Interview: Monthly winner, Photographer Enrico Burani (Italy)
Tell us something about yourself
I’m not a professional photographer if you mean for pro to get
money for living. My job is in software field.
But I spent all my free time in photography because it is my
biggest passion.
How and when did you get into photography?
I started very young as assistant of some photographers but in
my university course I took an other direction choosing
business studies. Considering my age of 52, I grew up with
analogic photography and then I converted my skills in digital.
My first camera was the Minolta srT 101 that I still have with
me.
What does photography mean to you?
It is a way to express myself and to be in some way artistic
since I don’t have any artistic talent such as painting, singing,
music etc. I think everyone needs to feed booth brain side:
creative and pragmatic.
Please briefly describe your photography style
Actually, portrait is my main field. The style is a mix of taking
the picture and then making a good postproduction in
Photoshop. Nowadays, it’s important to manage well Photoshop,
it’s absolutely not possible to not consider it any more.
So we can say that digital seems easer than analogic, but it is
not true.
Think you in advance what you want in the picture?
Photography is a combination of premeditation and occasion.
A good photographer is able to make a creative set and to recognize
opportunities. Anyway, I’m sure that the final combination
belongs more to the photographer’s subjectivity, so I
want my interpretation of the person I shoot. That’s all.
Studio, on location or both?
Mostly in studio but in location too.
Would you consider yourself a paid professional?
Hobbyist as said before.
And I prefer talking about passion rather than a hobby.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
The most memorable set was in June 2016, with 4 models all
together and two Make-Up Artists.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new
photographer looking to start their own business?
I would suggest young photographers to never stop studying
and to do a lot of practice. Photography has a more less easy
technique and for that, it’s a very democratic art. Nevertheless,
photographers who settle for the first good results
never reach optimum levels.
What do you think of our new magazine?
Modellenland is an excellent way to put in
contact photographers and models from all
over the world in order to enlarge their
own horizons.
