Melissa City Hall Plaza
MELISSA, TX
The City Hall of a community plays an important role
in establishing its character. Complimenting that
character with civic space is equally important. This
multi-function 3.4 acre space is on the west side of
City Hall in downtown Melissa. It includes both active
and passive functional spaces to serve the citizens of
the community. A splash fountain is the centerpiece
of the space with a pavilion and veterans memorial
anchoring each end. The central ellipse serves as a
concert and festival space, with the outer ring being
used as access for a community Farmers Market.
The Melissa City Hall Plaza and Park has something
for every member of the community as it continues to
grow and prosper for years to come.
BUSH CENTRAL BARKWAY
TRAPS
North Region
Excellence in
Design Category
Award
Winner
At the intersection of President
George Bush Turnpike and Central
Expressway, through coordination
with both TxDOT and Oncor, the
City of Richardson created a dog
park on otherwise unusable land.
Pacheco Koch was able to help
the community take advantage of
this large, partially shaded site to
provide a paddock dog park that
is as popular with the dogs as it is
with their owners.
FOREST HILL MEMORIAL PARK
FOREST HILL, TX
Pacheco Koch was selected by the City of Forest
Hill to work with their selected contractor in
designing and constructing a memorial park
dedicated to community members that have
served or are currently serving in the Armed
Services or as Public Safety Officers.
Each service branch has its own memorial with
its service emblem, service flag and the engraved
names of the honorees. Two specific monuments
are dedicated to fallen public safety officers from
Forest Hill and for MIA/POW military personnel.
The result is a statement of the high quality design
and construction that can be accomplished with
very tight budget constraints.
DALLAS LDS TEMPLE
DALLAS, TX
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints (LDS) Dallas Temple is a regional
worship facility for important rites
and ordinances apart from Sunday
services. After 30 years without a
major site remodel, Pacheco Koch was
selected as the landscape architect to
re-design the entire site from building
face to property lines. As a destination
for hundreds of weddings a year,
the site was designed with multiple
camera-friendly courtyards and vistas
appropriate for the brides and their
wedding parties. The design includes
four courtyards and one major plaza
featuring a multi-tiered water feature
and extensive ornamental lighting.
The landscape is lush by design, with
frequently rotated annual flower
arrangements to act as backdrops for
photography. Extra care was taken
to preserve large, mature live oaks
throughout the site. Entry points to
the site were redesigned to allow more
visibility from the street and more open
access to maintain needed security.
The result is a quiet, pleasant garden
setting for the Temple’s patrons.
KUBOTA HEADQUARTERS
GRAPEVINE, TX
Pacheco Koch provided full service
landscape architectural and
construction administration services for
the new North American headquarters
of the Kubota Tractor Corporation.
The project was a unique opportunity
to balance the client’s aesthetic,
programmatic and environmental
goals with a challenging site and a
complex architectural design. Stone
retaining walls frame preservation areas
along the entry drive, terminating at a
paver court. The dynamic architecture
unexpectedly integrates into a diverse
landscape of stone, water and native
plants. A shallow water feature at
the entry court flows beneath a glass
corridor into a shaded, high-walled
courtyard, transforming a linear canal
to a curving stream as it flows out
across the site. The courtyard, patio
spaces and a rooftop terrace provide
both refuge and expansive views
of native planting areas, arrayed to
evoke Kubota’s agricultural heritage.
Rainwater harvesting fully provides
for on-site irrigation needs, helping to
fulfill the client’s goal of a measurably
sustainable landscape.
Melissa 100-acre sports park
MELISSA, TX
Working with various community stakeholders, the design
team developed the programming and design for this 100
acre sports park. Phase 1 is anchored by an artificial turf
five-plex baseball/softball facility with four soccer fields.
A stormwater pond provides irrigation for the park and
community fishing opportunities.
While being implemented in phases, at complete buildout
the park will provide play and practice facilities for
all of the Melissa youth sports organizations. The facilities
include lit practice and play fields for soccer and football, a
baseball five-plex, a baseball four-plex and a softball fourplex.
Other uses, such as trails, an amphitheater and frisbee
golf, will provide additional recreational opportunities.
Toyota headquarters
PLANO, TX
The Toyota headquarters sits on
a 100-acre corporate campus in
northwest Plano. The site was
designed to create a variety of
spaces for passive and active
endeavors to serve the campus
employees. The campus core
features multiple courtyards
for dining, events and vehicle
displays. Water features animate
outdoor terraces at two different
levels and open turf areas allow
for spontaneous or organized
recreation. Health and wellness
is encouraged through a
network of concrete sidewalks
and decomposed granite trails
weaving throughout the campus
for walking and running. 25 acres
of native grasses and wildflowers
and drought tolerant native
plantings have been used on site
to reduce the amount of irrigated
turf. Storm water runoff from the
parking garages is being captured
in 40 large cisterns and used to
irrigate the site.
Timbers nature preserve
MURPHY, TX
The early phase of the project consisted of grant
funding acquisition for the park and to accommodate
City funding constraints. This phase of work included
conceptual design based on available existing data and
input from the community. A series of public meetings
were conducted to present options and obtain input
from the community, Parks Board and City Council.
Final plans for this $2.4 million dollar project included
nearly a mile of 14-foot multi-city hike and bike
trails, a mile of soft surface nature trails, fishing piers,
restroom facilities, practice ball fields, ADA upgrades
to playground and picnic facilities, stream restoration,
pavilions and fire pits/barbecue facilities.
Ross tower
DALLAS, TX
A Class-A building that towers over Ross Avenue and has spectacular views of Klyde Warren Park deserves a
Class-A landscape design to welcome its employees and visitors. Constructed of mahogany, granite and brass
fixtures, the building has an elegant charm that defines the identity of the Dallas Skyline. Pacheco Koch provided
an urban design that maintains the elegant charm of the existing tower while reinvigorating the building’s
primary entry.
Elm fork greenbelt
DALLAS, TX
Pacheco Koch was selected by the prime design firm to provide rendering and modeling services for the
Elm Fork Master Plan. The landscape architects developed site plans, renderings and a 12 minute three
dimensional fly-through video to use in both the public meeting process and in seeking funding for the
construction of the project. In addition to the fly-through, a brochure was developed highlighting the
main features and amenities of the project to be used in fund raising efforts.
Irving hotel
IRVING, TX
As a primary structure within a mixed-use district, the future Westin Hotel an occupies ideal location between
the Irving Convention Center and the Irving Music Factory. This position between two major destinations has
opportunities to bridge and connect the urban space between the two. As a leading hotel chain, Westin hotel
encourages environmental sustainability and green building initiatives. The exterior landscape design goes
beyond meeting the hotel standards. The landscape and exterior hardscape design effortlessly blends the two
bordering properties, while providing an elegant landscape design that enhances the fine dining experience
and overnight stay of its patrons.
The hill
DALLAS, TX
The Hill is a 16-acre shopping center on a high-profile site in North Dallas. The aging center is getting
a modern and eclectic makeover that reinvigorates the 70’s style facility. Phase I of the project is
transforming the auto heavy center into a walkable place with a lush native landscape and pockets
of amenities for restaurants and businesses. With tenants like Treehouse coming into the project, the
landscape feeds off the eco-friendly home improvement store by using native grasses, shrubs and trees,
rain water collection and water efficient irrigation.
