Judging will take place during the weeks commencing Monday 3 rd and Monday 10 th April
2017. Further details on the judging weeks will follow with your delivery instructions
during week commencing 20 th March 2017.
The number of free entries to which entrants are entitled, relates to the level of Taste of
the West membership and not the level of award (e.g., gold) achieved in 2016.
There is no need to give a full description of the product(s) entered – we do not require a
full ingredients list or how it is made. Just the name of the product e.g., Chicken & Leek
Pie or Chocolate Orange Brownies.
All products must be commercially and readily available.
If your product is sold as a single serving portion (e.g., a pasty or brownie or single steak)
you will be asked to submit at least two of this item.
Products are NOT blind tasted and must be presented for judging prepared and packaged
ready as they would be for sale to the customer including all packaging and labelling.
Ensure your products comply with all legal labelling regulations. Items sold direct to food
service require ingredients’ lists for example. Any product submitted without the correct
and proper labelling (i.e. name of product, ingredients, and all other legal requirements)
will NOT be judged. We appreciate this may not necessarily apply to all entries into the
alcoholic drinks classes. Meat products should include where the meat was bred/reared,
kill date, etc.
Do not let your products fall at the first hurdle. Ensure you put the correct ‘use by’ and
‘best before’ dates on and ensure your entries are well within life when delivered.

8 Dairy (Non-Cheese) Yogurt, cream, butter, milk
9 Meat & Poultry Submitted raw but needs to be cooked for judging – all beef, lamb,
pork, veal, venison, chicken, duck, turkey, goose, and game birds etc.
10 Cured Meat Ready to be eaten from the pack or only lightly warmed for
judging - ham, cured meats, corned beef, salami, air dried hams,
smoked meat, chorizo etc.
11 Sausages Including hogs pudding and black pudding
12 Bacon
13 Burgers, Faggots & Meatballs
14 Fish Wet fish, smoked fish, shellfish, fishcakes, fish pâté, fish pie, fish
soup, etc.
15 Ready Meals, Soups & Light Eats Soups, salads, sandwiches, ready prepared meals, pâtés, eggs, olives,
crisps, nuts, etc.
16 Sauces & Accompaniments Sauces, marinades, mustard, dressings, oils, mayonnaises, herbs &
spices, tapenades, fruit cheeses, vinegars, rubs, etc.
17 Sweet Preserves Jam, marmalade, curd, honey
18 Savoury Preserves Chutney, relish, savoury jam, jelly

Each product entered is judged in the appropriate class from the above list.
One gold award winning product will be chosen by the judges as the “Champion” in each category (or
combined category where appropriate). This stage of judging takes place at a later date.
In the final stage of judging, one Champion product will be awarded the accolade
“Supreme Champion”.
