HEADMASTER’S UPDATE
Last year I wrote of the
excitement caused by
having the Archbishop of
Canterbury to open Kirby
House. This year our top visitor
will be an OL.
I am delighted to say that
General Sir Richard Dannatt
KCB CBE MC ADC Gen, Chief
of the General Staff has agreed
to be guest of honour
and speaker at Speech
Day. It is always good to
get a nationally known
figure for Speech Day
and certainly General Sir
Richard is that. It is a
real bonus when that
figure is also one of your
ex-students. I am sure
he will be a worthy guest
of honour on May 23rd.
I believe this has been
a very significant year
for the OLs and I am
increasingly optimistic
about the future of the Society.
The annual dinner was a very
lively event and it was so good
to see so many OLs back in
College. There was a wide age
range there but it was
particularly good to see those
who has been coached by Bill
Williams. There were many
stories to be swapped but I was
surprised by just how many
tries his sides must have scored
and how many captains they
had as well. The tries seemed
to increase in complexity and
beauty as the evening wore on!
I encourage you to come back
to these dinners as they are
very good events with high
quality catering and, of
course, the best of
company.
I would be happy to
come and speak at a
‘get together’ of OLs
either at a dinner or a
less formal event.
Why not arrange one
in your area or for your
era? Alternatively, the
school would always
host one for you if
there was a particular
group who wanted to
meet up.
Along those lines, I thoroughly
enjoyed meeting those who
came back to celebrate 30
years of Bellerby Girls.
Looking back, last term was
one of the best for many years.
From a sporting point of view,
the girls played some very good
hockey and won a good number
