How To Identify Real Pearl Mala Beads
15 th Nov. 2016
The pearl is a precious gemstone that is naturally created by shell fish like oyster or clam. When
substances like sand, organic material or even parasites get trapped inside the shell fish, there is a
chemical reaction inside the oyster which creates the pearl. Pearl gemstone is ruled by the planet
Moon; therefore, it can tap the powers of the serene Moon and offer peace and stability of mind to
the wearer. A real pearl necklace or ring is also worn to protect the wearer from the malefic
effects of Moon due to its ill-positioning in the natal charts.
However, the natural ocean pearl is quite a rare gemstone and due to increased demand, many
people have started preparing cultured pearls by inseminating the shell fish, which creates the pearl.
The original as well as cultured pearl have similar benefits. But some people also sell fake pearls,
which are worthless, in order to earn profit. So, how do we tell the real pearl mala beads from the
fake ones? Let’s find out:
Most real pearls are not perfectly round. A well-rounded and lustrous pearl is the rarest of
the rare kind. Most real oyster pearls are unevenly-shaped and not uniform. While, the fake
pearls are shaped to look like a perfect sphere. They are also painted and chemically
polished to look shiny.
You can check the temperature of the pearl to tell if it is real or artificial. You need to have a
good sense of touch for this. Usually, a real pearl always feels cool when you touch it. And

Rudraksha-Ratna
plastic pearls tend to feel warm. Also, if you rub a real pearl with your fingers, you will feel
a slight unevenness, while the fake pearl will have a smooth, slippery surface.
Try to shake or knock a pearl necklace and listen to how it sounds. A string of original pearls
will make a soft but heavy clunk sound whereas; the imitation pearls will have light and tiny
sound.
Try to throw a pearl bead from about 60 cm height and the real pearl will have a bounce of
about 35 cm. While a fake one has no rebound height at all. It will just fall flat.
These are some of the ways in which you can identify a real pearl necklace. So, the next time you
are buying pearl mala beads, make sure you have tested it well.
