Tabea Debus - Recorders “Tabea Debus’s spirited, virtuosic and musically compelling playing is immediately obvious, as is her evident sense of humour…” Andrew Benson-Wilson, Early Music Review “Tabea Debus is one of the most exciting young musicians in the early music world... she’s challenging perceptions of the instrument” Classic FM Tabea Debus, whose playing has been described as an “absolute delight, with a beautiful sense of musical line and phrasing, wearing her obvious virtuosity light”, recently graduated as a Meaker Fellow from the Royal Academy of Music in 2016. As well as being a CMF Artist, Tabea was selected as St John’s Smith Square Young Artist in 2015/16 and won first prizes at the 2nd International hülsta woodwinds competition (2011), the 8th International Johann Heinrich Schmelzer - Competition (2014) and received the runner-up prize in The Arts Club – Sir Karl Jenkins Music Award in association with Classic FM. Tabea had her first recorder lessons with Gudula Rosa at the Westfälische Schule für Musik, Münster. Since then she has received many scholarships, including awards from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes. Performances have taken her to renowned concert halls such as the Konzerthaus Vienna, the Tonhalle Zürich and the Wigmore Hall as well as in Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. She has recently appeared on BBC Radio 3 In Tune and the BBC Radio 3 Early Music Show.
