MASTER PROGRAM IN EDUCATION AND RESEACH FOR
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
In November 2012, the Faculty of Social Sciences (FMijW) of the Anton de Kom
Universiteit van Suriname (AdeKUS) will enroll the 3 rd cohort of students for the
Masters of Science programme in ‘Education and Research for Sustainable
Development (MERSD)’. This programme is organized in collaboration with the
Flemish Universities (Belgium). Teaching is in English (depending on the background
of the students) and a maximum of 30 students are selected yearly.
Invitation
On Saturday 9 th of June 10:00am we will have an information session in the college
room of building 6.14 at the Anton de Kom University. You are hereby invited!
The Master of Science programme supports academic research in four themes:
community development, civil participation, poverty alleviation and
entrepreneurship.

Course programme
The courses offered in the MERSD can also be consulted at the website. The course
will start on the first of November 2012 and runs four days* a week, Monday till
Thursday, from 16.00 – 20.00 hour (* depending upon the course five days a week).
Admission requirements
Applicants should have a BSc degree obtained from the Anton de Kom Universiteit
van Suriname or equivalent. Other requirements can be viewed on the website.
Registration is now open:
Candidates for the MSc programme in MERSD should submit their application to the
office of the program coordinator. This application should include:
1. The application form (download this from the website)
2. Copy of records of all courses in the BSc program including diploma
3. A short essay in English (max. one A4) about the motivation to enroll in the MSc
program MERSD and about the professional expectations upon graduation
4. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

5. Letter of recommendation from employer (if applicable for you and only for
persons who are working).
Applications
All applications should be received in a hardcopy format before 27 th of July 2012 (till
12.00 hr) at the office mentioned below. Each application will be reviewed on an
individual basis. Around the 3 rd of September 2012, the candidate will receive a
notification of acceptance or rejection. Selected candidates will be invited for the
final registration in September 2012.

Registration and tuition fees
The annual registration has to be fulfilled in the first and/or second week of
September 2012. The annual admission/tuition fee is US$1,000.00 (admission fee of
SRD 625,00 is included).
