Ella Hatfield ….continued The message which Ella gave the students in her presentation was nothing new as it is at the heart of everything we do but it was important for the students to hear it from an independent source, namely that no dreams are too big for Princes Risborough School students, who can aspire to be anything that they want, but that such dreams must be accompanied by hard work and that Oxford, Cambridge and other Russell Group universities are far more rewarding of hard work and dedication than they are of privilege and tradition. Interesting Facts about the: The university was founded in 1209 and is the world’s third eldest surviving university. The University of Cambridge has over 100 libraries containing manuscripts and early editions from Isaac Newton, Shakespeare and AA Milne. Ellie introducing her presentation There are 31 colleges, in addition to being admitted to the university itself the Student must also be admitted to one of the colleges. The oldest college is Peterhouse,, it was founded in 1284. Three of the colleges only accept women: Lucy Cavandiish, Newnham and Murray Edwards. It is to be hoped that some of the students in the audience will be inspired as Ella herself was a couple of years ago. Only Ella can claim to be the first of our students to take up an Oxbridge place, but we can be similarly certain that she will not be our last. Speaking to interested 6th Formers and Year 11’s 96 affiliates of the University of Cambridge have been awarded the Nobel Prize since 1904—the most of any institution in the world. The 3 terms, which is known in other universities as semester, are named Michaelmas (autumn - October to December), Lent (late winter- January to March) and Easter (spring - April to June).
