EPSA-IPSF Joint Campaign Mental Health Awareness Campaign “Never give up on someone with a mental illness. When “I” is replaced by “We”, illness becomes wellness.” ― Shannon L. Alder Public health campaigns are focusing on educating the general public on how we can prevent and deal with any disease. Also, through different activities, we promote health and awareness at every possible level. Mental Health Awareness Campaign, a joint project between EPSA and International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF) started last year, having the “Stress release activities” as the main subtopic. This year, we will focus on “Depression” and how we can fight its stigmata. Depression is described by many scientists as a mental disorder that is characterised by several symptoms that can affect person’s thoughts, behavior, lifestyle, feelings and the general well-being. In collaboration with IPSF, we will prepare different activities related to this topic that will be developed in a week between 9th and 15th May. A special highlight will be a webinar that will focus on how a pharmacist can counsel a patient suffering from depression. Furthermore, we prepared well-informed and creative materials that will bring even more attention to this topic. The main aims of this public health campaign are to: • Inform the general public about depression; • Emphasize that it is a real disease; • Share the ways of preventing the depression; • Inform how we can fight the stigmata; • Evaluate the role of the pharmacy/pharmacists in this health matter. Mental Health Awareness Campaign will be carried out on different social platforms where we will share our materials and facts about depression but we strongly encourage our members to conduct this public health campaign on the local level too, in order to increase its impact and to reach as many people as possible.
