worn, dusty, rusting and burnt. Always tired, numb, sore,
aching, uncomfortable and painful. But not restful or asleep,
let alone spent or dead. Yet stains, debris and decay are
symptom, agent and cause of life, growth and action.
Gradual arrival, abrupt emergence and sudden birth; incognito,
hidden and top-secret door, gate and alley ways; predatory
backdrop scenery set décor; bait laden and sprung, magnetic,
adhesive and absorbent traps; set, poised, waiting, in ambush;
ready and on-standby; until chosen prey, recruits and fodder
targeted and struck; namely, ongoing passer-by turnover,
which they decoy, lure and swallow.
Then, give or take at least one long-way-round and shortcut,
trade and stage entrance and emergency exit, side-room and
lower basement, cramped staircase and rooftop etc later…
Next stage after that. Pressgang, abduction, kidnap and
detainment. Ordeal, endurance, extremes and challenge.
Menace, threat, risk and danger. Opportunity, rescue, escape
and adventure.
Fear and terror soon join and fast become excitement and
drive. Other fevers switch on and flash up, ignited, detonating
and eruptive. Therefollows, rainbow spectrum dispersal, orbit,
constellation and solar system. Urges and refuel kick in and
take effect.
Surrounding prison cell, covered exercise yard and playground
enclosure give way to organic, biological and soft
tissue; inflatable, bulging and swollen. Wall, floor and
ceiling rockfaces flex muscles, strain artery veins and perspire
sweat. Mostly unblemished, except for occasional
bruising, injury and healing.
Fresh and clear night shadow and exhaust fume clouds and
mist. Sombre and murky flames and gleam. Exquisite,
mirrored and torn finery, gloss and rags. Pale, suntanned and
darker complexions, skin and fleshtone. Sweet perfume
blossom outbursts.
From innermost depths, rise energy-rush and power-surge.
Whilst all around, force-field and thunderstorm proceed.
Much interplay and hybrid between body-heat and roomtemperature
climates.
Full anatomy and entire conscience as well as local neighbourhood
weather altogether manufacture telltale heartbeat
and heavy-breath air-conditioning and canned-muzak
soundtrack.
Desire and free will impact and presence make themselves
unmissably felt and known, despite path-blockage obstacles
and long-distance.
Sense, usage, intake and exchange conduct right along and
pass straight through solid barriers, also with far outreach
beyond.
Raw pleasure and pure joy strengthen and boost, add up and
increase, breed and spread; no thing, place and body left;
everywhere, anymore, ever again; replacement and takeover
by sheer awareness and experience.

So Mathias, you had a
few questions that you wanted
to ask me.
Yeah, I wrote some
questions. So maybe let’s ask
about this h00dumentary?
I know you were playing in
2012 once at Longstreet bar,
right?
Right, yeah.
What is, who or what
was h00dumentary actually?
h00dumentary was a
video work I made in 2011,
that was taking place in
the former hoods of Amsterdam,
called Bijlmer, and
so h00dumentary, was a
hood documentary, sort of
like a combination, like a
hood documentary, but it's a
“hoodumentary”. And then
it was also written with two
zeros in the title because
normally at the time there
was GHE20G0TH1K and all
this, they were all kind of
writing these numbers and
emojis instead of letters, and
then h00dumentary came
out of that, because I needed
a soundtrack for this movie,
so I started working on a
soundtrack, made 10 tracks
in one week basically, then
Lhaga was onto h00dumentary
somehow, cuz it was
pretty good for what it was,
it was a special niche I think,
and then yeah h00dumentary,
we got in touch and she
was like ‘come down here to
Longstreet’, and we played
upstairs actually, together
with Mathis and Jan as well,
and then, it became a bit like
a movie, a bit like a gesamtkunstwerk,
yeah it became
like a movie producer alterego
and a mentality somehow.
Would you like to say
a little bit more about the
mentality? The alter-ego was
based on Biljmer kids let’s
say? Bijlmer is very much let’s
say black people?
Ah you know Biljmer?
Yes, I was living 3 years
in Amsterdam, so I know Biljmer.
Ah, shit, OK.
Biljmer is a special
place. I wouldn’t even categorize
it in a sense but it used to
be a pretty hood place, I met a
lot of good people there also. I
think it’s more about like that
it being high-life at the same
time. But I was accepted for
a residency from the SMBA
(Stedelijk Museum Bureau
Amsterdam) which is a bit of
an edgier version of the Stedelijk,
they had a Bijlmer flat
and some geld so thats what
made it possible to shoot that
movie out there.
High-life?
Yeah just because it’s in
the Biljmer, it doesn’t mean it
can’t be high-life, you get me
though?
But then, how was, how
do you construct what was
your alter-ego upon, what was
your inspiration let’s say?
It was like Ace Hood
documentary. It was like a
documentary Ace Hood did
on his own and I really like
to speak about voice-overs,
that kind of speaker voice dry
documentaries has. But wait I
have a surprise for you.

I mean this is Cam’ron
from Dipset talking about

We actually already did a
kind of lecture this afternoon,
when we talked at the shop
you were working at, just
getting to know each other,
that we wish we could have
captured, where we mentioned
Cam'ron from Dipset
being one of the few people
who actually acknowledging
that, which now got picked up
by like $hayne from HBA and
that.
Yeah I remember that.
And then I asked if he’s gay
and you said: No.
Yeah, but he’s still really
camp though, I mean Cam’ron
is his own league I suppose.
Let me ask you about PRICE
though, what is PRICE? Like
Mathias is performing under
the name PRICE.
Well, PRICE is also
playing with an alter-ego in a
sense, as you are doing with
the h00dumentary? But what
is PRICE? I mean.
You mentioned, like being
a big Argentinian cowboy,
E+E, the artist who is now
going into full transformation
and also doing kinda trancey
cumbia music?
I mean I am really interested
in people, characters
that are illustrating living
like a failure, failing, amateur
or naive approach as in body
gestures, content and words
that are lets say very low-culturish,
very trashy and then
like, I talked to you this afternoon,
I am a pretty big fan
of him I see his pictures and
then I like yeah I was kind
of inspired by his looks and
by the way.. I saw him once
when he did performance with
a DJ at the Les Urbain festival
in Lausanne and was amazed,
so his aura his presence, you
cannot really capture what it
is... but he is playing with big
things good elements that,, I
dont know but...

So, my next question, so,
Kapital.FM, what is it?
Let’s get to the point,
Kapital.FM is a name of a
Nigerian online radio channel
but it’s also the sound
of the capital obviously and
next week I’m putting together
this exhibition in London
called Kapital.FM which has
a bunch of people that I like.
It's kind of like bordering
between music and art a little
bit, I know this will sound
very cliché, but I think
Kapital.FM really captures
that somehow and it’s gonna
be in few shops in Bethnal
Green, Cambridge Heath
Road. I would like to talk
a bit more about the artists
involved in that show actually
that’s what Kapital.FM is.
I mean Kapital.FM doesn’t
exist per se, but it's the idea
of the ultimate frequency,
and I think It has something
to do with Berlin Community
Radio as well and Downtown
Ilja show I have been running
now for a year and a half
and which became a bit of
synergy, you know, what
youd’be listening in a studio
during a week may you play
on Fridays and a bit of talk
show as well and maybe that
illuminates the artworks in
some ways too?
Berlin Community Radio
is a bit more music base or
music channel and with this
Kapital.FM you are trying this
structure just include fine art.
Yeah, for example I
mean Justin from 18+ is gonna
be in the show as well and
18+ is someone I have known
for a very long time, and
actually Justin and Samya, is
like 18+ is their artwork you
know what I mean, so they
have been working for years
only with 18+, it's their manifestation,
that’s why I thought
it was interesting to have
them in the exhibition even
if they’re not artists per se,
but they’re still artists, you
know what I mean ........
I mean Dean Blunt was originally
invited as well but he is
so reclusive it is impossible to
invite him to such an exhibition.
Also, I remember you
showed me this girl, this Instagram
girl.
Ah, Zaina!
I’m actually not sure if
she is there or not..
Yeah, she’s great, she’s
very enigmatic and had such
energy that made me approach
her also, her name is
Zaina Miuccia and she’s a
London fashion kid a little bit,
she was, she’s said yes to the
show and all that but I think
now she’s caught up in something,
even though she’s not
an artist, I think she contributes
to something, and that
energy interested me, aesthetically,
you know how show is
gonna be in different shops
in Bethnal Green, some tandoori
place, pizza place close
to the gallery that I work
with, Wilkinson, so you kind
of have to walk around in the
nearby area of the gallery
sort of thing. Actually, I have
something for you, talking
about Latin tings yeah, I told
you about this Reebok/Nike
clip before of the guy calling
to request the song on the
Mexican radio that he thinks
is called Reebok and Nike.
But it's actually “Rhythm of
the Night”, this is the rhythm
of the night, big radio fail,
and the host laughs his ass of
when realizes what track the
guy is requesting lol..

the night I met you at Klingenthaler
strasse.
That was the funny
thing actually because RP
BOO, you can also see his
artist name on this shirt,
on the back of the shirt, I was
like using all these musicians
names. I also named a show
after British musician Faze
Miyake in January in Stockholm
like my solo show was
basically called Faze Miyake,
later on he was getting
back to me on twitter, and he
was like: ‘omg thank you so
much, I didn’t know I inspired
somebody to the extent that it
bled through to contemporary
art, naming an exhibition
after me and all that yeah?
And then when I went to
London, ‘you need to hook
up with us and come to
rinse.fm radio station’. Then
Stuart his manager, who also
does the booking of the Rinse.
fm parties, they took me to
the studio and I was super
happy about it. Since then
we’ve been in touch and then
now I booked Faze for this
one thing in Stockholm for
Absolut Vodka in September,
President Room, private
party tin yeah, so he is now...
It’s nice this continuation.
I have no right to use J Cush,
RP BOO’s names, at the same
time it’s a tribute, its a mirror
effect, but I had no intention
to reach out to dem or want
something, it's just out of
pure love, that I'd like to toy
with their names in a drawing,
like my ultimate festival
lineup, you get me? A tribute
rather. And so far the backlash
has been amazing somewhat,
Skepta’s on the shirt,
that’s like my way of saying
that you know, aesthetically
it’s working what you’re surrounded
and embraced by you
get me like?
But I guess it’s not the
first time you did that, or?
Shade or nah?
I guess so, yeah, you
listen to something in the
studio that you’re into, and
you think like that Skepta is
super progressive. And then
Faze Miyake for example is
probably coming from Issey
Miyake that is also a point
of alter-ego standpoint.
I am super interested in that,
you know something more,
like creating a surprise for
yourself, a Kinder egg of what
is grime today?
