of food in her country.
She says"in the
breakfast we generally
hadeggs,toast,cheese,milk,e
tc and in the
lunch/dinner,we
took,pasta,sh,lazzani,e

fork and a knife.
But at Lpu,we miss our
food since we are non -
vegetarians.
Firstly, I seriously
found it very
challenging to survive
without sh,but since I
have been eating the
Indian food from 3
months or so,I have
started liking it because
its very spicy and
healthy too".

pizzas,of every
avour,be it capsicum,
onion or corn,one could
get them all under the
roofs of the "Kings
pizza",located at the 4th
level of Unimall.

views ,he say's"we
serve all types of pizza
of world class quality
."Thincrust" and "pan
pizzas" are ordered
more by the customers.
South Indians like
more of corncheese and
paneer chilly
pizza,while foreign

A newly opened coffee
corner -"Arabica" has
attracted the customers
since its beginning
through the blend of
fresh and aromatic
coffee beans.
One could see
innumerable coffeelovers
at the shop
,ordering cups of hot
coffee,releasing the
stress speacially,at the
end of the day.
The owner says-"the
rst coffee plant was set
up in Arab thats why
the name of the shop is
kept Arabica."
On moving towards the
main gate of Lpu,we get
a one -stop for all
varieties of main -
course food and
Punjabi thalis,as said
by one of the
employees of the
"Campus Cafe.
He say's,"since south
Indians are more in
number,hence they
prefer more of
dosas,idlis,uttapams,no
t only them but the
foreigners across the
world studying at Lpu
also eat indian dishes
,which is a matter of
pride for all the
indians".

speak shape

they merely express
thoughts, or do the
structures in languages
without our knowledge
or consent, shape the
very thoughts we wish
to express?
Actually the
importance of language
is essential to every
aspect and interaction
in our everyday lives.
We use language to
inform the people
around us of what we
feel, what we desire,
and to understand the
world around us. And
when it comes to LPU ,
one can nd not only
people across the India
but across the world too
and thus one can hear
every possible
language over here.
For every LPU student
its a matter of great
pleasure of getting an
opportunity to study
with students of all
over the world and
communicate with
them. Its a two way
street where some have
to compromise and
others learn new way of
communication i.e
learn new language

face a lot of problems
because of not knowing
the basics of HINDI
and thus face huge
difculties on daily
basis.

language problem in
LPU as I don't
understand Hindi, I
know only little bit of
Hindi which is not
enough for me to
interact and
communicate with
others, most of mine
friends are from
different states and so I
interact with them in
English only as
interacting in Hindi is
difcult for me and all
of my friends don't
understand English
therefore language is a
barrier for me”
The problem is not just
conned within the
understanding of
language verbally but
also writing in a
particular language
perfectly is
troublesome for many.
As Sabina parveen

Kashmir says “ I don't
have any problem with
the language as I can
interact in both English
and Hindi , I have only
one problem and i.e. I
can understand Hindi
but cannot read and
write Hindi.”
But as it is well said
that time heals
everything and teaches
every lesson so many
students who were
facing the problems
with the unknown
languages in intial
stage with the passing
time student managed
learning the very
language and even
some become master in
it.

difculties in
communication with
other students in Hindi
as our Hindi was very
poor but as the time

interaction with some of
the Indian students who
were not so good in
English was very
difcult for them as they
didn't understand what

As every individual has
its own way of
pronouncing certain
words and due to that at
different parts of world
the
same language with
same rules and
grammar are spoken in
different tterms and this
difference in terms acts
as an interruption in a
successful
communication among
students.

BELIEFS IN LPU
ndia has no state
Ireligion, it is a
secular state. It is
the land where almost
all the major religions
of the world are
practiced by their
respective followers
.And the same is the
case with LPU as the
people from different
religion live happily
and altogether in India
on the similar terms
irrespective of religion
differences all the LPU
students live as a huge
happy family.
Denetly there are
differences in Religion
followed by the
different students but
that do not create any
sort of disturbance
within the relationships
shared by students with
each other and they
enjoy, study and do fun
altogether.
Deepti Garg student
of BBA told “my class
comprise students of
different religion but
that never act as a
barrier within the
conversation we want
to do, rather we all
behave in similar
manner with every
student without
thinking of from which
religion they belong
from “
Students also celebrate
the festivals of
different religions all
together as when it was
diwali even the
muslims burst cracker
in the sports ground
with their hindu
friends so in Holi
Christians also played
with colours and water
not only this but on the
holy eve of Guru
Nanak Jayanti ,group of
friends that

individuals of all the

differentiation on the
basis of religion in
LPU.
On Friday Muslim
students does their
religious customs in the
college primises only
while on the occasion
of Eid a special
arrangement for
praying was done in
boys hostels and girl
hostels in order to
respect the muslim
religion and their
festivities.
For many students its a
matter of great
exploration as its give
them exposure to know
about the different
religions , their
traditionalities, their
beliefs .As Usman khan
of Agriculture
department stated
“being in Lpu was a
entirely perception
changing experience for

me as making friends
from different
religions and knowing
about them in deep
,just changed my way
of thinking and I
reliased at the end all
the religion teach us the
same lessons”

friend on the occasion
EID ,he nd the festival

there is no difference in
it this clearly shows
that in this university

discrimination

on the basis of religion

“before coming to lpu I

concept that as the
university is present in
Punjab so only Sikhism
would be given the
whole importance and

chances of
uncomfortableness

preconceived

Clothes exhibit
one's cultures

Lpu is a platform that
witnesses a lot about
various cultures from
not only India but also
from the rest parts of
the world.
Let's have a glance at

outts at Lpu.
1. Manipur-The
Jeweled Land ,one of
the” Seven Sisters” is
blessed with handloom
and weaving traditions.
The costumes are very
colourful and vibrant.
Many Manipuri
students could be seen
in their cultural attire
like Innaphi ,Phanek
,Mayek Naibi during
fests organized by Lpu.
2. The dressing of the”
Heaven of the earth”
are as beautiful as its
place. Kashmir is
popular throughout the
world for its
embroidery and
handworks on rich
fabrics like silk/wool.
Pherans and burkhas
/hijab with few
ornaments are often
seen worn by the
Kashmiri girls in the
campus.
3. The Himachal
clothings are varied and
are well known for
manually weaved
dresses .The
Himachalis wear
lengthy kurtas , salwars
during festive
occasions.
4. Kerala is known for
its simplicity and
serenity. White/cream
colours are considered
holy and so during
festivals like Onam
,girls get up in
“Mundu Neriyathu”
.Muslims of Kerela put

on long purdah in dark
blue/black shades over
their costumes.
5. There are several
ethnic groups of
Nigeria studying at
Lpu.Though being
updated by modern
dressing trends ,they
often wear their
regional costumes.
Babban Riga are worn
by Nigerian Muslims
specially on Fridays
which is considered
holy .6. Zambia-rare
but unique.Lpu gets
opportunity to know
about the exotic
dressing variations of
Africa. Zambians are
seen in “Chitenge” –a
special ocassion
garment .For them
clean and pressed
clothing is very
important.
7. Bhutanis have a
unique get up with
distinctive patterns
demonstrating their
rich culture.They are
generally choosy in
terms of color and
fabric, often seen at
Lpu in their regional
attire.
