Deputy Head’s Message By Nicholas Simms Dear Parents and Carers, There have been so many highlights for me this term, it is difficult to know where to start. I am fortunate to get to see so many young people excel at things both inside and outside the classroom, that it is honour to work at PRS. The Year 10 students who are Sports Leaders embody all that PRS stands for: Enjoy and Achieve. They support younger children at other schools to develop a passion for life-long sport and act as role models for them in the way that the Team GB Olympians did in the summer. The Year 9 Debating event that took place on 12 December saw students from different English classes debating topics as diverse as Abolishing the Monarchy to Use of Animals for Drug Testing. The students did superbly and, as I told them all, to stand up in front of 170 of their peers and talk is very difficult. I was hugely proud and choosing winners was difficult! Back in November we marked Remembrance Day as a whole school for the first time. I understand that this is a sensitive issue for some, and I respect that this observance is not to everyone’s taste, but I am keen that young people today should remember sacrifices that others have made in the past to secure a better life for us today. 6 th Form Students lead assemblies with some moving readings and we observed a two minute silence. The key for me is the seriousness with which the students present took the event, and I was very proud of them. The Artist of The Week is a great feature, and highlights the amazing talent we have at school. Despite being a Science Teacher and having art skills limited to dot-joining and painting by numbers, I look forward to seeing the artwork on Twitter and seeing the art around school and can at least appreciate the talent of others! Our 6 th formers continue to be a source of pride for the staff and role models for younger students and help out at different events in school in a quiet but effective way. Additionally the work they do for the Interact Group is brilliant and allows them chance to invest back in the community. At the start of the year we welcomed the new Y7s to our community and they have certainly taken to PRs well! I was gutted not to be able to join them for the day at Longridge, but I know they had a wonderful Team Building day, releasing their inner Bear Grylls! I could go on, but you’ll be pleased to know I am going to stop there. It only remains for me to say that I hope you and your families have a restful and enjoyable Christmas Holiday. Whatever your faith or belief, Christmas is a time for family and friendship and a time for giving; not just giving presents to each other but giving love and peace and even (students, this is directed at YOU) giving time to help around the house! Students: do not forget how much hard work Christmas is for adults; please make sure you set aside some time each day to help the grown-ups around the house! Best wishes Mr N. SCHOOL UNIFORM – Princes Risborough School - 2016/2017 We believe that our students should look smart and professional. They will take pride in their appearance and in their school. Wearing of the uniform will be enforced and we ask parents for their complete support. The list below is intended to help parents/carers know what is permitted in school and what is not. If ever parents/carers are in any doubt about items relating to the school dress policy – please telephone and clarify the query before purchasing. Black tailored trousers – no ‘low slung’ trousers, no skinny, skin tight, or ‘drain pipe’ trousers, no turn ups, no denim. Plain black belt – no oversize buckles. White shirt, either long or short sleeved. Neck size to allow top button to be done up comfortably - no button down collars. PRS clip on tie. Black socks. Black shoes – no boots, trainers, suede or canvas shoes. Plain white ‘T’ shirt under shirt (optional). Black PRS jumper with school logo. The jumper is optional but it MUST come from the uniform supplier. Girls’ Uniform Black single breasted girls’ blazer with PRS badge on breast pocket. Black tailored trousers – no ‘low slung’ trousers, no exposed zips or rows of buttons, no skinny, skin tight, ‘drain pipe’ or overly wide trousers, no turn ups, no denim. Black knee length skirt either straight or A-line, fully pleated/ half pleated – tube skirts are not acceptable. Slits in skirts must be short and to the back or side. White blouse, either long or short sleeved, which must button up to the collar. PRS clip on tie. Black socks with trousers, black tights or short white socks with skirts – no trainer liners. Black shoes with a maximum heel height of 4cm – no boots, trainers, ‘kitten’ heels, suede or canvas shoes. For protection, shoes should cover the top of the foot. Plain white ‘T’ shirt under shirt (optional). Black PRS jumper with school logo. The jumper is optional but it MUST come from the uniform supplier. Summer Uniform – when allowed White PRS polo shirt replaces shirt, tie and blazer. Plain white ‘T’ shirt under shirt (optional). Outer Garment No outer garments such as ‘hoodies’ should be worn at any time of the year. When the weather is cold or wet, a plain, dark suitable waterproof coat should be worn. PE Uniform Black PE shorts*. Green and black socks, knee high for outdoors. White ankle high for indoors.* Green and black PE polo shirt with embroidered school badge* - only available from PMG and BSP. Green and black Rugby shirt with embroidered school badge* (optional for girls) – only available from PMG and BSP. Green and black PE track jacket with embroidered school badge – only available from PMG and BSP. Black PE track pants with embroidered school badge – only available from PMG and BSP. Green and black wet weather jacket with embroidered school badge (optional) – only available from PMG and BSP. Hair, make up and jewellery Dress Code Hair should be a presentable style avoiding extremes of fashion or colour. Hair that is dyed or highlighted must look ‘natural’. Hair extensions must be natural in colour. No hair ‘wraps’. Long hair must be tied back (this is for safety reasons in practical lessons and to encourage eye contact in other lessons). Hair bands/scrunchies must be plain black or green. No other hair decoration is allowed. Religious headwear must be plain black or white. Makeup is not allowed for students in Yr7-9. Students in Yr10-11 may wear subtle makeup. Nail extensions and coloured nail polish are not allowed. Clear nail polish may be worn. Only one small plain stud allowed in the lobe of each ear. No other piercings allowed. No jewellery other than a wrist watch. For safety and security no other jewellery should be worn.
