Welcome
to Vermillion
welcome to vermillion
Vermillion is honored to have
the opportunity to welcome you
to our fine city! I am extremely
pleased and privileged to be
serving as Vermillion’s mayor.
We invite you to visit the wide
array of restaurants, specialty
shops, and businesses located in
our Historic Downtown as well
as the assortment of eateries,
museums, galleries, and other
services found along Cherry
Street and on Highway 50. We
are proud to be the home of
the University of South Dakota,
an extremely important part of
our community since 1862. The
cultural, educational, research and
athletic opportunities offered by
USD are very much appreciated and
are a special part of Vermillion. As
a special note, the world renowned
National Music Museum resides on
the campus of USD.
Vermillion was named the 2014
Large Community of the Year by
Gov. Dennis Daugaard. We are
extremely proud of this award,
and aim to build on our goals of
excellence in the State of South
Dakota.
Our wonderful Prentis Park is set
to undergo major improvements,
including a state-of-the-art
swimming pool that will include
a lazy river, floatable water walk,
basketball hoop, water slides, and
much more! Another exciting new
project is our beautiful Bliss Pointe
housing development. With all
of this wonderful growth in our
community, Vermillion is set for a
flourishing and prosperous future.
We hope you enjoy your stay in
Vermillion, where we are close to
everything, but far from ordinary!
Sincerely,
John E. (Jack) Powell
