The girls’ mother died on September 1, 2016. Since then, their father, who is HIV positive along with their very
elderly grandmother are having a very difficult time taking care of them. They were both hungry, sick and still
wearing the dresses from their moms funeral when we found them. The grave was still fresh on the property
and the girls kept asking where their mother was. In fact, they had all the symptoms of traumatization.
This little guy, Caleb Odhiambo was brought to our clinic in
August 2014 by his grandmother. He had a such a massive
hernia that he could hardly walk. Dr. Nathan Novotny did
his surgery. They came from far so they couldn't make it
back.
Our driver Steven Odhiambo (Odhis) took him and his
grandmother to their home to spend the night. The grandmother
had gone back the next day to get something and
never came back. She had abandoned him there at
Odhis'. Odhis has called many times after that but and she
kept saying she "was coming." Then, she stopped picking
up her phone. He went to Sirare to look for her but the
people in the village said she had moved.
So, he's lived with Odhis but knows nothing else about the
boy. I could not, for the life of me, get this child to smile. I
could hardly have him look at me.
Will begin Nursery class in the January

Their mother is a 32 year old widow. She got married when she was 20 while studying in Form 2. She later
had her 2 girls and her husband died in an accident. At that point, her husband’s family disowned her and
took all her things. She was sent back to live with her family. An orphan herself, she has just gone from
place to place struggling to make ends meet. A “Good Samaritan” was keeping her kids while she tried
to go back to school to make a life for her and her girls but she could no longer do it. By taking her kids into
BHOG, she is able to go back to school in January and continue in Form 3.
The boy is a partial orphan, the father died after separating with the mother in 2014 March. The mother was
born normally but at age 10 she was attacked with Polio that deformed her the way she is now. The husband
did not pay dowry and due to Kurian traditions, the family members sent her away with the children.
She is hosted in her younger brother's home with three children and she is given one room to stay in together
with her children.
Mary Moraa - 8 yrs
Mary is a total orphan. She is the second born of a
family of three. She is in pre-unit.
The father died and he was the only son, the mother
died in September and the children were left with no
one. So some of the neighbors divided them amongst
themselves. The elder sister can not go to school
since no one can send her to school.
They have nothing to hang on!!!

Francisca is part of our home based care program and is doing well. We have been in touch with her mother
frequently and she has no problem with her character. She is jovial and a very active girl. She attended school
throughout without missing even one day; this shows that she is doing well even health wise.
Samson & Eunice are albino children in home based care. They live in
constant danger as it is believed my the witch doctors that certain body
parts have magical powers and other believe they are cursed and bring bad
luck. But these 2 children are precious, loving and kind.
It is believed that Eunice may be developing some eye sight issues and will
be examined early next year.
We maintain a close watch to
keep these 2 safe!
