Market or tour breath-taking gardens.
Spend a relaxing day at a nearby lake or park.
Access to excellent health care. And, did you know Fearrington has its
very own Duke Primary Care Clinic? Tthe hospitals at nearby Duke and UNC are
consistently ranked among the best in the country. For short-term health concerns, the
not-for-profit Fearrington Cares lends a hand.
a story:
finding fearrington
Below you’ll find testimonials from two sets of Fearrington residents.
Barry & Joy Bond
The Bonds were celebrating their 30th Anniversary
at The Fearrington House Inn and exploring
beyond the Village Center when they discovered
Fearrington’s neighborhoods. Fearrington was
unlike anything they’d ever seen. “The camaraderie
of the neighborhoods, the clubs and activities, the
restaurants, shops, book store, Swim & Croquet,
walking trails - all combine into the Fearrington
charm,” they said. “When we approach the Village
and see the white fences, silo and Belted Galloways
grazing, we experience a special welcome - it just
feels right.” After seeing the lot sizes and forests
surrounding the beautiful homs, the Bonds knew they didn’t want to leave - so they
moved to Fearrington in 2005.
James & Sue Aiken
The Aikens moved into their custom
Fearrington home in 2015, after deciding
not to purchase an existing home. “The best
surprise [about the building process] was
how willing, even eager, the Fitch Creations
team was to build an original house based on
our own floor plan and design,” they said. “I
don’t think we ever heard the words ‘We can’t
do that.” The Aikens’ designed and chose
details which fit their lifestyle - custom cabinets, high windows and 12-fot ceilings, plus
great spaces for entertaining and displaying art. “From starting the project to completion,
and even afterwards, the Fitch Creations team has been attentive to all our requests and
questions,” they said. “We always felt our project was their top priority.”
