PAGE 4 THE SOUTHWESTERN CO MMUNIQUÉ’ OCTOBER-DECEMBER 2016 SwCC Ministers, Elders, and Deacons Reunion at SwCC’s Lectureship November 20-24, 2016 The Administration and Staff of Southwestern Christian College invites ALL ministers, elders, deacons, youth and evangelism ministers, all those who have been invited to speak during the upcoming Lectureship (to be held the week of Nov. 20-24, 2016), and all who, at any time, attended the college, to a VERY SPECIAL REUNION. Since the college’s beginning in Terrell in 1949, there has never been a reunion like this one, which includes national and international servants of Christ!!! A special book of sermonic messages emphasizing the theme of our lectureship (now revised to “By God’s Grace: Standing Stronger—Our Unforgettable Past, Unshakable Present, and Unprecedented future”) will be printed and made available to you and to the entire brotherhood. All those who plan to attend the Lectureship are urged to send their “best sermon” on the subject of grace, or any aspect of our theme to Vice President James Maxwell. All submissions of these sermons sent to the college must be in manuscript form, and must be accompanied by a brief biography and a good photo. The deadline for the aforementioned items is October 28, 2016. Special reunion activities will begin at 9:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, and will continue until 11:30 a.m. At 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. there will be a special photo session, at which time photos taken will include those with an emphasis on groups and special interest. There are also other special activities being planned for this date that will be revealed in other media forms. OCTOBER-DECEMBER 2016 THE SOUTHWESTERN CO MMUNIQUÉ’ PAGE 5 One Year, Two Million Dollar Campaign November 2016 to November 2017 By Dr. Shelton Gibbs, III Present Financial Challenge: In order to meet immediate pressing obligations and financially prepare our college for future unprecedented and expectant growth it is vital that we seriously consider the One Year, Two Million Dollar Campaign. Targeted Group: Individuals, Churches, Specific Donors 1000 individuals giving $1,000 $1,000,000.00 100 Alumni giving $2,000 $ 200,000.00 Guardian Plan (100 congregations, five year commitment) $ 800,000.00 All our auxiliary support groups, National Dinner Day, and Bowser Associated Women, promote the designated plan. They will be asked to continue their various innovative ways of raising funds, along with adopting the $2,000,000.00 Campaign. REVENUE THROUGH STUDENT RECRUITMENT 300 STUDENTS BY 2018 An educational non-profit organization should be able to facilitate its operational expenses from the revenue generated by its students and its qualifying government subsidies. Intentions: Method: Increase our Full-time Student Enrollment (FTE) from 150 to 300 by Fall 2017 and, subsequently, from 300 to 450 by Fall 2018. The FTE includes On-campus and Online students. Deployment of POPULI, our new Campus Management System that will enable us to: 1. Market, attract, enroll, and facilitate the expectations of the millennial technologically savvy and prepared student base in the oncampus and online environment. 2. Immensely expand and enhance our online educational offerings. 3. Reach out to capture, service request of, and electronically maintain contact with former students, alumni and constituents of the institution. Benefits: Upon securing a FTE base of 300 students, in addition to the doubling of the tuition and fees revenue generated, we will also re-secure the Title III government grant of $500,000 per year based on enrollment. Upon achieving an FTE of 450 students, the institution will receive $1,000,000 per year from the Title III enrollment based grant. Evans-Foster-Maxwell SwCC Scholarship Drive Two Hundred Fifty Scholarships Planned for 2016-2017 By Dr. James Maxwell Dr. Jack Evans, President Emeritus, Dr. Ben Foster, VP for Student Affairs, and Dr. James Maxwell, VP for Institutional Expansion, have committed themselves to give of their time and finances to launch a brotherhood initiative to provide 250 scholarships to assist prospective students to attend Southwestern Christian College, and current students to continue as students. When we reach our goal of 250 scholarships, the college will increase in enrollment from 150 students to 300 or more between 2016 and 2017. Unfortunately, most of our students are not financially able to attend the college, even many who want to major in ministry. Most of our Christian colleges have millions of dollars in scholarships, but SwCC has only a few thousand dollars for scholarships. Most of our Christian colleges’ total student costs are thousands of dollars more than SwCC’s total student costs. SwCC’s tuition, room, board and fees for one full-time student is $6,481.94 per semester, and $12,963.88 per year. Even the Pell Grant covers less than half the amount students need for two semesters. Dr. Evans, Dr. Ben Foster, and Dr. James Maxwell, are giving $5,000 ($1,667 each) to activate the scholarship fund. The Administration, faculty and staff are encouraged to give sacrificially to this inspiring initiative. For those who decide to help us reach our goal, there are several ways of approaching the type of scholarships for SwCC. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ You may personally form a scholarship in your name or include other donors. You may structure your scholarship as a memorial for relatives or friends. You may give a lump sum to cover several years. Or you may give enough to cover one to five years. ♦ Also, you may provide suggestions as to whom and how the funds will be distributed.
