Held at the Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 S. Ravinia Ave., the free event includes sleigh rides, face painting, make-and-take crafts, live entertainment, and visits with Santa. At 5:45 p.m., the crowd is to move to the adjacent Village Hall for the mayor’s annual tree lighting. The mayor and the Village Board encourage everyone to play, eat and shop in Orland Park this holiday season. The 143rd Street train station and its adjacent Crescent Park are to be decorated and visible from LaGrange Road and by those traveling by train. Josh (Thomas Middleditch) and his friends already had the bachelor party planned, though, so the friends decide to take advantage of the party place in Ojai, California, to help Josh through his tough time and, more importantly, not miss out on the party they had planned. What comes next is a mix of the traditional guy party films — booze, drugs, women and so forth — mixed with a melancholy attitude, along with the mixed message that sometimes all these “friends” are more concerned about their own good times, even when they are supposedly there to help someone, but also that these zany characters will truly be there in the end and are just what Josh needs to make it out of the darkness. It features a cast the likes of Adam Pally, Nick Kroll and Jenny Slate, who are well-equipped to handle the mix of the emotions in the film. But the script and direction, both by Jeff Baena, are simply a bit off. “Joshy” struggles with its tone, with keeping its characters likeable, with trying to find true emotion while presenting over-the-top antics. And what is left is something that, again, is not bad but is not altogether memorable. The only special feature on this Blu-ray disc is an audio commentary with Baena, Pally and Middleditch, which is entertaining more often than insightful. Either way, the two are fairly weak home video releases for Lionsgate. And one has to wonder if the lackluster nature of the films begot mediocre releases, or if the mediocre releases are what help highlight the lackluster nature of the films. Either way, they’re not really worth the time or the money. Have you seen a movie recently and want to let everyone know about it?
