Official Film about XX Stara Planina Fest “Balkan Folk” <strong>2016</strong><br />

About 8000 performers from Bulgaria, Russia,<br />

Romania, Montenegro and Iran showed<br />

the richness of their cultural traditions in the<br />

XXth edition of Stara planina Fest “Balkan<br />

Folk <strong>2016</strong>”. The large folklore forum was<br />

held from 12th till 22nd of May in the old<br />

Bulgarian capital - Veliko Tarnovo.<br />

One of the most important accompanying<br />

events was the inauguration of the Monument<br />

of Iliyan Nikolov - creator of Stara<br />

planina fest “Balkan Folk”, Musical feasts<br />

“Euro folk” and the European Association<br />

of Folklore Festivals - <strong>EAFF</strong>. The Secretary<br />

General of UNESCO Mrs. Irina Bokova personally presented the monument. She visited Veliko Tarnovo invited by the<br />

president of <strong>EAFF</strong> Mr. Kaloyan Nikolov.<br />

performers in both forums. They were held at the same time with<br />

XX Stara Planina Fest “Balkan folk” from 12 to 22 May <strong>2016</strong> in<br />

400 Bulgarian and foreign artistic collectives with about 8000<br />

singers, musicians and dancers took part in the largest<br />

folk event of “Musical feasts”.<br />

VI World Championship of Folklore “World<br />

Folk” <strong>2016</strong> began!<br />

Official opening ceremony has special solemnity. Tens of groups, duets and individual performers went on the stage<br />

under the flags of their countries. Among the officials and special guests of the ceremony were the President of the European<br />

Association of Folklore Festivals – <strong>EAFF</strong> and the World Association of Folklore Festivals – WAFF – Kaloyan<br />

Nikolov; Consul General of the Russian Federation in Varna – Sergey Lukyanchuk; Kremena Stoyanova – head expert<br />

in “Culture” Department at Nessebar Municipality; Valko Lyubenov - Doctor Honoris Causa by folk music and dances<br />

of Ansted University UK, producer and choreographer, deputy chairman of the 6 Comission at the International organization<br />

of folklore art IOV-World. The chairman of jury of the Championship Prof. Nikolay Kravtsov - Honored Artist<br />

of Russia, Professor, PhD in Art History, Dean of the St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts, the winner of<br />

the “Golden Book of Motherland”. Honored members of the Jury are: Maestro Georgi Yankov – conductor and musical<br />

expert and Valentin Halvadzhiev – choreographer. Mrs. Mariana Nutsova – director of the Internet TV “Eurofolk” - the<br />

general media partner of the event.<br />

In a letter addressed to the organizers and participants in the Championship, the Mayor of Nessebar Municipality<br />

– Mr. Nikolay Dimitrov expressed his compliments<br />

on the occasion of accepting the <strong>EAFF</strong> in<br />

the structures of UNESCO. Mr. Dimitrov declared<br />

the support of the municipality to the diligence of<br />

the organizers regarding the implementation of the<br />

World Championship of Folklore and wished success<br />

in the noble endeavour to preserve folklore<br />

traditions.<br />

Congratulatory address was also sent from the<br />

Deputy Minister of Culture in Bulgaria – Boil<br />

Banov, who welcomed the efforts of <strong>EAFF</strong> and<br />

its partners in the conduction of such large event<br />

in the idea of promotion of culture diversity and encouraging the international dialog. Mr. Banov wished “Good luck”<br />

to all.<br />

“World Championship is in the highest level at the Chamionshiop system where 2000 groups took part this year. We are<br />

here in order to preserve the traditions and this way to keep the tolerance and good relations between the people. Keep<br />

the spirit and folklore of our ancestors!”, wished to all the performers Mr. Kaloyan Nikolov in his welcoming speech.<br />

Performers of folklore dances and music became ambassadors<br />

of culture at a festival in Rimini<br />

Between August 01 – 06, <strong>2016</strong> in Rimini (Italy) took place the 9th International Competition and Festival of Folklore,<br />

Dance and Music - RIMINI FEST <strong>2016</strong>, organized in cooperation with DEPARTURE OF CULTURE OF RIMINI<br />

(SETTORE CULTURA DI RIMINI) and under the official support and patronage of Rimini Municipality (COMUNE<br />

DI RIMINI).<br />

The festival was with competitive character<br />

and for participation were invited<br />

soloists and art folk groups from different<br />

countries of the world such as<br />

Armenia, China, Estonia, Israel, Lithuania,<br />

Moldavia, Palestine and Portugal,<br />

informed the director of the large event<br />

- Mrs. Julia Tomachkova.<br />

According to Mrs. Tomachkova, the festival<br />

was held under International standards<br />

and fully accomplished as a meeting<br />

place for different cultures, organized<br />

in the spirit of friendship and promoting<br />

a culture of peace, bringing together art performers from all over the world in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere.<br />

The performances presented to the festival’s audience were bright, excellent, unforgettable and overpowering, said<br />

Mrs. Julia Tomachkova and congratulated all the participants for the prestigious Prizes they won in the 9th International<br />

Competition and Festival of Folklore, Dance and Music RIMINI FEST <strong>2016</strong>.<br />

Bulgarian National Television is media partner<br />

of the VI World Championship of Folklore “World Folk” <strong>2016</strong><br />

BNT is media partner of the VI World Championship of Folklore “World Folk <strong>2016</strong>”. National television has interest<br />

to the culture forum and will broadcast the overview movie about the sixth<br />

edition of the championship “World Folk <strong>2016</strong>” after its implementation.<br />

The detailed program (dates, stages and participants) of the Championship<br />

you may find on the official website of the European Association of Folklore<br />

Festivals – <strong>EAFF</strong>.<br />

All the concerts will be live broadcasted on Internet TV – Eurofolk, which is<br />

the general media partner of this enormous international folklore event.<br />

Krakow hosted the Summer Arts Festival for the fourth time<br />

In Krakow - the second largest and one of the oldest town in Poland was held the IV Summer Arts Festival. Krakow<br />

has traditionally been one of the leading centers of Polish academic, cultural, and artistic life and is one of Poland’s<br />

most attractive city.<br />

16 groups from Sweden, Turkey, Bulgaria, Estonia, Israel, Cyprus, Romania, Latvia, Estonia Croatia, Hungary, Czech<br />

Republic, Slovakia magnified the IV. Summer Arts Festival in Krakow. Apart from the two performances, the participants<br />

were able to enjoy many optional programmes during their staying, like boat trip on the river Vistula, visiting the<br />

many spectacles of the City with professional guides, Main Square, Church of St. Adalbert, Town Hall Tower, Wawel<br />

Castle, Basilica.<br />

The first performance was an open-air event, at the beautiful Centrum Kultury Dworek Bianoprodnicki, the closing<br />

ceremony was at De Silva Hall.<br />

After numerous positive feedback about the edition of the festival this year, organizers will surely continue to hold the<br />

Summer Arts Festival in Krakow.<br />

Official Closing Ceremony was held on the stage of Sv. Vlas where a lot of special awards, diplomas and plaques were<br />

The sixth edition of the Championship was held under the patronage of National commission of UNESCO for Bulgaria.<br />

They gave their special award - Diploma and DVD “Balkans - shared heritage” to Folklore Ensemble “Izvorche”<br />

from Krumovgad (Bulgaria).<br />

The littlest participants at the contest - Nicole Powa (3 years old) and her partner Maxim Grodzhiski (4 years old)<br />

from Folklore dance group “Grasshopper” - Langford, Ireland received Diplomas and gifts from the President of the<br />

European Association of Folklore Festivals - Mr. Kaloyan Nikolov. The group leaded by Mrs. Olita Langzdina was<br />

awarded with special award from the Burgas Municipality - Diploma and Golden coin from the Suleiman Pasha bathroom.<br />

Dimitar Karamfilov - bagpiper at Foklore Ensemble “Izvorche” - Krumovgrad, Bulgaria and Hristina Bezhdremova<br />

from Asenovgrad received Diplomas for authentic sound. Fiddle (Gadulka) players - Danail Yordanov from Turkincha<br />

village and Tonika Andreeva from Glogovo village were evaluated with special awards for preservation of folklore<br />

and instrumental art of Bulgaria.<br />

Special award for complex performance received Nastya Aleksieva - soloist in the Exemplary Ensemble for Folklore<br />

music “Vesnyanka” from 8 Secondary School from Pushkino, Russia. Talented students of Elena Olenova were<br />

awarded with Diploma and gift from the Mayor of Sv. Vlas.


Dance group “Studenenska traditsiya” from Dolna Studena village won the Audience award. Special award for appearance<br />

was given to Folklore vocal group “Valshebni zvutsi” from Pobeda village, Bulgaria. Musical duo Dmitriy<br />

Raytov and Anastasia Fomina deserved the special award of the Regional Governer of Burgas - Diploma and a replica<br />

of the oldest processed gold in the world (4400-4100 BC), discovered on the shores of Black Sea.<br />

Diploma and statuette were given by the Nessebar Municipality to Mixed choir from Byala Slatina (Bulgaria). Obzor<br />

Mayoralty assessed little students of Tohid Hadzhibabaey from Dance group “Aylan” from Tehran, Iran with Diploma<br />

and plaque.<br />

Special award of Internet TV Eurofolk (general media partner of the event) was given to Folklore group “Dospat”<br />

from Dospat, Bulgaria. European Folklore Academy gave its special prize to Mixed Folklore Group “Lyaskovchani”<br />

from Lyaskovo village, Bulgaria.<br />

High assessment for excellent performance received the dancers from Ensemble “Biser” from Velika Kladusa, Bosnia<br />

and Herzegovina. Their performance was evaluated by <strong>EAFF</strong> and they received a Diploma and plaque from <strong>EAFF</strong>.<br />

World Folklore Academy assessed the performance of Dance group “Srednogorski polah” from Ihtiman, Bulgaria<br />

and the World Association of Folklore Festivals gave its diploma to Representative Folklore Ensemble “Slav Boykin”<br />

from Rakovski, Bulgaria.<br />

The official closing ceremony of th sixth edition of the World Championship of Folklore “World Folk” <strong>2016</strong> was<br />

attended by the Cultural Attache of the Embassy Islamic Republic of Iran in Bulgaria - Mr. Dzhihani; representatives<br />

of Municipalities - hosts of the Championship; Director of Morsko Kazino Cultural Center in Burgas - Mrs. Lyudmila<br />

Kutieva; general expert of Culture department of Municipality of Obzor - Mrs. Yuliya Gorbunova; the Jury commission<br />

of the Championship.<br />

The chairman of the Jury - Prof. Nikolay Kravtsov greeted the participants and the team of <strong>EAFF</strong>, represented by the<br />

Association president - Mr. Kaloyan Nikolov for perfect organization and conduction of the Championship and for<br />

dignified and deserved partnership with UNESCO. On the occasion of 1000 years the victory of Simeon Veliki over<br />

Byzantium in 2017, prof. Kravtsov invited all participants to gather together again at the next edition of “World folk”<br />

and greet Bulgaria with this remarkable holiday.<br />

XIII Black sea festival “Euro folk - <strong>2016</strong>”<br />

From 1st till 6th of September on the stage of “Green park” complex in Kiten, Primorsko municipality the XIII Black<br />

sea festival “Euro folk <strong>2016</strong>” will be conducted. Folklore event was officially opened by the president of the European<br />

Association of Folklore Festivals, Mr. Kaloyan Nikolov.<br />

More than 100 groups and individual performers<br />

with more over 1500 participants from all<br />

ethnographic regions of Bulgaria and guests<br />

from Romania, Iran and others will attend the<br />

festival. They will compete in 6 categories and<br />

2 age groups.<br />

The jury awards the best performers with 1st<br />

awards in relevant categories and a diploma.<br />

The grand award of “Euro folk” - Grand Prix<br />

“Orpheus” and a diploma.<br />

At the first contest day Flklore ensemble “Gornopolska pesen” from Ovchartsi village won the 1st award. Art director<br />

of the group is Radka Lazarova. The program of the ensemble includes performances of children, female and male<br />

groups and few individual performers.<br />

Mummers group from Mogila village (Yambol), Group for presentation of traditions and customs from Tazha (Stara<br />

Zagora), Group for spring folklore from Yantra village (Gorna Oryahovitsa) and Folklore dance group “Condrisorul”<br />

(Bontida, Romania) presented themselves well and worthy.<br />

World famous Sala and Candelas will participate in the International Art<br />

Competition in Georgia<br />

One of the most interesting international art competitions from the chain of the European Association of Folklore<br />

Festivals – <strong>EAFF</strong> will be conducted in the period 23rd till 28th of October in Georgia. The festival will be attended<br />

by popular persons in world musical sector – famous Spanish conductor Moises Sala and marvelous flamenco dancer<br />

Daniel Candelas.<br />

Moises Sala is pianist, musician and<br />

creator of one of the best choirs in<br />

Spain – ‘The Gospel Viu Choir’. He<br />

teaches a class of musical creativity at<br />

the Department of the University of<br />

Barcelona and Girona. The workshops<br />

and trainings of Moisès Sala in the<br />

field of choral singing and conducting<br />

are among the most popular in the<br />

world. Participating in the joint singing<br />

under the guidance of this conductor,<br />

you will definitely feel the energy<br />

of an unforgettable and invaluable experience.<br />

The scenario of the common dance choreography of all participants in the contest is work of the talented flamenco<br />

dancer Daniel Candelas. He will be part of the jury commission during this art competition.<br />

Daniel Candelas started his creative career began 20 years ago, since then it has successfully toured in France, Romania,<br />

the USA, Holland, Australia. In France, Dani danced for RaffelPages, and in 2013 -2015, he was a soloist and director<br />

of the show “LaSiesta”. His choreography won a lot of awards in show business. Daniel Candelas is one of the few<br />

people in the world of flamenco dancers, able to hand over the emotions to the spectators, immersing them completely<br />

in the dance and forcing them to feel the passion of flamenco. The feelings experienced by the audience at the sight of<br />

dancers on the stage, do not leave anyone indifferent. The enormous energy emanating from the stage, captivated the<br />

audience from beginning to end of the show!<br />

At this point willingness for participation at the contest was declared by individual performers, choirs, dance ensembles<br />

and music group from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, South Africa, Israel, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Egypt, Nepal, Armenia,<br />

Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Ireland, Moldova,<br />

Malaysia, Philippines.<br />

The audience was involved in dances on the square of Ohrid<br />

VIIth International Festival “Ohrid Sunrise” was held from 22nd till 25th of September in Ohrid, where more than 300<br />

participants from Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Turkey took part, stated the director of the festival<br />

Zoran Strezovski.<br />

“After the parade the participants danced on the<br />

main square of Ohrid – “St. Kliment Ohridski”.<br />

Then the audience danced with the ensembles on<br />

Macedonian songs. Art directors of the group expressed<br />

their satisfaction from the festival and expessed<br />

desire to come back again next year.”, said<br />

Mr. Strezovski.<br />

He wished them all nice stay in Ohrid and awarded<br />

them with Diplomas for participation and gifts.<br />

The president of <strong>EAFF</strong> took part at Scientific<br />

conference<br />

The president of the European Association of<br />

Folklore – <strong>EAFF</strong>, Kaloyan Nikolov took part at<br />

the Sixth international scientific conference “Digital<br />

Presentation and Preservation of Cultural and<br />

Scientific Heritage”. The official opening ceremony<br />

was held in Museum of Bulgarian Revival<br />

and Constituent Assembly where Mr. Nikolov<br />

greeted all the participants and wished them productive<br />

work.<br />

45 paper works of 60 experts from Bulgaria, Hungary,<br />

Germany, Greece, China, Belarus, France,<br />

Romania, Lithuania and Czech Republic were<br />

presented during the conference on the main subject<br />

was the open access to digitized cultural and scientific heritage and the pursuing of sustainable policies for continuing<br />

its digital preservation and protection.<br />

Prof. Radoslav Pavlov, co-chair in the Program committee of conference emphasized to the fact that open access to<br />

cultural and scientific information is important priority of EU and despite of all difficulties it develops in Bulgaria with<br />

the assistance of Institutions.<br />

“It is inevitable future of scientific and cultural information. Digitization - this is equal to the access to information.<br />

New technologies enable ubiquitous access to cultural and scientific achievements” said prof. Pavlov.<br />

The Ministry of Education has prepared 13 recommendations of project “Open access to scientific publications and<br />

data”, reported in different European forums. According to co-chair prof. Peter Stanchev “they should became rules<br />

till 2018”.<br />

The principal organiser of the conference is the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, Bulgarian Academy of<br />

Sciences (IMI – BAS). The event was held from 26th till 28th of September with the support of Ministry of Education<br />

of Science and is under the patronage of UNESCO. Co-organizers are the Regional Museum of History, the P.R.<br />

Slaveykov Public Library (Veliko Tarnovo), the St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo and the<br />

Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo.<br />

Summer festival season on Budva has ended<br />

Lovely festival evenings in Budva put the end of the summer festival season. In the period from 22nd till 26th of September<br />

in the Montenegrin town was held the V International festival “Pearl of the sea”. More than 350 performers from<br />

Lithuania, Estonia, Croatia, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary took part at the event, informed Zoran Strezovski<br />

– the main organizer of the festival.<br />

“First festival evening was held at open stage on Rondo square – in the heart of Budva. Second concert and the official<br />

closing ceremony were held on the main pedestrian area “Budva Riviera” and Maltez Club where all the participants<br />

enjoyed the common party till the late night”, said Mr. Strezovski who warded the participants with Diplomas and<br />

gifts.<br />

“Art directors of ensembles showed their satisfaction with the organizing team of the festival and said they would come<br />

again. The participants visited the most beautiful cultural and natural attractions of Budva – they visited the coastal<br />

town of Kotor; There was a boat cruise to the “pearl” of Montenegro - Sveti Stefan island; they visited Dubrovnik in<br />

Croatia; they had time on the beach” added Zoran Strezovski.<br />

Flamenco show, fight with swords and a lot of folklore in<br />

a Spanish castle<br />

Main idea of International folklore festival in Catalonia which next edition will be held from 5th till 8th of February,<br />

2017 in Lloret de Mar (Costa Brava) Spain, is to unite the people from all the countries, cultures and mindset in a creative<br />

competition.<br />

International “Folk festival in Catalonia” is a contest with competitive character, where a Jury commission evaluates<br />

the performances of participants.<br />

“Folklore festival in Catalonia” is “bridge of meeting” with the cultures and traditions of folks from all over the world.<br />

The connecting link between all participants is the enthusiasm and the desire to preserve the unique cultural traditions<br />

inherited from our ancestors. Folklore festival opens its gates for friendship, contributes to creation of common peaceful<br />

existence of nations and cultures.<br />

Features of the contest are characterized by the location of its conduction – Medieval castle “Castell Medieval” in<br />

Spain. Despites of its renovation by current requirements, its atmosphere makes the participants to “dive” into the days<br />

of Knights on the field and rule of Kings.<br />

Organizers provide a professionally equipped scene in one of the castle halls where is assumed that before hundred<br />

years the royal amphitheater or dining room was.<br />

After the competition part, participants will be surprised by the organizers with flamenco show or real knight tournament<br />

in medieval style and also a classy royal dinner. The menu includes appetizers, soups with organic vegetables,<br />

chicken, baked potatoes, pork ribs, homemade bread, homemade wine and lemonade.<br />

Art groups which want to take part at this marvelous event which promote the cultures of nations in the world will be<br />

supported by Spanish authorities – including the Mayor of Tordera. Organizers are ready to address special invitations<br />

to potential sponsors of folklore ensembles and officials from their countries.<br />

International “Folk festival in Catalonia” is important platform for to strengthen the image of your country and to show<br />

the cultural specifics.<br />

600 performers from 7 countries took part at Adriatic<br />

festival “THE BEACHES OF ITALY”<br />

The biggest festival on Adriatic coast “Le spiagge d’Italia” was organized in the green Pearl of Adriatic - Riccione from<br />

22nd till 26th of September. The event hosted more than 600 artists from 7 countries - Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Morocco,<br />

Hungary, Slovakia and Poland and became triumph of folklore, friendship and solidarity. 18 groups performed in<br />

the center of Riccione and animating the end of September with colours of their costumes, talent and showing traditions<br />

of their own country.<br />

“The festival is a solid way to appreciate and keep alive the traditions and cultures<br />

of different peoples, a heritage that should not be lost, even if, in our everyday life<br />

folklore is often uncared for and considered almost an afterthought.” - said the<br />

Artistic Director of Festival Mrs Svetlana Rumenova.<br />

Special guest of the event was the Honorary Consul of Bulgaria for region Emiglia<br />

Romagna, ing. Franco Castellini since Bulgaria is the country with highest number<br />

of participating groups in all editions of the festival. And also this year half of<br />

participating groups came from Bulgaria - 9 in total. From the stage Mr. Castellini<br />

invited all guests to visit Bulgaria, joking ensuring that the Black Sea is not at all<br />

black.<br />

Councillor for Tourism of Riccione Mr Claudio Montanari opened officially the<br />

festival in the presence of all participating delegations on the stage after which the<br />

audience was immersed in a whirlwind of emotions, traditional dancing and highlevel<br />

performance.<br />

In day dedicated of extra activities all participants enjoyed togerther in degustation o typical italian cheese and wine,<br />

Zumba on the beach , sand scultures competition and of course - disco evening. Nobody missed to visit the most requested<br />

destination - San Marino and sunny days in Riccione allowed visit of more interesting places around.<br />

The great final of festival was reserved for Dance and Song ensemble “Pulanie” from Poland - whole group donated<br />

toys and school supplies to children earthquake victims in Amatrice-Italy.<br />

Tears of happiness, sea of smiles and immersion in the atmosphere of a spectacular celebration! That way exactly the<br />

International folklore choral contest “Golden voices of Montserrat” was conducted in March <strong>2016</strong> in Lloret de Mar,<br />

Costa Brava (Spain), informed the organizers.<br />

Overview film about the VII European Championship<br />

of Folklore “Euro folk” <strong>2016</strong> will present the essence<br />

of folklore musical, vocal and dance art.<br />

The event was organized and conducted by the European<br />

Association of Folklore Festivals – <strong>EAFF</strong> in the<br />

period 30th of June – 10th of July, <strong>2016</strong> in the towns of<br />

Nessebar, Sunny beach complex, St. Vlas and Pomorie.<br />

More than 1000 participants from Bulgaria, Russia, Armenia,<br />

Georgia, Turkey took part at the forum.<br />

This is the first event which was held a<br />

month after the approval of the Association as a member of UNESCO.<br />

The enormous event which Bulgarian National<br />

TV has supported as an official media partner<br />

was held under the motto “Folklore – the living<br />

memory of the humanity”. More than 2000 individual<br />

performers, musicians, vocal and dance groups from Bulgaria, Russia, Iran, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ireland<br />

showed the strength, the beauty, the harmony and the effects of folklore arts and creativity.<br />

The championship this year was held under the patronage of National Commission of Republic of Bulgaria for UNES-<br />

CO. Good cooperation with UNESCO shows high responsibility of current events, which is another excellent reference<br />

for the quality and meaning of goals – and especially to be part of the saviors of the world through the beauty of<br />

folklore.<br />

World Championship of Folklore “World Folk <strong>2016</strong>” was held from 18th till 28th of August in Burgas and Black<br />

sea resorts of Nessebar, Sunny beach, Obzor and Sveti Vlas.<br />

“Singing” Costa Brava invites you on a contest<br />

Vocal competition “Voices of Costa Brava” has great importance in the competition life of performers from different<br />

countries. Contest is hold twice per year in the Mediterranean coastal town of Lloret de Mar (Catalonia, Spain).<br />

Participants will compete in six categories: academic and jazz singing, rock and RnB; folklore singing; pop singing and<br />

musicals. Soloists, duets, trios and ensembles can perform famous and original performances.<br />

Official authorities and media attend the festival during the concerts. There are master classes and workshops for the<br />

art directors of the groups. The jury of the vocal contest “Voices of Costa Brava” consists experts from Spain, France,<br />

Russia, Ukraine and another countries.<br />

Mrs. Padilla is one of the big<br />

names in the field of world folklore<br />

arts. She visited the Old<br />

capital of Bulgaria invited by<br />

<strong>EAFF</strong> in cooperation with the<br />

Ministry of Culture of Bulgaria, Veliko Tarnovo Municipality and Nessebar Municipality.<br />

The senior lady was accompanied by Valko Lyubenov - Doctor Honoris Causa of folklore music and dances of Ansted<br />

University UK, producer and choreographer, Deputy Chairman of Committee 6 to the International Organization of<br />

Folk Art IOV World - UNESCO.<br />

Carmen D. Padilla gave a lecture in the St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo on the “Role of<br />

young people in preservation of cultural heritage” subject. The guest Mrs. Padilla introduced the activity and structure<br />

of IOV to the teachers, students and supporters of the preservation and promotion of folk traditions. She presented the<br />

highlights of the organization’s activities around the world and in particular the activity of young people in organizing<br />

youth festivals of arts and the support of many institutions and organizations.<br />

“Harmony, pence, mutual understanding and respect to the others culture! If the people who take the decisions look<br />

in our direction, they will find out that we can stop wars. When we serve to our community in order to preserve the<br />

traditions and our identity as a nation, we should think about how to be effective in the field of our work.” stated Mrs.<br />

Padilla during the lecture.<br />

During her stay in Veliko Tarnovo, Mrs. Padilla and Mr. Lyubenov attended a business meeting with Mr. Nikolov in<br />

the office of <strong>EAFF</strong> where they discussed the future co-activities of both organizations. Meeting with the Deputy mayor<br />

Snezhana Daneva and the Director of “Culture and Tourism” department Nelina Tsarova was conducted as well.<br />

After the official part of the meeting gifts were exchanged: Carmen Padilla received gifts – handmade ceramic replica<br />

of an archaeological artifact from excavations of the fortress Tsarevets, wrought in the „Samovodoska charshiya“ commercial<br />

street ; DVD discs with the movie “Veliko Tarnovo – in the heart of history” and “Tsarevgrad Tarnov - Sound<br />

and light” audio-visual show. Mrs. Padilla gifted the Municipality<br />

with a Filipino souvenir - carving depicting the sun, adopted<br />

as a symbol of happiness in the island country.<br />

Beside the business part, the program of Carmen D. Padilla<br />

included a flowers laying to the Monument of the founder of<br />

<strong>EAFF</strong> – Iliyan Nikolov; a sightseeing tour in Veliko Tarnovo<br />

and the spectacle “Sound and light”.<br />

Mrs. Padilla expressed her joy from what she has experienced during her visit in Old Bulgarian capital:<br />

“I am impressed from the old town, old commercial street and the Museum of Bulgarian Revival and Constituent Assembly.<br />

The “Sound and Light” spectacle was something unique. The town has all the aspects of culture combined with<br />

the modern life.”<br />

After her visit in Sofia and Veliko Tarnovo, Carmen Padilla continues her trip to Filip Kutev National School of Folklore<br />

International festival of choirs and orchestras in Porec (Istria, Croatia) is the beginnig of a row of festivals in Adriatic<br />

in 2017. From 19th till 23rd of April the largest peninsula of the Adriatic and the most popular holiday destination in<br />

Croatia will be stage for performances of choirs and orchestras from all over the world.<br />

The enrollment for festivals in Italy in 2017 has begun<br />

The applying for World Cup of Folklore and some of the festivals that will be held in 2017 in Italy has begun. The attractive<br />

and desirable tourist destination becomes even more popular during the prestigious music events.<br />

This year, under the auspices of the European Association of Folklore Festivals - <strong>EAFF</strong> many musical events that enable<br />

thousands of performers from around the world to show their national folklore heritage with songs, dances and<br />

music will be held.<br />

Participants will enrich the cultural diversity with their performances in music, choral, dance and folklore festivals in<br />

Rome, Jesolo, Verona (Lake Garda), Montecatini Terme (Tuscany), Rimini, Venice, Montecatini (Florence), Bracciano<br />

(Rome), Richnoe (Rimini) and others.<br />

Prof. Aleksander Turgaev from Russia became<br />

a bearer of Honorable sign of <strong>EAFF</strong><br />

Prof. Aleksandar Sergeevich Turgaev - rector of St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Art became a bearer of<br />

the Honorable Sign of the European Association of Folklore Festivals – <strong>EAFF</strong>. The president of <strong>EAFF</strong> Mr. Kaloyan<br />

Nikolov personally gifted the distinction to Mr Turgaev during the V International Contest of Folklore Vocal Art “Как<br />

на речке было на Фонтанке“, where he was member of the jury.<br />

The reason for the recognition is the contribution of Prof. Turgaev in preservation and development of intangible cultural<br />

heritage and traditional folk arts, according to the views of <strong>EAFF</strong>.<br />

The festival-contest was organized by St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Art with the support of Ministries<br />

of Culture in Russian Federation and Republic of Belarus. The event was held in the period 24th – 29th of October<br />

<strong>2016</strong>.<br />

XVI International Conservatory Week Festival<br />

President of European Association of Folklore Festivals – <strong>EAFF</strong>, Kaloyan Nikolov met the national artist of Russia, the<br />

composer known as the contemporary Shostakovich - Academician<br />

Sergey Slonimsky.<br />

The meeting between the two of them went in the XVI International<br />

Conservatory Week Festival during the “King Lear” opera<br />

performance, whose libretto is made by Sergey Slonimsky. He has<br />

written 33 symphonies, 8 operas, 2 ballets, symphonic, choral and<br />

chamber instrumental works, romances on poems by Pushkin, Lermontov<br />

and other famous Russian authors.<br />

His work is implemented and recorded on CDs in Russia and across<br />

the world, and his labor is recognized and appreciated with many<br />

prestigious titles and awards. XVI International Conservatory Week<br />

Festival was held in the period 22nd till 29th of October in St. Petersburg<br />

(Russia). Performers from Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania,<br />

USA, Canada, Japan, UK, France, Austria, Italy, Spain, Poland<br />

and Hungary took part in it.<br />

Colorful culture of the East was presented at the<br />

dance festival “UDBHAV UTSAV <strong>2016</strong>”<br />

From 12th till 16th of October in Indian town of Gwalior was held the 13th International Dance Festival “UDBHAV<br />

UTSAV <strong>2016</strong>”.<br />

“540 participants from Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan and India took part at the festival. The group from Sri Lanka won the<br />

grand award at the festival. The event was held in the historical town of Gwalior, a city of Palace, fort and temples.<br />

Each day the kids had the opportunity to visit different places of the city and every evening they enjoyed the parties and<br />

fun”, said the director of the festival, Mr. Deepak Tomar.<br />

14th edition of the International Dance Festival “UDBHAV UTSAV” will take place at 12th till 16th of October 2017.<br />

Organizers will provide tours in local landmarks and the Festival Committee covers the expenses for entry fees in historical<br />

President of the <strong>EAFF</strong> presented the Theory of<br />

development of folklore on the General Assembly<br />

of IOV WORLD<br />

Kaloyan Nikolov, the president of the European Association of Folklore Festivals – <strong>EAFF</strong>, presented his Theory of<br />

development of folklore art and introduced the activity of <strong>EAFF</strong> within the General Assembly of International Organization<br />

of Folk Art IOV WORLD. The host of the event was Italian town of Bergamo in the period 10th – 13th of<br />

November.<br />

In the presentation of the theory “Circle of folklore art”, Mr. Nikolov emphasized on the idea settled into his theory<br />

– the development of the connecting link between the traditions, education and science, the informational supply and<br />

service. It appears to be the “hot” link between the different levels of structures dealing with search, preservation and<br />

promotion of culture and art of different nations.<br />

“The identity and the difference from others is what makes us unique in our development. Keeping the folklore traditions<br />

alive /the Intangible Culture Heritage – ICH/, actually we preserve and support the latest technologies and most<br />

modern development of the societies and the planet as well. Understanding of the importance of this activity by the state<br />

institutions, responsible to the science and education in separate countries, will make the preservation of folklore and<br />

culture easier and more responsible”, stated the president of <strong>EAFF</strong>.<br />

On the General Assembly of IOV was elected the new leadership. The president of IOV WORLD became Ali Khalifa<br />

from Bahrain and Vice presidents: Emma Chen Hoefler from China and Hans Holz from Austria. General Secretary<br />

became Marcel Oelbrandt from Belgium.<br />

Honorable President is the current president of IOV WORLD – Mrs. Carmen Padilla from Philippines. The General Assembly<br />

was attended by members of National Commissions from all over the world, and the Regional Executive Secretaries<br />

from Asia, Western Europe, Southern Europe, Eastern Europe, South America, Africa, Australia, New Zeland<br />

and Oceania, Middle East and deputy chairman of the Youth organization of IOV – Minara Guliyeva. It was approved<br />

short-term strategy for development of the organization until 2020.<br />

Fifth festival in Orhid in honor of its patron St. Clement<br />

Choirs from Poland, Turkey, Romania and Macedonia<br />

took part at the V International Festival “Ohrid<br />

in December”. The event was held in the period<br />

– 8th – 11th of December in the Macedonian town.<br />

“Festival was dedicated to the patron of the town<br />

– St. Clement. The festival evening was held in the<br />

Center of Culture “Georgi Prlicev” in Ohrid. Choirs<br />

took part also on open stage.“, said the main organizer<br />

of the festival – Zoran Strezovski.<br />

He greeted the participants and briefed them on the<br />

importance of the feast of St. Clement. During their<br />

stay, groups had the opportunity to visit many of<br />

the cultural monuments in Ohrid, to have a boat trip<br />

to St. Naum monastery. Farewell party was organized for the participants in famous local disco.<br />

The dancer of the century was honored with traditional<br />

concert in Tbilisi<br />

On November 20, in the Tbilisi Concert Hall, was held<br />

the already traditional concert dedicated to the Dancer<br />

of the Century – Omar Mkheidze, Georgian Public Artist,<br />

Laureate of the National Prize, Knight of Georgian<br />

Culture and Georgian Choreography, dignified member<br />

of the Board of Elders of the Society of Chokhosnebi,<br />

Honorary Chairman of the Georgian Union of Choreographers,<br />

Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi and Batumi.<br />

The concert was organized by the Tbilisi Municipality and<br />

the Georgian Union of Choreographers. The concert was<br />

supported by the European Association of Folklore Festivals<br />

– <strong>EAFF</strong>, Georgian Choreography Newspaper, Georgian<br />

Veteran Choreographers’ Fund, National Center of<br />

Georgian Choreography and the Institute of Qualification<br />

and Professional Development of Teachers of Georgia.<br />

Children and youth choreographic ensembles from Tbilisi<br />

and other regions of Georgia participated in the concert,<br />

including already merited groups operating at the studios<br />

named after Omar Mkheidze.<br />

The two-part concert was conducted at the highest level.<br />

At the end of the concert, by the initiative of the Board of<br />

the Georgian Union of Choreographers, celebrated choreographers<br />

were awarded with the Order of Excellence<br />

of Georgian Choreography and Order of Intercessor of<br />

Georgian Choreography and participant groups received<br />

special prizes and diplomas signed by Omar Mkheidze.<br />

Ensemble from India won the Grand Prix in II International<br />

Folklore Festival “Keeping the traditions”(Russia)<br />

The 2nd International Folklore Festival – Contest “Keeping traditions” has been held during November 24-27, <strong>2016</strong><br />

in Moscow city – the heart of Russia. Over 300 folk performers from India, Malaysia, Yakutia, Buryatia, Tatarstan,<br />

Kalmykia, the Crimea, the Ryazan region, Moscow and Moscow oblast participated in the festival. The founder and<br />

organizer of the festival - the Culture Development Foundation of the Peoples of Siberia and the Far East “Northern<br />

Rainbow” made every effort to turn the festival into a real celebration of folklore. Folk talents from all over Russia<br />

and other countries met in Moscow to be acquainted with each other and share the culture of their countries and<br />

regions.<br />

Since its founding, the International folklore festival “Keeping Traditions” is held under the patronage of the European<br />

Association of Folklore Festivals (<strong>EAFF</strong>). At the Opening Ceremony of the festival the Welcoming Address by<br />

<strong>EAFF</strong> President Kaloyan Nikolov had been announced. Mr. Nikolov drew attention to the importance of promoting<br />

folk traditions, customs, and culture. Since in our rapidly developing world, they are the fundamental basis for the<br />

preservation of identity of nations, as well as the education of young generation in the spirit of tolerance and acceptance<br />

of cultural traditions and customs of different ethnic groups are one of the basic and important steps in maintaining<br />

harmony and balance in the relationship<br />

Grand Prix of the II International folklore festival<br />

“Keeping Traditions” (30000 rbl.) was<br />

awarded to the folklore ensemble “Shrusti<br />

Multicultural Centre”, India. The ensemble<br />

was also awarded an <strong>EAFF</strong> certificate 500<br />

euros to participate in the European Championship<br />

of Folklore. The ensemble, consisting of 24 charismatic dancers and musicians in colorful national costumes,<br />

by their fascinating and cheerful dance won the hearts of the audience. Audience Award deservedly received by Jeffri<br />

Rumli, singer from Malaysia, who performed the Malay folk song. The audience liked immediately Jeffri’s manner<br />

of performing and artistry.<br />

The Special Prize of opera singer Ayuna Bazarsadaeva “The best vocal” (10000 rbl.) and the title of laureate<br />

of the 1st grade went to Lidzhin Goryaev from Kalmykia. Dance ensemble “Buin Khan”<br />

representing Buryatia, became the laureate of the 1st grade and was awarded an<br />

<strong>EAFF</strong> Certificate 500 euros. Ensemble of guslars “Veselyi perezvon”<br />

(Moscow) became the laureate of the 1st grade and was<br />

awarded an <strong>EAFF</strong> Certificate 300 euros. Besides,<br />

Folklore Dance Group “Nestini” – the new<br />

champion in the World ranking list of folklore<br />

for <strong>2016</strong>!<br />

Folklore dance group “Nestini” at University of Forestry, Sofia (Bulgaria) is leader in the World ranking list of folklore<br />

for <strong>2016</strong>. Except that they won the Grand prize in the first edition of World Cup of Folklore and the Grand Prix in the<br />

VI World Championship of Folklore “World Folk” <strong>2016</strong>, the worthy performance of the group, led by Iliyan Yordanov<br />

and Mariya Yordanova brought them enough points – 1570 in total, which help them to became the leader in the rating<br />

this year.<br />

Second place in the list – with 935 points is the Folklore trio “Avliga” from Dupnitsa (Bulgaria). Their art director<br />

is Rayna Hristova. Since the creation of the trio in 2012 – Diana Gradevska, Ivanka Bozhilova, Rayna<br />

Hristova and their accompanist – accordion player Ivan Naumov have taken<br />

part in all the festivals<br />
