Message of Honorable Vice Chancellor, KMU<br />

We at KMU very warmly welcome <strong>Khyber</strong> <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>University</strong> Institute of <strong>Medical</strong><br />

Sciences in our family. This is the sixth constituent institute of the first and only public sector medical university<br />

of the province. There is a long list of unfulfilled dreams in the realms of medical education, and I am very<br />

confident that <strong>KIMS</strong> will offer a platform to translate them into reality in a controlled environment. We have<br />

high expectations from <strong>KIMS</strong> to lead and contribute in the growth and development of quality medical<br />

professionals. KMU is heavily investing in <strong>KIMS</strong> to build its capacity in terms of infrastructure, teaching and<br />

training. We intend to develop <strong>KIMS</strong> as a role model undergraduate medical institution for implementation of<br />

new international standard teaching techniques enabling our graduate to excel in the international market.<br />

In order to compete and lead amongst the public and private sector medical colleges, <strong>KIMS</strong>’s faculty is expected<br />

to deliver its best - both in teaching, training and medical research. The fortunate students who are selected to<br />

this seat of learning and research will be expected to invest all their potentials in curricular and extra-curricular<br />

activities. The aim of <strong>KIMS</strong> is to produce doctors equipped with latest knowledge and skills, passion for research<br />

and above all rear a tender heart that cares for patients.<br />

Introduction<br />

<strong>Khyber</strong> <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>University</strong> Institute of <strong>Medical</strong> Sciences Kohat was conceived and realized by Kohat <strong>University</strong> of<br />

Science and Technology ( KMU). On the directions of the then Chancellor KMU / Governor KPK, Syed Iftikhar<br />

Hussain Shah, the KMU syndicate took a bold decision in 2005 to start the first ever Institute of <strong>Medical</strong> Sciences.<br />

It speaks the volume of zeal with which the KMU wants to serve the people. The Inauguration of <strong>KIMS</strong> was<br />

performed on Thursday April 6, 2006 by the then Governor KPK Mr Khalil-ur-Rehman.<br />

<strong>Khyber</strong> <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>University</strong> Institute of <strong>Medical</strong> Sciences Kohat (<strong>KIMS</strong>) was shifted to <strong>Khyber</strong> <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>University</strong> as<br />

a constituent Institute on 25.11.2011 vide Govt of <strong>Khyber</strong> Pakhtunkhwa Health Department Notification No. SOH/3-<br />

3/KMU dated 25.11.2011.<br />

The Institute is recognized by PMDC on permanent basis. First batch of students have passed out. <strong>KIMS</strong> had future<br />

vision of starting Dental section and this dream is being fulfilled by starting classes immediately for which necessary<br />

arrangements are being made. Nursing education, paramedics and post graduate education are plans for the near<br />

future.<br />

.The Institute is located in the most developed and modern area of Kohat Development Authority (KDA). <strong>KIMS</strong> is at<br />

one hour drive from KPK capital Peshawar. The <strong>University</strong> main Campus is located at Peshawar. Liaqat Memorial<br />

and Divisional Headquarter hospitals of 500 beds capacity have been declared as teaching hospitals for<br />

<strong>KIMS</strong> by the Govt. of KPK. Both the hospitals are well equipped having nursing wards for different types for patients<br />

besides operation theaters, radiology and diagnostic Labs etc.<br />

Admission Policy<br />

General Policy_ Important Notes<br />

All candidates must study this prospectus thoroughly before applying for admission to <strong>KIMS</strong>.<br />

1. <strong>KIMS</strong>, Kohat offers five years course leading to MBBS degree and 4 years course leading to BDS Degree.<br />

2. This prospectus is approved by the KMU and applies to all students of MBBS/BDS applying for admission or<br />

admitted to <strong>KIMS</strong>.<br />

3. An Admission Committee to be constituted by principal <strong>KIMS</strong> and approved by the Vice Chancellor KMU,<br />

will supervise the overall process of admission.<br />

4. The Vice Chancellor shall be the final authority to accord approval to the admission & listen to appeals by<br />

intending candidates who could not be recommended for admission due to variety of reasons and as per<br />

KMU rules.<br />

5. Intending students will submit applications for admission on prescribed forms to be downloaded from website<br />

of KMU (www.kmu.edu.pk).The form must reach the office of the Principal <strong>KIMS</strong> on or before the due date within<br />

official duty hours.<br />

6. The fee and subscription given in this prospectus are payable by all the students of <strong>KIMS</strong>. This may be<br />

subject to adjustment by the KMU from time to time corresponding to inflation and cost of education etc.<br />

7. The Vice Chancellor reserves the right to make necessary changes in the syllabi and<br />

examination procedure for MBBS/BDS students as and when notified by PMDC and HEC at any time during<br />

the course of studies.<br />

8. Incorrect information or suppression of facts in application form shall entail refusal of admission.<br />

9. A student convicted of any offence and / or having served a sentence in jail will not be<br />

eligible for admission.<br />

10. The candidates shall have to keep themselves informed of the prescribed date of interview / admission.<br />

No separate call letters will be issued for interviews or admission confirmation. The provisional merit list<br />

will be displayed on the <strong>KIMS</strong> Notice Board and KMU website ( www.kmu.edu.pk ) on the schedule dates<br />

as detailed in the admission advertisement.<br />

11. Admission will be given after the deposition of fees, others dues and medical fitness.<br />

12. Candidate selected for admission shall be required to finalize the admission requirements i.e fees / dues<br />

etc with in the prescribed period, failing which his / her right of admission will be given<br />

to the next candidate, from the waiting list.<br />

13. No candidate will be considered to have been admitted unless he / she has paid the fee and dues.<br />

14. Absence from classes for four consecutive weeks from the date of admission without any genuine reason<br />

shall entail cancellation of admission.<br />

A total of 100 seats in MBBS & 50 seats in BDS are offered in KMU-IMS. The distributions of the seats are as follow:-<br />

1. Subsidized open merit seats are open to applicants possessing valid domicile certificate of KPK including backward<br />

areas of KPK.<br />

2. 04 seats are reserved for FATA candidates possessing valid FATA domicile certificate.<br />

(i) Admission to FATA seats will be made purely on the basis of inter se merit among the<br />

contesting FATA candidates.<br />

(ii) Two seat will be reserved for FATA IN and Two for FATA OUT.<br />

(iii)<br />

The four reserved FATA seats will be interchangeable in case of non availability of<br />

candidate from either of the category.<br />

(iv) Admission of FATA candidates to <strong>KIMS</strong> shall not be subject in any way to rules and<br />

regulations of SAFRON / FATA secretariat KPK.<br />

(v) FATA candidate shall apply only against FATA reserved seats as well as on semi subsidized seats<br />

However they are not eligible for subsidized open merit seats.<br />

3. 01 seat is reserved for Hangu (backward area for education).<br />

(i) The candidates applying for Hangu seat must have a valid domicile certificate of Hangu<br />

district.<br />

(ii) These candidates can also apply for open merit seat but to be considered on open merit<br />

as well as quota seat, they must apply for both open merit and backward area seat on<br />

separate forms, clearly indicating their choice of Hangu seat.<br />

(iii) It will be the choice of the candidate to avail open merit / reserve seat.<br />

(iv)<br />

Seats Distribution<br />

Admission to seat of Hangu / FATA IN shall be made on the basis of the<br />

following priority of obtaining uninterrupted education [ not passing exam ] with in the Hangu district<br />

The same criterion of priority shall be applicable to FATA IN candidates.<br />

(v) In case no candidate is available from the given list of priorities, then admission will be<br />

granted on the basis of Hangu domicile cum merit.<br />

(vi) In case of candidate having obtained education from outside Hangu district, no preference<br />

will be given to adjoining district over the distant district.<br />

Note: Any reserved seat remaining unfilled till one week before the final closing date of admission will be filled<br />

through open merit.<br />

All the candidates applying for admission in MBBS/BDS courses must fulfill the following requirements.<br />

I. Qualifications:<br />

The candidates applying for admission against any category of seats must have passed the F.Sc. (Pre-<br />

<strong>Medical</strong>) examination from any Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education in Pakistan in 1st Division<br />

with at least 60 % unadjusted marks.<br />

OR<br />

Passed an examination of Foreign <strong>University</strong> / Board other than Afghanistan which, in scope and standard<br />

is found equivalent to the F.Sc (Pre-<strong>Medical</strong>) examination of Pakistan, subject to the following:<br />

I. The examination is recognized as equivalent to F.Sc (Pre-<strong>Medical</strong>) by the Inter Board<br />

Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), Islamabad. It shall be the responsibility of the candidates<br />

to settle their cases with IBCC and get clearance certificate from IBCC, Islamabad for<br />

recognition of their qualifications.<br />

ii. The equivalence certificate must be attached with the application form before the final<br />

closing date.<br />

iii. Provisional equivalence certificate issued by the IBCC may be entertained for admission.<br />

However, confirmation of candidates admission will be subject to production of proper<br />

equivalence certificate issued by the IBCC.<br />

iv. The candidate has obtained marks equal to unadjusted 60% of F.Sc. total marks according<br />

to the formula laid down by the IBCC, Islamabad.<br />

v. The equivalence certificates of such candidates will not be accepted if they have not<br />

studied and passed the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology in their 9th, 10th, 11th<br />

and 12th Grade, O & A levels or other equivalent examination recognized by the IBCC.<br />

They must have passed English as a subject at O or A level.<br />

vi. Only the Converted Marks Certificates issued by the IBCC will be accepted. The<br />

equivalence of marks will be on the basis of a certificate issued by IBCC.<br />

2. Entrance Test:<br />

Eligibility Criteria for Admission<br />

The candidate must have appeared in the entrance test of ETEA KPK for the current academic year.<br />

I. There will be no passing marks but appearance in the test is a must.<br />

ii. The result of the test will be valid for the current academic year only and the result of the<br />

previous year will not be considered for the current session.<br />

iii. A candidate appearing in the entrance test cannot claim admission against any seat unless<br />

he / she fulfills other criteria specified in the admission policy.<br />

Eligibility Criteria for Admission<br />

3. Possession of valid domicile certificate.<br />

4. Weightage for preparation of final merit list.<br />

5. AGE<br />

i. The candidate and his/her father must posses a valid domicile certificate of concerned area.<br />

ii. The domicile certificate once submitted with the admission form cannot be changed and<br />

shall be considered as final.<br />

EXAMINATION / TEST WEIGHTAGE<br />

SSC or equivalent level examination 10%<br />

Adjusted marks in F.Sc or equivalent examination 40%<br />

Entrance Test 50%<br />

EXAMPLE:<br />

A candidate has obtained marks:<br />

i. SSC or Equivalent qualification 870 / 1050 = 82.85 %<br />

ii. Adjusted F. Sc. marks or equivalent level marks 920 / 1100 = 83.63 %<br />

iii. Entrance Test Marks 380 / 800 = 47.50 %<br />

His / Her merit will be calculated as follow:<br />

Examination. Weightage Factor Marks<br />

a. SSC = 82.85 x 0.1 = 8.28<br />

b. F.Sc = 83.63 x 0.4 = 33.45<br />

c. Entrance Test = 47.50 x 0.5 =23.75<br />

Merit score of the candidate = a+b+c = 8.28 + 33.45 + 23.75 = 65.48<br />

Final calculation in percentage will be rounded up to two decimal points.<br />

There is no lower or upper age limit for admission in <strong>KIMS</strong>, Kohat.<br />

Note: Whenever two or more candidates are bracketed equal in the final merit list, the older candidate<br />

will be preferred over the younger one. In case the tie continues, the one having better marks in F.sc.<br />

shall be preferred. It the tie still continues then the candidate with better marks in entrance test shall be<br />

given preference.<br />

Admission of the candidate will be cancelled if:<br />

i. It is found at any stage of MBBS/BDS course that the candidate was not entitled for admission<br />

according to the <strong>KIMS</strong> admission policy.<br />

ii. Candidate is found medically unfit at any stage of MBBS/BDS course.<br />

iii. Candidate fails to report for admission and fails to deposit the fee within due period.<br />

iv. Any document, information provided by a candidate is found false / fake or fabricated at<br />

any stage of MBBS/BDS course.<br />

v. It is found that candidate was not entitled for admission in preference to the other<br />

candidates who applied for admission at any stage of MBBS/BDS course.<br />

Documents required with Application Form<br />

Application forms will be made available at the KMU website (www.kmu.edu.pk).<br />

The documents & certificates must be attested by a gazetted Govt. servant. The stamp of the officer must bear<br />

his / her full name, designation and current place of duty. Selected candidates shall have to submit all original<br />

certificates at the time of interview / admission.<br />

The original documents of the selected candidates will be retained by the College and returned only at the time<br />

of leaving the Institution. The application forms and photocopies of the documents submitted by the candidates,<br />

not selected, will not be returned to them.<br />

Applicants must attach with application forms attested photocopies of the following certificates and documents<br />

in the given sequence<br />

.<br />

i. Secondary School Certificate issued by the concerned board (not school ) / equivalence certificate.<br />

ii. 02 copies of Detailed Marks Certificate of F.Sc on the basis of which admission is sought.<br />

iii. An equivalence certificate from the IBCC, Islamabad, if the qualifying certificate is from an Institute abroad.<br />

iv. 01 copy of Computerized National Identity Card of the candidate / Computerized Form-B.<br />

Photocopy of both sides of the CNIC should be taken on the same side of a full page.<br />

v. 01 copy of CNIC of the father of the applicant, if the father is not alive then a copy of the CNIC of the<br />

mother or guardian [ see instruction for the CNIC of the candidate ].<br />

vi. 02 Copies of Domicile certificate of the candidate.<br />

vii. 01 copy of Domicile certificate of the father of the applicant. If the father is not alive, then the death<br />

certificate of the father issued by the municipal authority / hospital, along with the domicile certificate of<br />

the mother showing clearly her spouse name, have to be submitted. In case the spouse name is not<br />

written in the mother’s domicile certificate then domicile certificate of the brother may be submitted. A<br />

guardianship certificate shall also be submitted in such cases [specimen of guardianship certificate is<br />

given at the end of prospectus].<br />

viii. 01 copy of Attempt certificate from the concerned BISE only if the period between SSC and F. Sc. is more<br />

than two academic years.<br />

ix. Three passport size colored photographs of the applicant attested on the back.<br />

x. FATA IN candidates must attach a certificate, issued by the Head master/Principal of the concerned<br />

school/college & duly countersigned by the concerned EDO Education, clearly showing the date of<br />

admission to and discharge from the school/college and also the exact duration of stay in the institute and<br />

location of institute as per specimen on page 56 of the <strong>Prospectus</strong><br />

xi. Hafiz-e-Quran certificate from a Registered Madrassa if the candidate claims to be Hafiz-e-Quran.<br />

xii. Original Undertaking on judicial stamp paper of Rs. 30/- duly attested by Deputy Commissioner / Political<br />

Agent as per specimen given in the prospectus / admission form [only for admitted candidates ] .<br />

xiii. 01 copy of affidavit regarding completion of study in <strong>KIMS</strong> as per specimen on page 57 of the <strong>Prospectus</strong>.<br />

Warnings<br />

1. Incomplete application form and form carrying false statement will be rejected.<br />

2. Revision of result or improvement of marks by the board / IBCC after the finalization of merit list shall not<br />

affect the merit list of admission of current year in any way. Any certificate issued after the dates fixed for<br />

final merit list display shall not be entertained.<br />

3. If any certificate submitted by the candidate is found false or forged during his / her study period, his / her<br />

admission shall be cancelled forthwith and further legal action can be taken against the student under the<br />

existing criminal laws.<br />

SCRUTINY COMMITTEE.<br />

The Principal <strong>KIMS</strong> shall constitute a scrutiny committee, which will scrutinize the documents of all candidates.<br />

ADJUSTMENT OF MARKS<br />

The following marks will be added / deducted from the total marks of F.Sc. obtained by the candidate in order to<br />

calculate the adjusted marks. The addition or deduction shall not change the eligibility (60% in F.Sc) of the<br />

candidate.<br />

1. Only Ten (10) marks ( irrespective of the number of attempts ), will be deducted for improving marks in<br />

F.Sc examination by the candidate beyond the period of two years after passing the SSC annual<br />

examination. The attempt certificate issued by the respective BISE shall be accepted as final proof of<br />

improving marks.<br />

2. Twenty (20) marks will be added to F.Sc. marks of a candidate who is Hafiz-e- Quran on the<br />

recommendation of committee for Hafiz-e-Quran.<br />

COMMITTEE FOR EVALUATION OF THE CLAIM OF HIFIZ-E-QURAN:<br />

The Principal <strong>KIMS</strong> with the approval of V.C KMU shall constitute a four members committee of a senior teacher<br />

of <strong>KIMS</strong> and Hafiz-e-Quran. Three of the four members will be Huffaz-e-Quran to be nominated by the Principal.<br />

This committee will test the validity of the claim of the candidate. The decision of the committee will be by<br />

consensus among the Huffaz-e-Quran and the result will be displayed the same day on the <strong>KIMS</strong> notice board.<br />

APPELLATE COMMITTEE FOR HAFIZ -E-QURAN<br />

If a candidate is not satisfied with the decision of the committee for Hafiz-e-Quran, he / she can appeal to the<br />

Appellate Committee for Hafiz-e-Quran within 48 hours. It shall comprise of three Hufaz-e-Quran and shall be<br />

constituted by the Vice Chancellor KMU on the request of the Principal <strong>KIMS</strong>.<br />

Selection and Admission of Applicants.<br />

1. The Chairman Admission Committee will display a provisional merit list for each category of candidates.<br />

Objection, if any, be submitted in writing to the Chairman who will be competent to rectify any error or<br />

omission. The final merit list will be displayed two days before the start of interview, on <strong>KIMS</strong> notice board<br />

and KMU website.<br />

2. The Admission Committee will interview the candidates for selection against open merit, FATA and Hangu<br />

seats and will finalize the merit list of all categories of candidates.<br />

3. The list of admitted candidates shall also be displayed on <strong>KIMS</strong> notice board, after the<br />

admission is provisionally finalized.<br />

No candidate will be admitted unless he / she have paid the fee and dues. All dues must be paid by the<br />

due date, otherwise next candidate on merit will be considered for admission.<br />

5. All admissions will be provisional and shall be confirmed only after approval of the Vice Chancellor KMU.<br />

All certificates or any other documents submitted with the admission form will be subject to verification.<br />

6. The Principal can remove a student from the college roll at any time during the course of his / her study if<br />

incorrect or wrong data had been submitted by such a candidate / parent / guardian at<br />

the time of admission. No show cause notice will be necessary for any action under this rule, nor would<br />

the <strong>University</strong>, the Principal or any other authority be liable for damages for any action taken under this rule.<br />

Any cost of litigation accrued by the <strong>University</strong> on account of law where the fault of the candidate is proved,<br />

shall have to be paid by the candidate or his / her parent / guardian.<br />

7. Admission fee and other dues will not be refunded to those students whose admission is cancelled due to<br />

his / her forged documents or who are rusticated / expelled / removed from the college roll for any reason.<br />

8. The <strong>Medical</strong> Board of the college will examine selected candidates. If a candidate is disqualified<br />

medically, he / she will not be admitted.<br />

9. The parent (s) or legal guardian must accompany all the candidates at the time of interview.<br />

10. If at the time of interview, an eligible candidate is not present for any category of seat, the seat will be<br />

offered to next candidate unless a very genuine reason for absence from interview on the due date or<br />

before is presented to Principal. The Principal will be the final authority to proceed further in the matter and<br />

decide the case accordingly.<br />

Admission Cancellation & Migration Policy<br />

Admission Cancellation<br />

No student is allowed to cancel his/her admission after the closure of admission date.<br />

Submission of Affidavit (only for admitted students)<br />

All the students admitted to MBBS/BDS programme in <strong>KIMS</strong> will have to submit an affidavit to the effect that he/she<br />

will complete MBBS/BDS programme in <strong>KIMS</strong> and all the original documents will be retained by the college till the<br />

completion of his/her study in <strong>KIMS</strong>.<br />

Any student who intends to cancel admission at any stage for seeking admission in another <strong>Medical</strong> College or<br />

for reappearance in ETEA test, after the closure of admission, shall be liable to a penalty of Rs. 400,000/- (Four<br />

Hundred Thousand) for wasting of a precious seat.<br />

Original documents will be returned only after payment of the due penalty.<br />

Affidavit is to be recorded on Stamp Paper of Rs. 30/- and duly signed by the Oath Commissioner in presence of<br />

two witnesses as per specimen on page 57 of the prospectus<br />

Migration Policy<br />

Migration to <strong>KIMS</strong> is allowed and will be governed by the following rules and regulations:<br />

1. Migration is allowed only from a recognized public sector medical college and not from a private medical<br />

college.<br />

2. Mutual migration is not allowed.<br />

3. Migration will be allowed only after the candidate has passed First Professional Examination in another<br />

medical college.<br />

4. Migration will be allowed only when a vacant seat is available in the total strength of the college as<br />

approved by Pakistan <strong>Medical</strong> and Dental Council.<br />

5. Migration will be allowed only when a vacant seat is available in the corresponding class.<br />

6. Migration will be allowed on merit among the applicants.<br />

7. Both the Principles of the concerned medical colleges must give no objection certificate prior to the final<br />

approval by the Vice Chancellor KMU.<br />

8. While allowing migration, the rules of PMDC must not be violated in any way.<br />

Aims of undergraduate MEDICAL EDUCATION<br />

General education objectives<br />

The general objective of the MBBS Curriculum is to prepare a general purpose community oriented doctor<br />

who be competent to deal with common health problems of the people on scientific basis and in<br />

accordance with the code of <strong>Medical</strong> Ethics prescribed by Pakistan <strong>Medical</strong> and Dental council and will be<br />

able to continue postgraduate <strong>Medical</strong> Education in the Specialty of his / her choice.<br />

Examinations<br />

Eligibility for Examination<br />

A student shall be eligible to appear in a professional examination if he / she fulfills the following conditions:<br />

1. Has passed all the medical subjects of the previous examination.<br />

2.<br />

Has undergone the specified period of theoretical and practical courses and clinical training including<br />

demonstrations for the said examination to the satisfaction of the Department concerned.<br />

3. No student is eligible for university examination without having attended at least 75% of the total of<br />

lectures, demonstrations, tutorials and practical / clinical work in both in-patients and out-patients<br />

separately, in that academic session.<br />

4. His / her name is submitted to the Controller of Examination by the Principal on clearance by the Head of<br />

Department / teacher concerned.<br />

5. Has satisfactorily undergone the prescribed courses in theory, practical and clinical work extended over a<br />

period of 03 years after passing 1<br />

6. Maximum of Four chances availed or un-availed will be allowed to a student to clear first Professional BDS<br />

Examination. If a students fails to pas first Professional BDS in stipulated four chances, his/her name will be struck o<br />

the college. He /she will be considered ineligible (to undertake BDS studies any where in the country.<br />

i. Any student who fails / is detained in a professional examination including part-I and part-II<br />

of 1 Professional, both in annual and supplementary in any subject(s) shall not be eligible<br />

for admission and promotion to the next higher class until he / she passes the failed<br />

subject as per procedure.<br />

ii. He / she shall undergo full course of studies ( both theory and practicals ) in the subject<br />

(s) in which he / she failed / detained with subsequent class and completes at least 75 %<br />

attendance.<br />

iii. There will be no provisional promotion in such cases. These students shall not be allowed<br />

to attend the next higher classes. Any attendance of such students marked in the higher<br />

class without promotion would be of no legal fact.<br />

10. Any student who fails in any medical subject (s) of 1 Professional part-I or Part-II examination and does<br />

not avail two consecutive chances will have to clear all the subjects in the subsequent chance. However,<br />

there is no bar on the number of chances in 2 , 3 and 4 Professional examinations.<br />

11. A student who fails in one or more subject shall re appear in the subject(s) in which he / she has failed<br />

and shall pay the requisite fee for the said examination to the KMU.<br />

12. A student, who is eligible to appear in the examination but did not take examination for whatever reason,<br />

shall be considered to have failed.<br />

Eligibility for Examination<br />

14. Under no circumstances, a candidate is allowed to appear in two Professional examinations in one<br />

academic year.<br />

15. A student who has passed his / her MBBS/BDS examination shall be entitled to the degree of Bachelor of<br />

Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) & Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the KMU provided that he / she<br />

has conformed to the requirements, in vogue, of Pakistan <strong>Medical</strong> and dental Council which may be changed<br />

from time to time.<br />

16.<br />

A student who discontinued his / her studies for a period of 5 years or more will not be allowed<br />

readmission. If he / she wants readmission before that period he / she will be allowed to continue his / her<br />

studies from the class he / she left. However, the validity of an examination will be for 03 years. After 03<br />

The Principal will not forward the examination form of any student unless he /she produce clearance<br />

certificate from the college cashier, hostel warden and the college librarian.<br />

Rules for Examinations of MBBS/BDS Students<br />

1. All professional examinations are conducted as per PMDC rules and regulations.<br />

Internal evaluation is carried out in all professional examination according in guidance from PMDC rules & regulations<br />

and as a whole 10% marks are reserved for it, both in theory and practical in each subject.<br />

A comprehensive annual university examination in all subjects, in all professionals is conducted at the end<br />

of each academic year.<br />

4. The minimum passing marks in each subject shall be 50% separately, both in theory and practical.<br />

5.<br />

A student who fails in theory or practical examination of a subject, shall be considered to have failed in the<br />

subject and will have to reappear both in theory and practical.<br />

6. In each subject 50% marks are reserved for theory and 50% for practical / oral examination except BDS final year<br />

Professional examination.<br />

7. Each theory paper shall consist of MCQs and short essay questions at the ratio of 50% of the total<br />

marks each after subtracting the marks reserved for internal evaluation from the total marks.<br />

8. Preparatory holidays shall be one month for 1 st Professional Part-I, Part-II, 2 nd and 3 rd Professional MBBS/BDS<br />

All the students must pay their fees within one month after the declaration of their result of that class.<br />

Those who fail to deposit fees within the stipulated period, a fine as prescribed from time to time will be<br />

charged in addition to the college fee and other subscription.<br />

2. Fines once levied will not be condoned.<br />

At the end of one month period, if the fees are not paid in full, the name of defaulter will be struck off the<br />

college role and readmission will only be given after payment of readmission fee in addition to the original<br />

fee and other subscriptions.<br />

The student who is detained or has failed an examination in both annual / supplementary shall have to pay<br />

50% of tuition fee only in the class in which he / she has failed except final year.<br />

All those students who have passed / failed in supplementary examination must seek their admission /<br />

readmission forth with just after the declaration of the result of their classes. All those students who failed<br />

to comply with the above rule will not be allowed to attend the classes or appear in the subsequent<br />

examination.<br />

Payment of Fee for MBBS/BDS students<br />

6. Fee once paid shall not be refunded, but in the case of student who was prevented by illness or other<br />

reasons beyond his / her control from attending the college for most of the year for which he / she may be<br />

exempted from payment of the whole or part of amount of fee for the year in which such a student re-joins<br />

the college.<br />

7. The name of a student, who has not paid / cleared all the dues of the college, will not be entered in the<br />

admission register, nor will he / she be allowed to attend the classes or appear in the examination.<br />

8. If the security deposit is not claimed within a period of six months of the date of leaving the college, then it<br />

shall not be refundable and will be credited to the benevolent fund maintained by the college for its<br />

students.<br />

Rules for Refund of Fee for fresh entry<br />

1. In case of students already registered with KMU, registration fee and other fee will be charged as per<br />

prospectus. However, the earlier deposited registration fee, if any, will be refunded / adjusted. The original<br />

registration number will remain intact.<br />

2. If a student wants to cancel his / her admission, then refund of fee shall be made on the submission of<br />

written application on a judicial paper worth Rs. 15/-, duly attested by oath commissioner as per following<br />

details.<br />

I. Full registration fee and only half of the admission fee will be retained and rest of the fee<br />

[all subscriptions shown earlier in the fee structure] will be refunded if admission is<br />

cancelled before the start of classes.<br />

ii. 95% of total fee (excluding registration fee) will be refunded if admission is cancelled with<br />

in 07 days after the start of classes.<br />

iii. 80% of total fee (excluding registration fee) will be refunded if admission is cancelled with<br />

in 15 days after the start of classes.<br />

iv. 80% of total fee (excluding registration fee) will be refunded if admission is cancelled with<br />

in 21 days after the start of classes.<br />

v. No refund is allowed after 21 days of the start of classes.<br />

Note: Counting of days will be done from the official notification for the start of classes and from the day the<br />

Scholarships, Financial Assistance and Awards for MBBS/BDS students<br />

The Administration of <strong>Khyber</strong> <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>University</strong> Peshawar has been making every possible<br />

effort to help solve the monetary problems of its students by tapping the potential resources and<br />

providing various scholarships and concessions to the deserving students both on merit as well as poverty<br />

basis. The following Categories of scholarship are made available.<br />

first attempt.<br />

A student admitted in the college will be governed by the rules and regulation of the college / university, presently<br />

enforced or framed hereafter from time to time by institute / university.<br />

Every student must realize that the duty of the authorities of the <strong>Medical</strong> institute is to impart medical education<br />

to him / her and conduct College and <strong>University</strong> examination according to statutes as laid down in university<br />

ordinances for various MBBS/BDS examination and according to regulations of the Pakistan <strong>Medical</strong> & Dental Council<br />

and also to maintain discipline and run the administration of the Institute.<br />

Discipline<br />

1. Every student must, therefore, accept unconditionally the ordinance of the KMU,<br />

recommendations of Pakistan <strong>Medical</strong> & Dental Council and provisions made in this<br />

prospectus including any amendment to be made thereafter. All these have been evolved<br />

for the purpose of imparting a sound medical education to the students.<br />

2. All serious acts of misconduct, indiscipline and moral turpitude committed by the students<br />

will be dealt with by the institute disciplinary committee.<br />

3. In dealing with any breach of discipline, infringement of the rules and regulations<br />

mentioned in this prospectus, the Principal may decide to order appropriate penalty<br />

including apology, verbal and / or written, withdrawal of scholarship, temporary suspension<br />

from the Institute, removal from the hostel, expulsion from the Institute and rustication. If<br />

rustication from the Institute is required, the case will be placed before the Institute Faculty<br />

Council whose decision will be sent to Vice Chancellor. The decision of the Vice Chancellor<br />

KMU will be final.<br />

4. To maintain strict standard of discipline on the premises, the proctorial board plays a major<br />

role. The board is constituted by Principal, headed by the Chief Proctor and it comprises a<br />

number of teacher and student proctors. The main duty of the proctorial board is to<br />

maintain discipline on the Institute campus in official and social gathering and wherever it is<br />

required. The students are expected to achieve a high standard of self discipline on the<br />

Institute campus.<br />

5. With regard to disciplines the following rules are to be strictly observed.<br />

a. Smoking is forbidden on the Institute and hospital premises.<br />

b. Possession of arms, explosive and other weapons are strictly prohibited.<br />

c. Pasting of stickers, posters and writing of slogans on the walls and display of banners<br />

on the Institute and hospital premises is prohibited.<br />

d. No student is allowed to disfigure or damage the Institute/hospital property.<br />

e. Possession of intoxicating substances such as alcohol and opium products and other<br />

substances of poisonous nature is strictly prohibited.<br />

f. No student is allowed to use abusive and humiliating language and no fighting and<br />

physical assault shall be tolerated.<br />

g. All irregularities, negligence of duties and breach of discipline and actions taken are<br />

to be brought to the notice of the Principal by the teacher under whom the student is<br />

working.<br />

h. Students are required to observe order and maintain tranquility at all times in the<br />

Institute and hospital premises. Students are forbidden to sign whistle, create noise or<br />

indulge in any indecent behaviour or activity in the Institute and hospital premises<br />

during or after the working hours.<br />

i. Students are strictly forbidden to bring any outsider to the Institute.<br />

Discipline<br />

j. Any student, breaking or damaging any Institute or hospital property shall be required<br />

to pay the cost of repair or replacement. In case of willful damage he / she shall be<br />

punished as the Principal may deem appropriate.<br />

k. Students are forbidden to address any member or person in authority directly. Any<br />

communication intended for such higher authority must be submitted through the<br />

principal who will forward it if he considers it desirable.<br />

l. Any student desirous of addressing the Principal by letter must do so separately. Joint<br />

applications are entirely prohibited and will not receive any attention.<br />

Leave Rules<br />

Discipline<br />

m. Any student wishing to make a representation on any subject has the right of direct<br />

access to the Principal at any time during Institute hours by previous appointment.<br />

n. Parents / Guardians are expected to co-operate with the authorities of the Institute by<br />

prevailing upon their wards not to take any part in anti-institutional activities.<br />

o. If a student of the Institute takes part in any political activities or conducts himself /<br />

herself in an unbecoming manner or in such manner as would interfere with the<br />

corporate life or educational work of the Institute, the Principal may take any action he<br />

deems proper or bring him / her before the disciplinary committee for proper action.<br />

p. It is desirable for medical students to engage themselves to reasonable extent in<br />

wholesome extra curricular activities such as sports and literary pursuits during leisure<br />

in order that they may not become too narrowly professional in interest and outlook.<br />

q. No person shall be invited to address a meeting or society in the Institute premises<br />

without prior permission of the Principal. In all cases, the chair shall be occupied by a<br />

responsible person approved for the purpose by the Principal. The subject of debate<br />

shall be fixed after obtaining the approval of the Principal in advance.<br />

r. No student shall address a Press Conference, nor write to the press on the political or<br />

related subject or matters concerned directly with the administration of the Institute /<br />

<strong>University</strong>. No poster or banners shall be put up without the approval of the Principal.<br />

s. No student of the Institute shall be permitted to have any connection with a private<br />

dispensary or a consulting room to pose or work as a medical practitioner.<br />

t. No society may be set up by the students nor any meeting held in the Institute<br />

premises without the written permission of the Principal.<br />

u. All kinds of tours should be arranged in vacations / holidays.<br />

v. Students have to be present in time at any specified activity of the Institute.<br />

w. At the beginning of the Institute year the students of each class elect a representative<br />

who is supposed to speak on behalf of the class in all matters concerning the<br />

student_s community. The representative can be asked to represent his / her class to<br />

teachers and in committee meetings.<br />

a. Every student shall be required to attend at least 75% of the lecturers, seminars, tutorials,<br />

practical and clinical of each subject in each class failing which his / her name shall not be<br />

forwarded to the controller of examination for purpose of appearing in the KMU<br />

examination. It applies also to students who are readmitted after failing in annual and<br />

supplementary examination.<br />

b. Clinical students (third, fourth and final year) shall be required to do hospital work during<br />

the vacation if necessary.<br />

Discipline<br />

c. The margin of twenty-five percent of absence in theoretical lectures, practical classes and<br />

demonstrations and in-hospital practice is intended to cover absence only on account of<br />

sickness or special emergency considered justifiable by the Principal.<br />

d. A written application shall be sent to the Principal by the student or his / her parent /<br />

guardian, well in time reporting his / her illness.<br />

e. Sick leave for more than three days will be sanctioned only on production of a valid<br />

medical certificate.<br />

f. Any kind of leave other than sick leave, exceeding three days shall be granted only when<br />

the application is attested by the parent or guardian.<br />

g. All kinds of leave upto five days will be granted by the Vice Principal (Admin) and beyond<br />

five days by the Principal <strong>KIMS</strong>.<br />

h. In all cases, leave taken, will be at student_s own risk as for as percentage of attendance is<br />

concerned. Even medical certificate will not condone a deficiency in attendance. Sick leave<br />

even sanctioned on medical certificate leading to absence in an examination will mean<br />

failure in that examination.<br />

i. Every student is required to attend punctually at the hours notified for lectures,<br />

demonstrations, seminars, tutorial classes, practical and hospital wards.<br />

j. No student is allowed to leave the lecture room, practical class or a hospital ward without<br />

the permission of his / her teacher or until the class is dismissed.<br />

k. All the students should keep their ID card / chest card on their chest pocket of overall.<br />

Students will not be allowed to attend the class without chest card. Duplicate ID card will<br />

be issued on payment of Rs.150/-.<br />

l. The name of the student who is absent without leave continuously for a period of four<br />

weeks will be struck off the Institute roll. The decision shall need the approval of the Vice<br />

Chancellor.<br />

m. Students absenting themselves from Institute or hospital work shall be liable to a fine<br />

imposed by the Principal.<br />

n. Continuous absence by a scholarship holder will be reported to the sanctioning department<br />

for the cancellation of scholarship.<br />

o. Students are not permitted to remain in the lecture room except at the prescribed hours of<br />

lectures.<br />

p. All sick students should report to the teaching hospital of the Institute before attending any<br />

other clinic. The Doctor_s advice etc. has to be submitted to the Institute office.<br />

q. Late comers may be marked absent<br />

r. Students should keep the class room / Laboratory / ward, clean.<br />

Dress Code<br />

MOBILE PHONE USE<br />

Discipline<br />

Students are expected to appear in decent and sober outlook. To achieve this, the following will be the<br />

dress code. It must be followed by all students during lectures, practicals, tutorials, seminars, outdoor and<br />

indoor hospital duty and in all Institute functions.<br />

Uniform is compulsory whenever the student visits the Institute either taking classes or not.<br />

The students must wear white coat while attending laboratories, dissection hall and hospital.<br />

Female Student’s Dress Code<br />

White / maroon color shirt, white shalwar, white dupatta / Shaal, Black shoes and white long overall upto<br />

knee length.<br />

Male student’s Dress Code<br />

Dress Shirt - Dress Pants - Court Shoes.<br />

Shalwar Qamiz - Peshawari Chappal. White Coat / Overall where demanded<br />

Strapless Footwear - Kito Style Footwear will be strictly prohibited.<br />

Use of mobile phone during working for students in the classes, practicals and other teaching activities is<br />

strictly prohibited. Mobile set with camera is strictly forbidden all the time, If found will be confiscated.<br />

Provision of accommodation is a privilege and not a matter of right. Authorities may refuse accommodation to<br />

any applicant if the accommodation is not available or the conduct of resident is not satisfactory.<br />

Students must read carefully and follow the hostel rules given in the prospectus.<br />

1 The KMU authorities are not responsible to provide accommodation to all students. The<br />

available accommodation will be given on merit basis.<br />

2 Students seeking admission in hostel shall apply for a seat on the prescribed form<br />

available from the Institute office.<br />

3 Seats shall be allotted by the Vice principal in accordance with the KMU rules subject to<br />

availability of accommodation.<br />

4 Hostel dues must be paid in time. No student will be allowed to appear in Any Professional<br />

Examination unless he / she have paid all the hostel dues.<br />

5 Students who are accommodated in the hostels that are acquired on temporary basis, shall<br />

be supervised by the warden who will be under the direct control of the Principal <strong>KIMS</strong>.<br />

Duties of the Warden<br />

a- The warden shall be appointed by the Principal <strong>KIMS</strong> preferably from amongst the lecturers<br />

of the Institute.<br />

b- All matters requiring approval, attention or advice of the Institute administration, relating to<br />

discipline or change of conditions in the hostel or any deficiency shall be reported to the<br />

Principal by the Warden.<br />

c- The warden shall make the admission of the students on the prescribed form and will<br />

maintain complete record of the students and issue hostel leaving certificate to a resident<br />

student after clearance.<br />

d- Warden shall make a Food Committee of resident students, out of home one will perform<br />

the duties of Senior-Food Monitor.<br />

e- The Warden in consultation with the Principal will deal with all the cases of indiscipline or<br />

breach of regulations and other matters relating to hostel affairs.<br />

f- The Warden shall supervise the activities if any, of washerman, tuck shop and mess<br />

contractors and ensure payment of dues by them to the account branch before 10th of<br />

each month.<br />

g- The Warden will not stay out of hostel during night without prior permission of the Principal<br />

<strong>KIMS</strong>.<br />

h- The Warden will be responsible for the safety of hostel property for which he / she will<br />

maintain complete and accountable record.<br />

Hostel Rules and Regulations<br />

i. The Warden shall physically verify the presence of students in their allotted rooms and<br />

report the stay of outsider in the hostels to the Principal.<br />

j- The Warden shall check and report the water, electricity and gas problems of hostels and<br />

communicate these to the Principal.<br />

k- The Warden shall check the cleanliness inside and outside the hostel premises & shall look<br />

after the Common Room and indoor games of the hostel.<br />

l. The Warden shall perform any other duty assigned by the Principal <strong>KIMS</strong>.<br />

m. Position, use of arms, narcotic drugs, alcohol or committing any indecent / immoral act in<br />

the hostel shall entail expulsion from hostel and any other punitive measure deemed<br />

necessary by the authorities.<br />

Hostel Accommodation / Allotment<br />

a- Passport size photo to be affixed on the hostel admission form.<br />

b- Only those students, who are on the roll of the <strong>KIMS</strong> may be allowed admission in the<br />

hostel.<br />

c- Students will not be allowed to stay in hostel once they appear in the final Professional<br />

MBBS/BDS examination. However, the failed students who will appear in the supplementary<br />

examination may formally request for allotment of seat in hostel. The seat may be allotted<br />

subject to availability and on payment of full proportional hostel charges such as electricity,<br />

room rent, gas charges and other hostel charges as per rule.<br />

d- Students seeking admission in hostel shall apply for a seat to Provost on the prescribed<br />

form.<br />

e- Once the seat is allotted to a student, he / she shall come under the disciplinary<br />

supervision of the hostel management.<br />

f- The Principal has the right to refuse admission in the hostel to student whose past record<br />

in the hostel has not been satisfactory.<br />

g- A student who gets admission in the hostel shall occupy his/her room within seven days. A<br />

student who fails to turn up within this period will forfeit the right of admission.<br />

h- No student will be allowed to change the room once allotted to him / her except with prior<br />

permission of the Warden.<br />

i- No student will be allowed to keep extra furniture of the hostel.<br />

j- No student will be allowed to change hostel except with permission of the Provost /<br />

Principal.<br />

k- Private food arrangement within the room is not allowed.<br />

Every student and the parent / guardian of the students shall give the following undertaking after confirmation of<br />

their admission.<br />

correct, and I fully understand that at any time during the course of my study, if it is found<br />

that any information is in-correct or any document produced at the time of admission is<br />

false, which would have rendered me ineligible for admission under the rules, my name<br />

shall immediately be struck off the institute roll.<br />

iii) That I shall, in case my name is struck off under clause (ii) above, not be entitled to claim<br />

refund of any fee paid by me. In addition I shall pay to the Principal as liquidated damages<br />

at the rate of Rs. 1,00,000 (one Lac) per year of my studies in <strong>KIMS</strong>.<br />

iv) That I shall, have minimum attendance of 75 percent, diligently apply myself to acquire and<br />

develop the skill necessary for the practice and advancement of my study in order to<br />

qualify for examination and I will not be promoted to the next higher class unless I have<br />

cleared all the subjects.<br />

v) That I shall maintain identity as a student of the institute by wearing Institute uniform. I shall<br />

participate fully and whole heartedly in games and extra curricular activities.<br />

vi) That hostel accommodation will be provided subject to availability, in case of nonavailability<br />

of hostel accommodation, I will not ask for any accommodation.<br />

vii) That I will not indulge in politics of any type and will not be a member of any political party<br />

/ organization / students Federation, holding a gathering, meeting or taking out procession<br />

in any part of Campus. I understand that my failure to observe this clause of undertaking<br />

would result in cancellation of my admission / expulsion from the Institute, and that the<br />

decision of the authorities concerned will be final.<br />

viii) That I shall never use violence, threat of violence and pressure in any dispute with others,<br />

all means and methods shall only be logic, persuasion, petition, appeal, revision, review<br />

and other legal and peaceful method for settlement of differences and disputes.<br />

ix) That in any dispute with students, teachers and employees of the institute I shall accept the<br />

judgment of the committee constituted by the principal for decision of settlement of the<br />

wrong doers.<br />

x) Further, I do hereby solemnly undertake to refrain from:-<br />

a) Doing anything which may cause injury or insult to head, teacher, officers and other staff of<br />

institution.<br />

b) Holding a gathering, meeting and taking out procession in any part of Campus other than<br />

areas specified for the purpose.<br />

c) All kinds of unfair means in examination.<br />

d) Allowing or abetting the entry to the premises of the Institute of expelled students, antisocial<br />

elements or others whose presence in the Campus could cause conflict amongst the<br />

students.<br />

e) Bringing into the Campus, consuming or encouraging consumption of alcoholic products,<br />

drugs and narcotics and indulging in acts of moral turpitude.<br />

f) Bringing or keeping any type of weapons within the <strong>University</strong> / Institute premises.<br />

g) Using or occupying any room or part of any building of the Institution without lawful<br />

authority.<br />

h) Subletting any hostel room to unauthorized persons.<br />

i) Damaging any <strong>University</strong> / Institute property including building, equipment and vehicles etc.<br />

in any manner.<br />

j) Indulging in any violent or any other unsuitable activities even outside the Institute, which<br />

may bring bad name to the Institute.<br />

k) From all such acts and deeds as might bring disgrace and bad name to the Institute.<br />

xi) In case I am reported to be guilty / involved in any of the aforesaid activities during my<br />

stay in the medical Institute, the Institute authorities can rusticate me from the Institute<br />

temporarily or expel me permanently. I will not try to create law and order situation or<br />

instigate the students of the Institute or of any other institution against the action taken by<br />

the institute and further more I will not go to any Court of Law in this regard. In case of my<br />

expulsion from Institute I shall pay to the Principal as liquidated damages at the rate of Rs.<br />

1,00,000 (one Lac) per year of my study in the Institute.<br />

xii) If it is reported that I have not honoured the decision of the Institute authorities as<br />

described above, I shall be liable to pay Rs. 2,00,000/- (Two Lac) per year of my study in<br />

the Institute as damages to the KMU<br />

xiii) In case there is any dispute between me on one hand and the administration of the<br />

Institute on the other hand regarding my involvement in a disciplinary or political<br />

matter or regarding the imposition of any penalty or damages on me, the matter shall be<br />

referred to the Principal, as the sole arbitrator and his decision in such capacity shall be<br />

final and shall not be challenged in any court of law.<br />

xiv) I will abide by the decision of the Institute Authorities. In case I am found guilty of<br />

indiscipline, defamation, disrespect of the Staff and other anti-institutional activities, I will<br />

abide by the rules and decisions regarding the house job.<br />

xv) I understand that if it is found that I was not entitled for admission according to the <strong>KIMS</strong><br />

<strong>Prospectus</strong> KMU Institute of <strong>Medical</strong> Sciences <strong>2012</strong>-13<br />

be liable to a penalty of Rs. 400,000/- (Three Hundred Thousand) for wasting a precious seat. The original<br />
