Last Day Arrangements
As we draw near to the end of term I wanted to take this opportunity to
thank you for your support. The academy has made progress in many
areas and we continue to improve and build on our successes,
improving the quality of teaching and learning to ensure the best
outcomes for our students. There has been a lot to celebrate since
September and the students have been a credit to you and our
academy.
Following staff and student consultation the academy will move to a
single lunch time in January 2017. Whole-school lunchtime will give
students the opportunity to attend a range of lunchtime activities.
We will finish for the Christmas holiday at 12:30pm on Thursday 22 nd
December. Students who are entitled to a Free School Meal and those
students who would like to pre order a meal can collect a grab bag
from the catering team at 12:30pm on their way out of the academy.
The yellow school bus has been advised of the academy finish time and
will depart promptly at 12:40pm.
The academy will reopen on 9 th January 2017. Students are expected to
be in the academy by 8:40am however they are welcome to arrive
from 8:00am to take advantage of the breakfast club. Students are
expected to be in form by 8:45am.
Once again thank you for your support and I wish you a very happy
Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.
Yours sincerely
Mr P Mellen
Executive Principal

A Level Drama Performance at Connell College
Message from LLS;
On Tuesday I took my Year 11 drama group on a trip to Connell College, to watch an A
Level performance called ‘Women through the Ages’. The piece challenged
preconceptions of the female stereotype. The students involved had a fantastic time and
are looking forward to starting their final pieces for their GCSE in January.

Music Intervention Day
Message from ZPA;
On Wednesday my year 11’s took part in a drop down Intervention Day in preparation for their
Music GCSE exam. Students had several hours of intensive music theory learning about the set
works that they need to study for their Unit 3 exam coming up in the summer. We were lucky to
have 2 PhD students from The University of Manchester visit us to deliver these lessons and I want to
take this opportunity to thank them for all their hard work and preparation. It was a fantastic
opportunity for students to meet pupils from higher education who have taken music further and
made a career out of it. We even had chance to enjoy our Christmas dinner with them too!

PE News
Message from AGI;
On Monday day 12th December the KS4 girls badminton team took part in the Manchester
Schools' final at Whalley Range. The girls played some amazing badminton, showing true grit and
determination through some tough matches. All 3 teams involved finished level on games won so
a count back of points scored was done to determine final results. Cedar Mount finished second
and bagged themselves fantastic silver medals. They are now the second best girls’ team in
Manchester!
Well done to the girls involved - Aaminah, Aliza, Jasmine and Iqra.
