FUNDING BOOST FOR THE TRUST Leigh Community Trust has received £18,807 thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery. People’s Postcode Lottery is a charity lottery. Players play with their postcodes to win cash prizes, while raising money for charities and good causes across Great Britain and globally. A minimum of 30% goes directly to charities and players have raised over £135 Million for good causes across the country The funding boost from Postcode Community Trust will enable us to continue delivery of our Dancing Down Memory Lane Programme. The project is not only a beneficial physical experience for older people, but also bestows other significant benefits for those who enter the third age and beyond. Our sessions offer a way to be sociable and have fun, promoting a welcome sense of community spirit. A qualified dance teacher will visit care homes and community centres to deliver vintage tea dance sessions each week for a 12- month period. This will promote memories of days gone by, each session will start with a sing song featuring old favourite songs to stimulate memories of participants and participants will be encouraged to dance in their seats and sing-a-long. After the introductory sing-song a unique dance class in a number of old popular dances, will commence to promote social togetherness and break down isolation barriers. The sessions will also encourage everyone to learn the steps of both ‘lead’ and ‘follow’ – so everyone gets the chance to take part in the sessions. When you sign up to play People’s Postcode Lottery, your postcode is your ticket. A minimum of 30% goes directly to charities across Great Britain and internationally.
