Pet of
the Week!
The ballots are in our
hands. Our individual
vote may not influence
the national situation
very much but what we
do locally does affect us.
Some candidates have
demonstrated their qualifications
and fitness to
be re-elected and others
to be elected. My personal
recommendations
are:
Joel Kretz continues to
demonstrate leadership
and good judgment in
his support and pursuit
of the interests of the citizens
of NE Washington.
He is well respected by
his constituents here and
his colleagues in Olympia.
Shelly Short continues
to work hard to represent
us and does a good job.
She is knowledgeable
and effective in advocating
for this district. Lets
keep her in this position.
Wes McCart and Steve
Parker work hard to
make our county government
work. They
are both fiscally conservative
and I sometimes
battle with them, but
they do their best to get
the job done. We should
keep them both.
Leslie Valz is the new
Treasurer appointed by
the Commissioners. She
works hard and is doing
well in the job. Her previous
work in the courthouse
environment helps
her know how things
work. She is capable and
effective.
Patrick Monasmith is
also doing a good job.
He makes good judicial
decisions and does not
tolerate much nonsense
in the courtroom. We
should keep him on the
Superior Court bench.
Jessie Taylor should be
elected. She is experienced
in the judicial role
and is very capable. She
is detail-oriented and has
an excellent work ethic.
She has good judgment
and is honest. She will
make a good judge.
It is important that we
pay attention to the
makeup of the Supreme
Mike Blankenship works
hard for Ferry County
and supports many Stevens
County interests.
He should be re-elected
as Ferry County Commissioner.
Court. Greg Zempel
and Dave Larson should
be elected. They are
conservative, knowledgeable
and understand
the law. They will both
make good Justices.
SYNTHETIC
SWEETENERS –
GOOD OR BAD?
By Sylvia Allen,
Sago Naturals,
Chewelah, WA
Have you ever wondered
what Aspartame,
Equal or Nutra Sweet is
and how they affect the
body? They are household
names for synthetic or fake
sugars found on all restaurant
tables and hidden in a
variety of foods from soda
pop, sports drinks, desserts,
ice cream, cereal,
candy bars, chewing gum,
breath mints, to all sorts
of other processed foods,
especially dietetic and
diabetic foods and medicines.
They must be good
for your body because you
are avoiding real sugar
which causes tooth decay
and adds calories, right?—
Wrong!!
This low calorie sweetener
is really aspartyl phenylalanine
methyl ester,
although FDA approved,
plays real tricks once in
the body. One of the first
things the body metabolizes
this into is methanol
or methyl alcohol, which
turns into formaldehyde.
These are both direct brain
poisons and they need to
be detoxified. Not only
do they use up a lot of enzymes
like zinc-requiring
alcohol dehydrogenase
and molybdenum – requiring
aldehyde oxidase, but
also they put unnecessary
stress on the liver– the
body’s detoxification system.
By doing this you are
promoting the chemistry
that leads to the development
of cancer.
The enzyme phenylalanine
hydroxylase is
necessary in our bodies to
break down any phenylalanine.
If phenylalanine is
not properly metabolized
and attacks the brain, it
causes severe brain damage
with mental retardation,
convulsions as well
as protracted vomiting
and very bizarre behavior.
If one over-ingests
phenylalanine (hidden as
fake sweeteners) for years
and causes a deficiency
of the normal enzyme to
metabolize phenylalanine,
silent damage to the brain
can occur mimicking Alzheimer’s
symptoms, depression,
loss of intellect,
memory and much more.
You might think that
not many people are at
risk, but over 40% of the
children up to age 9 regularly
drink soft drinks containing
artificial sweeteners.
There are no studies
of the effect of the chronic
use of artificial sweeteners
containing phenylalanine
on the young developing
brain. Meanwhile,
over two-thirds of adults
use them, since they are
in over 9000 products. In
fact, the U.S. accounts for
83% of the World’s aspartame
consumption. Since
it can mimic so many diseases,
it is probably no coincidence
that we have the
highest per capita medical
expenses of any country
and not a longevity record
to be proud of.
ing force to reach for the
blue packet or the “sugar
free” canned beverage.
But studies have shown
that you cannot fool the
body. After a meal with
fake sugars, the body actually
craves more food, especially
sugar. Could this
be why over 1/3 of the U.S.
population is obese? First
the brain is a common target
organ with headaches,
convulsions, or epilepsy,
depression, insomnia,
hyperactivity, blurred vision,
memory loss, mood
swings, dizziness or ringing
in the ears. One can
also have stomach pain,
nausea, diarrhea or constipation.
As well, fatigue,
rashes, hives, heart palpitations,
bizarre numbness
and tingling are some of
the other common symptoms.
If you, or a family
member, suffer from these
symptoms – read every label
of anything that goes
into your mouth. Eliminate
all foods with fake
sugars for two months.
See what symptoms melt
away by this free test.
From Our Readers:
Why You Should Vote
Most agree that the upcoming Presidential election
will be the most important, and ugliest in our
lifetime. Both candidates have more baggage then
the airline industry.
For this reason many have decided not to vote,
or to vote for a candidate that has no chance of winning.
Throwing away your vote is neither wise or
noble. As Calvin Coolidge observed, “If the people
fail to vote, a government will be developed which
is not their government… Unless citizens perform
their duty, such a system of government is doomed
to failure.” Yet today half of all Christians are not
registered, and only half of those vote.
The simple fact is that one of these two will be
elected as our next President. The winner will not
only be our President for the next four years, but
most likely the next eight. Rarely do incumbents
lose. All we need to do is look at the last eight years
to realize how dramatic the effect can be.
To be honest, I am not sure that anyone can reverse
the direction our country is headed. Greed,
corruption and immoral behavior have become legalized,
normalized and institutionalized. As the
Lord told Jeremiah, “Can…a leopard change his
spots…can those who are accustomed to do evil,
do good?” (Jeremiah 13:23)
Regardless, the party platforms they support,
present vastly different agendas for the nations future.
They diametrically differ on the economy, the
military, international affairs and globalism. But
they also differ on issues that are of special concern
to Christians:
Marriage: Democrats support same-sex marriage.
Republicans “condemn the Supreme Court’s
ruling” and “urge its reversal” by court ruling or
constitutional amendment.
Abortion: Democrats will fight laws and policies
that impede abortion; even partial-birth abortion.
Republicans have presented the most pro-life
platform in the history of the Party.
Courts: Democrats “see the Constitution as a
living document, open to new & novel interpretations.
Republicans “support the appointment of
judges who respect and rule by the Constitution,
respect traditional family values and the sanctity
of human life.” The next President will appoint one
or more Supreme Court justices, determining the
direction of the courts and the nation for the next
25 years.
Religion: Democrats support “a progressive vision
of religious freedom,” criminalizing conscience
and prosecuting those who take moral stands based
upon the Bible. Republicans want to “bar government
discrimination against individuals and businesses
for acting on the belief that marriage is the
union of one man and one woman.”
Education: Democrats “will fight” to “improve
school climates” and advance the gay and transgender
agenda; and see schools are a place to change
society rather than educate children. Republicans
call out the Obama administration’s transgender
bathroom edict; denounce the liberal social agenda”
to reshape our schools to fit the mold of an ideology
alien to America’s history and traditions.”
It has been said that we get the government we deserve.
What is also true is that we will get the government
we choose on November 8th.
From Our Readers...
DOES YOUR VOTE COUNT – Part Two
How you can help ensure votes count as intended.
Begin by Googling “election/voter fraud,”
“black box voting,” and True the Vote. Three states
employ mail-in only voting. All other states have
freedom to choose poll sites vs. absentee ballots.
Ten years ago in Washington, proponents
pushed mail-in only ballots as faster and cheaper
than poll sites. Not true. Ballots printed in Seattle
are trucked to Spokane, then intensively processed
as ballots are returned. Each ballot is handled a
minimum of 10-12 times prior to actual counting
by the tabulator. Manual duplication of ballots is
slow and difficult to observe, but overhead projection
would be faster and easier for all to view.
Election Day in Washington is now Election
Season. One day of poll sites, timewise, vs. four
weeks of mail-in ballot processing – is this efficient?
If Spokane County condensed all processes
into a much shorter timeframe, security of ballots is
increased. “Early voting” lets parties know voting
trends, and abuse results from lots of money and
power trying to control election outcomes.
Become an election observer! Washington law
provides for election observers from political parties.
Observers are the “eyes” on this governmental
responsibility. Stalin, paraphrased, said, “I don’t
care who people vote for; I care who counts the
CROSS CURRENT
IN CONCERT
WOODLAND THEATER
votes.” Auditor Dalton keeps restricting what observers
are allowed to observe. Observers need to
see all of the ballot processing procedures. Dalton
should pursue more, not less, transparency.
If online voting ever gets approved, there will
not be enough security to ensure a clean election.
Few people will agree to a hard-to-hack system using
four passwords. Living in epidemic identity
theft/fraud times, this is a warning to you that officials
will make security promises they can’t keep.
Dalton says, “We trust the voter,” implying you are
to trust her (policies). I’ve been election observing
for seven years and mistrust comes from getting
different answers to the same questions.
Vote intelligently by using various resources.
Faith-based voters can research candidates/issues
at www.webelievewevote.com, or view www.capr.
us which rates local and statewide candidates on
property rights issues. The Public Disclosure Commission
shows a candidate’s donors at pdc.wa.gov.
Endorsements are listed on candidates’ websites.
www.webelievewevote.com
Using Biblical and traditi onal values, We Believe
We Vote offers informed voter recommendations
to the Spokane and Tri-Cities communities
for the primary and general.
My theory why fewer people engage in voting:
• No voter education exists, no Public Service Announcements.
• No printed County Voter Guide – online-only •
Guide discriminates against computer illiterate, elderly,
and poor.
• People, busier than ever, have no time to research
candidates/issues.
Ballots arrive in the mail, end up with bills, junk
mail, and forgotten. Election Day is weeks away.
Out of sight, out of mind.
No accountability to vote since voting is anonymous;
nothing encourages you to vote except yourself…don’t
vote and no one will know.
Teach your children to vote, they are our future.
Recently, a local high school conducted a mock
election. Elections department provided out-ofdate
poll site equipment. Is this helpful or realistic?
Parents cannot provide their own children an
example about voting unless ballots are marked in
front of them! Ah, that dreaded anonymity, again.
People have no idea what is involved in ballot processing,
what ballot duplication means, or if there
is adequate security.
Spokane County has increased voter registrations,
but how many are constitutionally legal
registrations? Small towns are charged fees by
Spokane County for their elections based on their
registration rolls. Why do small towns have registration
rolls containing voters who haven’t lived
there for many years? Is this ethical? It’s certainly
expensive for small towns.
Election officials must prioritize being up-todate
by removing duplicate registrations, eliminating
“dead” voters, and maintaining the most accurate
voter registration rolls. Dalton requires no
valid identification if someone calls Elections to
change their address. Does Elections know if the
real voter is calling? Trusting an unknown person
on the phone is NOT secure.
Our state and county must do more to improve
voting security. A valid test of accurate voting results
would be an independent election audit. (Your
ballot is read by a program, an algorithm. Can this
program be hacked? Everything can be hacked and
altered.) What’s your trust factor? Judges won’t allow
an independent audit because they don’t check
out facts, never having been election observers, and
don’t understand the processes. If judges knew the
facts, they would want an independent election audit.
Much is at stake in voting. Basic freedom requires
secure voting. Please vote intelligently!
DC Deal
Three contractors
are bidding to fix a broken
fence at the White House.
One is from Chicago, another
is from Tennessee,
and the third is from Minnesota.
All three go with
a White House official to
examine the fence.
The Minnesota
contractor takes out a tape
measure and does some
measuring, then works
some figures with a pencil.
"Well," he says, "I figure
the job will run about
$900. $400 for materials,
$400 for my crew, and
$100 profit for me."
The Tennessee
contractor also does some
measuring and figuring,
then says, "I can do this
job for $700. $300 for materials,
$300 for my crew,
and $100 profit for me."
The Chicago contractor
doesn't measure or figure,
but leans over to the
White House official and
whispers, "$2,700."
The official, incredulous,
says, "You
didn't even measure like
the other guys! How did
you come up with such a
high figure?"
The Chicago contractor
whispers back,
"$1000 for me, $1000 for
you, and we hire the guy
from Tennessee to fix the
fence."
"Done!" replies
the government official.
friends, is how the new
stimulus plan will work.
FRESH CHUCKLEBERRIES!
Warning! Not to be taken internally, literally, or seriously!
“You don’t stop laughing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop laughing.” -- Anonymous
“Laughter
is the shortest distance
between two people.”
~ Victor Borge
“If con is the opposite of
pro, then is Congress the
opposite of progress?”
“Politicians and diapers
have one thing in common:
they should both be
changed regularly… and
for the same reason.”
DC Deal
Three contractors
are bidding to fix a broken
fence at the White House.
One is from Chicago, another
is from Tennessee,
and the third is from Minnesota.
All three go with
a White House official to
examine the fence.
The Minnesota
contractor takes out a tape
measure and does some
measuring, then works
some figures with a pencil.
"Well," he says, "I figure
the job will run about
$900. $400 for materials,
$400 for my crew, and
$100 profit for me."
The Tennessee
contractor also does some
measuring and figuring,
then says, "I can do this
job for $700. $300 for materials,
$300 for my crew,
and $100 profit for me."
The Chicago contractor
doesn't measure or figure,
but leans over to the
White House official and
whispers, "$2,700."
The official, incredulous,
says, "You
didn't even measure like
the other guys! How did
you come up with such a
high figure?"
The Chicago contractor
whispers back,
"$1000 for me, $1000 for
you, and we hire the guy
from Tennessee to fix the
fence."
"Done!" replies
the government official.
And that, my
friends, is how the new
stimulus plan will work.
Global Response
A worldwide survey
was conducted by the
UN. The only question
asked was: "Would you
please give your honest
opinion about solutions
to the food shortage in the
rest of the world?"
The survey was a
huge failure.
In Africa they
didn't know what "food"
meant.
In Eastern Europe
they didn't know what
"honest" meant.
In Western Europe
they didn't know
what "shortage" meant.
In China they
didn't know what "opinion"
meant.
In the Middle
East they didn't know
what "solution" meant.
In South America
they didn't know what
"please" meant.
And, in the USA
they didn't know what "the
rest of the world" meant.
Q: Why is England the
wettest country?
A: Because so many kings
and queens have been
reigning there.
Q: How many politicians
does it take to change a
light bulb?
A: Two: one to change it
and another one to change
it back again.
often walked barefoot
which produced an impressive
set of callouses on
He also ate very
little, making him rather
frail and with his odd diet
he often suffered from bad
breath.
Scotsman Courtesy
A Scotsman who
was driving home one
night, ran into a car driven
by an Englishman.
The Scotsman got
out of the car to apologize
and offered the Englishman
a drink from a bottle
of whisky.
The Englishman
was glad to have a drink.
"Go on," said
the Scot, "have another
drink."
The Englishman
drank gratefully. "But
don't you want one, too?"
he asked the Scotsman.
"Perhaps," replied
the Scotsman, "after the
police have gone."
“The NSA: a government
organization that actually
listens to you!”
“The recession is getting
so bad, the bank sent me a
new type of credit card. It
was pre-declined.”
a clown, walk into the bar.
The bartender says, "What
is this, some kind of joke?"
Deep Pockets
I went into a Liberal
clothing store today
to purchase some pants.
When I started
trying on a few pairs, I
noticed that all the pockets
except one were visibly
removed.
I stopped a clerk
and ask him if anyone
complained.
He said "No, Liberals
always want a hand
out."
I asked what happened
to the other pockets.
"They don't go to
waste: Conservatives use
them to line theirs."
carry a scepter?
created the heaven and
the earth... After that, everything
else was made in
China.”
Q: Why do the French eat
snails?
A: They don't like fast
food.
Q: Why are there no
knock knock jokes about
America?
A: Because freedom rings!
Q: What do you call a Filipino
contortionist?
A: A Manila folder.
