exercise 1
For this excercise we had to use the Pen tool to trace and
replicate the letter “C”. This exercise thought us how to use
the Pen tool in Adobe Illustrator, and therefore the much
needed lesson in basic shape drawing in the program.
Step 1: Use the pen tool to trace the two C letter shapes.
Step 2: Recreate the Funky C and Chunky C letters without tracing
over the sample.
Project 1
In this project we were told to design a mask.
The mask I created was more based on the cartoon and
grafitti style. Therefore i created a monster and tried gettin
vibrant colors that would make it pop-out.
We first started out sketching out 5 different masks on paper
and then choosing the best one and scaning it in to the pc.
With the scanned mask we had to trace over it with the pen
tool and vectorize it.
exercise 2
This was an exercise in Adobe Illustrator using the Prime
Point Placement method to nicely create the shape without
rough edges and corners.
I traced a oral scroll image using the pen tool and then
cloned and reflected the scroll to create a pattern. I also
used a gradient to create the background.
Project 2
For this project we had to find a picture or two and trace it
with the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator and changing it
completely from the original picture.
5
The main concept behind the project was to trace images
and make it not look like the original.
With mine I chose to do a bear and place them in a car
that I traced as well, making it to a weird illusion.
exercise 3
The purpose of this exercise was for us to practice the Clockwork
Method and get fimiliar with that work style.
For the exercise we had to trace a monkey head using the
Clockwork Method. I took it a little bit further and added a body
for the monkey head and a tree for it to hang from.
flagler College
Established 1986
Project 3
For this project we had to design a T-shirt that could
potentially be sold in the legacy story here at school, as a
Flagler College Gear. We had to use the Flagler College logo
in the design. My personal favorite would be the one with
the lion wearing the sunglasses.
7
We had to sketch 5 different designs and then choose the
best 2 out of the five and then vectorize. We also had to
trace a shirt of our choice to put the design on.
exercise 4
For this excercise we had to use the Pen tool in Adobe Photoshop
to create selection around an object as a path. This path would than
make it simple to cut around the object.
With using the pen tool in Photoshop, I discovered that it is not easy
to adjust your handle bars once you leave the point.
Project 4
I chose the phrase “When in Doubt, Travel!” for this project.
We had to find a quote or hprase of atleast 16 characters
long and had to make the lettering out of the negative
space left behind when using different objects that had
something tho relate to the frase.
9
I chose to use objects, like yachts, passport, sunglasses, all
object that relate to travel.
exercise 5
Part 1: Hawaii postcard
For this first part I had to recreate a sample of the Hawaii
postcard in Adobe Photoshop. The basic task for this exercise
was for me to make selections and make cut out.
Part 2: My Postcard
I chose to do a postcard of my Island Hometown, using the
same concept and ideas the Hawaiien one. Layers, and
composition was the key for this assignment.
Project 5
For this project we had to make a surrealistic composition,
with 6 different pictures, either from online or your own
camera. No illustration was suppposed to be counted in the
six images. Before making the composition, you had to
research a surreal artist and base our composition of off
his style and work, but you were not allowed to use any
direct aspect and parts of the artist.
exercise 6
The purpose of this exercise was to practice working with Adobe
Illustrator smart objects in Photoshop as well as applying texture
to text. The phrase “Retro Toyz” we had to apply a texture on
top of it. As you can see it looks a little rustic.
I had recreated this image identical to the example one we were
given in the intstruction.
Call
Wild
The Call of the Wild is a short
adventure novel by Jack London
published in 1903 and set in
Yukon, Canada during the 1890s
Klondike Gold Rush, when strong
sled dogs were in high demand.
The central character of the
novel is a dog named Buck.
The story opens at a ranch in Santa
Clara Valley, California, when Buck
is stolen from his home and sold into
service
For our last project we were given a list of books and had to
choose leader our in the favorite wild. one, we then had to re-design the book
cover for the book. I chose to book “Call of the Wild”, by
Jack London, as my my project book.
For the Project we had to use 7 different images, each from
different eras in history to make the cover.
This project proved to be harder than i anticipated, and
brought on quite a few challanges with finding pictures from
the different eras.

This shows a very interesting
example of text manipulation
in Adobe Illustrator, using the
pen tool and the gradient tool.
An example of masking a patern
A great example of the CRAP
principles and how to put text in
your designs.
