OL GIRLS’ 30TH BIRTHDAY PARTY
Former Bellerby boarders celebrate 30 years of Bellerby
with current students
Eight of us who were
amongst the first ever
Bellerby girls were
reunited at the College in June.
Twenty-eight years melted
away as Dr Gill, who had been
new to the school in our time,
took us on a tour assisted by
current Bellerby girls.
Because their uniform was the
same black and white kilts as in
our day, we would only have
had to borrow some to blend
seamlessly into the background,
as if transported in a time
machine.
Oh to swap with those sixth
formers for a few weeks and
escape back into a world of
camaraderie, unpressured by
job and family responsibilities.
I realised what an excellent
example of a close knit boarding
community we Bellerby girls
had been.
The passage of some three
decades only served to confirm
what we had known about each

others’ characters when we
were still in our teens. Those
aspects of our personalities that
had stood out at the time had
served us well in later life, such
that the paths we had each
taken and our outlooks on life
came as no surprise to each
other.
Clair Brown had done a
fabulous job in hunting through
the archives to put together a
display of photographs from our
time at the College.
Huge enjoyment was had in
reading the Bellerby journal, in
which each head girl records
house events.
It was astonishing to remember
OLs Anna
Shearer and Clair Brown
how much we had fitted into our
days.
I know I speak for all of us in
thanking the College for hosting
the event.
